Another *BIG PAYDAY* at the Ocean Picture Stone Quarry!

- Опубліковано 21 сер 2021
- Hard to keep up with the demand for this stone, so back to the BC Ocean Picture Stone quarry for another load of premium gem quality rock. Had a request from one lapidary stone for a nice big chunk of nothing but blue. So I had a perfect stone ready for a situation like that, and I recovered that stone. Plush took another big slab off the main premium seam. We are also now starting to sell at rock hound tailgate sales, and lapidary shows for rock collectors. But most of our sales still come through our website at: www.danhurdprospecting.com

Dan had some pendants on his website awhile back and I was outbid by seconds. I was so disappointed. I emailed Dan and he was nice enough to make another one for me. It's so much more beautiful in person. Thanks again Dan. Am thinking of getting one of the small bags of pieces to tumble. Keep up the great videos.
I tumble a lot of the leftover remains from my lapidary adventures. My opinion for best results is: if you have a choice while ordering, get stones that have no host rock, have as little as possible, or you can make a request in your order for denser host rock. The brown host rock is substantially softer than the rest of the material, but, I have noticed that it does vary in quality each time i get a new order. Sometimes the host rock is a bit too porous, so it wears away much faster and unevenly when tumbled and is difficult to get an acceptable polish. Once in a while the host rock is less porous and much denser, so even though it still wears away much faster while tumbling, I think you can end up with unique shapes and and a satisfactory polish. Everyone has a different style, and that's rad. It is also entirely possible that I'm oddly picky about the material i carve and tumble. I dunno. That's my rambling 2 cents that you never asked for. Take care
Love your high energy Dan. You are fun to watch
Dan always gets me nervous when he’s lifting them large rocks lol, to think he only had heart surgery last year.. some great looking stone though, beautiful colours 👍🏻😎
I think he was super fit before the surgery, I have some health problems that floor most people and yet because I was fit and strong before it started I can still do some pretty amazing things considering..yes be a little worried but not too much...he's good
Dont fret, hes tougher'n a bootheel. And smart about not killin himself.
No better way to start a Sunday morning than getting some learning on with Dan! Thanks for the excellent content!!!
The country around your rock hunting area is so beautiful . Watching your video makes my day . I really wish I could see that area .
Also, your ocean picture jasper has a striking similarity to Aquaprase. It’s a new discovery out of Namibia Africa. They thought it was chrysoprase but it turned out to be an entirely new mineral. Check it out Dan. Keep up the great work!
Wow amazing video mind blowing super excited video keep it up My friend
Another perfect wake up video. With all in the world going on we can def use more of these vids. You are a breeze of hope in a nasty storm. Thank you you do more for people than you realize!!!!
Following from the Gold Coast Queensland Australia ☀ ☀
Nothing better then a good feather and wedge reveal, nice work Dan that is some awesome material
WE SURE DO!!!! I LOVE DAN HURDS INFORMATIVE AND ADVENTURESOME VIDEOS! AND I OWN SOME BEAUTIFUL SPECIMENS OF OCEAN PICTURE STONE BECAUSE OF HIM. WONDERFUL GUY!
Mother nature is good aint she !! The earth has such beautifull stone and you are soo lucky to spend your days digging in the ground,. Im very jealous ! 😂 much love from the english countryside. 😊
Takes me back to gem hunting with my Grandad back in the late 70's and 80's before they stopped you walking into sites around the UK. RIP Grandad (1986)
Glad to see you're recovery is coming along well, beard especially!
as someone who used to cut quartz out of bedrock, and agate, i can not stress to you enough how amazing just a simple "outdoor" broom is... a yard broom. sweeping all the dust and debris out the way you find so much more that you can miss.
The ocean picture stone looks beautiful. Drink water. God bless, and have a great day.
Bless u Dan take it easy with the heavy one . Beautiful pieces Dan Bless u n the Family .... 😇
That is such a beautiful rock, absolutely amazing! I would give anything to find ANY type of precious stones/rocks here in my locality….but the closest thing we have to rock is cactus. I’m in northwest Florida, so it’s nothing but sand and tourists! Lol
Thank you for sharing your amazing life with us brother Dan, your character is so refreshing!
God bless you my brother!
Ocean Picture Stones are amazing👌🏻⛏🏴
Thanks to you and Pioneer Pauly, I now have a new hobby for me and my son, gold hunting, panning, digging and soon to be highbanking. I've found quite a bit of gold and copper ore and a few lil pieces of placer in my river, including a one 6.2 gram nugget, the other pieces were only specs. I've never seen anything like these beautiful ocean picture stones here in Cape Breton. The gold here is pretty rare compared to where you guys are, but it's still an awesome pastime while trout fishing. I hope you and Pauly unearth a new world record gold nugget some day soon, you both deserve it. Thanks again for all the great videos. I bookmarked your website, probably gonna put in an order soon of paydirt and a few other great items you have. Thanks again.
What a beautiful color blue.
Thanks for the new adventure! Stay safe.
could be Chrysoprase
That last example of jewellery had an amazing specimen! It looked exactly like a wave crashing, spray and all! Beautiful!
Proud of you Dan. You have a big heart and an infectious happiness I wish more people had. May God bless your hunt for buried treasure:)
Chrysoprase is what the translucent green stone is called. It ranges from yellowish green to green. I think 🤔 lol. The ocean picture stone is so beautiful and it's amazing how much they really do resemble an ocean scene right down to the white caps on the waves in some of them.
Cool video Dan lovely Stone 😍keep the great videos coming friend from Scotland 👍
Wonderful video, Dan! Love the trips to the BC Ocean Picture Stone quarry. It’s always so neat to see the inside of those rocks for the first time EVER! Laughed at your part about the comments regarding that large “yard piece” rock… 😂
Well Dan I guess it is safe to say that you have made a wonderful recovery ! As always enjoyed your video. You keep making them and we will keep watching !!
Thank you sir !
Dan please be careful lifting those bolders. I must say it again and again that that Ocean Picture stone is beyond beautiful. Even the lesser quality is beautiful. My birthday was the 16th and I was planning on buying a piece but due to other financial obligations had to pass but hopefully I can in the near future.
Thank you
Just fantastic Dan and that blue is just amazing! Take care and be safe. All the very best Graham🇬🇧🇬🇧
Brother, you earned my subscription a few months ago. I really enjoy your content and your positive attitude. Your videos always make me smile. Keep it up and hope you doing well.
Dear Dan Hurd: Try this out.
1. Get yourself some PVC pipes from home depot or something
2. Saw them to the length of each rungs.
3. Saw them along the length to leave enough room to fit in around each rungs.
4. Tape them closed.
You got yourself a home made conveyor belt. When you crank your jack, it will just roll over the pvc tubing and in the truck it goes. ;) Cheers
Dont thank me, thank the Egyptians and also, if you do use it. I'll be expecting to see a little "Dancing like an Egyptian" move. :)
Just a safety hint. When winching a load into the bed of your truck like that you should use the anchor points at the front of the box near the cab and a longer strap so the strap is a deep V rather than straight across. The loads on the strap and the anchor points will be greatly reduced this way.
I Absolutely love rock hounding
I have a friend in Kettle Falls wa. Who sells rock
minerals for a living. He told me this material was “panned out”. Nice to see. Also your honesty about the going price is appreciated
Cheers
Beautiful beautiful !
“I must take more water” 😋🤪
Dan, get your hand trolley in the truck for the next visit. You can use it to move your tools and generator in and out as well as the buckets of rock and large rocks.
Get one with large puncture proof tires.
Mark from Melbourne Australia
Even more stuff to take with me? I'll need a trailer soon.
Love the pendants ! Wow !
Great harvest Dan..
Good to see you starting to get your strength back. All the best. 😁👍
Always enjoy your full episodes.
The shorts add a little mystic to the upcoming !
Wow ....definitely a good dayat the quarry.😍😍😍
Great video Dan. Great pay cheque too !
When trying to break of big chunks if you cut it with a diamond blade saw at the bottom (5 inches in) it would break off all the way to the bottom. Great video and harvest thanks for sharing see won the next one👍🏻👊🏻
Hope your heart is doing good Dan. Praying for you.
Thanks Dan another amazing video, I love watching the videos about this mine. Thank you
Also it's nice to see the beard coming back. I feel it's necessary to look the part for true success.
Great work Dan.
Truly fantastic picture stone
Those are beautiful!
Just WOW!!!
It's so great to see you're doing well after the surgery. Being able to lift those really big pieces just shows it on its own, not to mention the beard growth as well
just found this channel and subscribed. Living down here in GA has reignited my rockhounding.
Dan, your videos are honestly an inspiration to me
Awesome video Dan. I LOVE THAT ROCK! 😍 🐊
You need a 16inch gas powered wet/dry saw used to cut concrete expansion joints. You could box out a 6 inch deep cut around the stone before trying to break it off. It's dusty without water.
Ohhhh to have a garden rock like that! 🤩
STUNNING!!!!!!
I just love watching your videos
Such beautiful fun stone to look at. And a relaxing place to work.
The music is sometimes a bit more energetic than the more enjoyable easygoing mood of the video. Would've liked to hear the cracking from the hammer and wedges.
Awesome sir. Can’t wait to what’s next.
I'm definitely buying some stones and jewelry. That was awesome. I'd love to mine places like you!
Enjoyed watching your video nice beautiful looking.🙂
Love this stuff!! So beautiful!!
Man that is some nice rock. Love watching you dig Dan :)
Dan as a avid rick hound and one who just enjoys working with stones and crystals and the lower end of gem type quality .. I would gladly volunteer days of just being muscle and moving materials for you of all that type of work from your mines and claims.
Just to work with the stuff..learn knowledge from you on what you know and just to be in experience of handling and seeing that beautiful stuff..
That and I absolutely love being out in nature. I prefer it over people. I could separate myself from society for months on end and not think of returning or missing anything..lol
I always wanted to visit up in Canada as well.. but unfortunately I a at least for now stuck here in California.. maybe one day..
Love the content..love all the beautiful stones amd materials you show us.. I am envious. Lol
but seriously ..if I was to vacation up that way..I would volunteer to help move and muscle material for you.. why not..free labor and it helps you and your family out and I get to see and handle that stuff..which too me is like finding dinosaur fossils..and yes i have some i found..
thank you for the video the pics at the end were great
Always enjoy your videos! Stay safe.
I like your office Dan.
Great video Dan! I bought a beautiful slab of Ocean Picture stone earlier this summer. I like the raw rock better than the jewelry.
Nice finds !
Cool. Good job
About the green translucent chalcedony, I've found similar indistinguishable rocks before around a few of my claims and its always interesting to think about what they could be. I'm certainly no geology specialist but from things I've seen around interior BC before my best guess would be that it's either a strange variety of green agate or perhaps a subspecies of green chalcedony. Thinking about how odd the rock is around the area to be able to host ocean picture stone it wouldn't be too far out of reach to assume that its something just as uncommon. I've personally uncovered a few samples before of rocks that I've never seen before or found any information on, so that's always a possibility! Granted, the likelihood is fairly low and the answer that'd make most sense is just green chalcedony, but if the properties are different to that of samples found before you may be on to something. Awesome video :)
Geologist here; if it’s a chalcedony it’s most likely a prasiolite.
Not familiar with the gem industry but I’d personally just call it hydrothermally altered quartz.
The video showed it looked more like an amphibolite to me though. Wasn’t up close so I’m going off his description.
Welcome to Texas weather 🌡️
i did enjoy it Dan thanks
Amazing!
Hey Dan they have this NEW invention thing...I think it's called a hand dolly or hand cart...with wheels.
(insert sarcasm emoticon)
Makes easier work for carting large rocks and buckets back to the truck.
Well done though, who need a gym when you have a mine.
I was kinda surprised as to how close you are. When I think gold and gemstones. I dont think Alberta and Eastern B.C. Shows how much I know. Still envious. Not just the treasure but the adventure of going about getting that treasure.
Good job.
Very cool!
Yeah Dan you go bro $$$$
well dan some day we are going to have to get together so I can show you how to load that truck that heavy stone using to inch straps youll be amazed at how easy my system is to loading large stone on a skid.i know you would love it.for what you are trying to do. more material less work.and not as hard on you. beautiful picture stone . thank you for sharing
That is some beautiful stone
good job on the editing!
I recommend dr dans gold and gem persriptions I’ve been taking them for a while now. I’m not rich yet but I feel like a true Canadian miner!!!! I sooooooo wish Florida had something besides old people and sand
When dan had his wedges in and was beating on them al I could think was , that's a dan hurd xylophone !!!! 😆 🤣
@dan hurd the premium I got from your website is absolutely gorgeous! I cant bring myself to cab it... Im going to have to get more from you so I can cut it up, and still hace a nice one for the mantle
You have the best job ever I wish I could do it to I'm stuck in retail and not enjoying life 😂
Pretty!
Wow!
Pump for the algorithm and a thumbs up for the awesome show! 👍 Can't get enough of that Dana blue. 💙😎💪♻️🤳
I feel your pain that is the same way I pull my small old tractors in to the back of my 1 tone drw it works good but is slow at times I just haven't installed my wench yet it has ben 3 years now lol
this is going, to be another great video
This growing to be the best channel on the tube
That is some beautiful opal
Hi Dan, your ocean picture stone is remarkable material. I do have a querie in regard to the feather & wedges, if you put a line of f&w horizontally as well as vertically do you think the rock might fracture along both lines or are there to many natural fractures in the rock for this to work. I have only got into the hobby in the last few years, so no experience in rock mining and I was just watching and thinking how great it would be to get a large roughly square or rectangular slab of that material.
Another very interesting video with such great material and your enthusiasm is infectious (in a good way). Keep Safe & Keep Rockin
Translucent green chalcedony might be Chrome Chalcedony. In Zimbabwe, it's evidently called Mtorolite; in Bolivia, Chiquitanita.
Mostly I'm seeing it just called Green chrysoprase though.
Have you ever thought about making a globe with some of that beautiful picture stone
Dan Hurd Have you reconsidered one of the 20 volt battery powered pressure washers pretty sure they make one that you can tap into water for about anywhere and it'll pull it into the gun and Fire the thing you had a little bit of hose that you could run to a stream something just a thought.
My chip bag arrived in Scotland this week 😁👌
