Even OSRS is not as good as RuneScape was leading up to 2010. RS peaked in 2008-2010, IMO. I know free trade removal absolutely sucked, but PvP, clanning, & overall health of the game was peaked. When they did those graphical updates & made armor look like power ranger outfits, that's when it started to fall off. EoC was the nail in the coffin. Truly despicable what they did.

Tbh if EOC didn’t ruin runescape, we wouldn’t have the same kind of community engagement we have now with OSRS. So in a way, it was a blessing in disguise. Cause if EOC didn’t make you quit, the olds devs ignorance would’ve.
But part of the game died, everybody used to know runescape back in the day. I remember that there was a vote for free tradings & wilderness and it got more then 1 million votes. A lot of people really did never look back..
Pre EOC is the best version and the game had so much more populararity back in that time, many people quited forever and not much new players came to recover that loss. Definitely killed the game

Remember when they, for no logical reason, made the price of climbing boots from 12gp to 75k overnight, during a time when the game was at its peak playerbase? You can't convince me that wasn't some sort of jagex insider rwt scheme those jmods pulled with that update.
This happened during osrs too when zulrah got released. Every zulrah kill would drop like 30-50 teles and they traded for like 100gp each. Then they changed it from zulrah teles every kill to only 4 teles and like 1/56 drop rate. Players had 100k stacks of the teleports and they went from 100gp to 50k each

I remember at first people were willing to give it a chance if they capped it to being able to run a max of like 4 abilities or so that had only minor benefits and a lower rate of adrenaline generation, but they overtuned it massively. That plus the balancing changes (removing the god spells was a travesty and ruining pure builds) and the art style changes just drove away too many people.
Mod Mark being the lead game designer was the single worst thing to happen to jagex. The reason Both Rs3 and Osrs have been making much better changes in the past two years are because he left the company...

Ya know what? I’ve been shitting on eoc for years, but he kinda had a point that players weren’t engaging with the interface during combat, I can see the angle to try and make it more engaging. The problem was that bosses were basic and poorly designed, and pkers hadn’t yet figured out the games internal mechanics, so players would just click and wait. The problem would’ve solved itself over time without a combat overhaul
Honestly miss dungeoneering, Summoning (although some summons were too op), Dominion Tower dreadnips, curses and overloads. Pre EoC Runescape was some of the best moments for me.
I remember I said "Jagex stop trying to compete with WoW" around the mods, and I got insta banned. I had quit the game shortly after, and thus the decline of runescape began.
The mods back then were so power hungry it was crazy you could get Perma-Banned just because a mod didn't like you or you were joking around and a mod was nearby and banned you. I got Perma for Item scamming jokingly selling a "Black Lobster 10K" (Burnt obviously) When someone traded I declined and then the next day was Perma Banned. Like how fucking braindead were these clowns to think I was being serious and even if I got paid 10k how is that even Perma bannable? They still had swarms of bots and I got banned lmao.

Left the game immediately when EoC was revealed. Returned 2018 to osrs and been a good choice. They made a new game and forced the runescape title on it. It'd be like WoW becoming a racing game.
I tried EOC. I did max necro on release too. I STILL have no clue wtf is going on. The abilities and descriptions are awful. Says shit that’s impossible to intuitively interpret, like “reduces dmg by 1.35x max hit for 3.2 seconds every 2.5 hits divided by ur strength bonus multiplied by ur strength bonus” and then the next one says it changes that one to 1.2x max hit if ur run energy is >95% only when ur energy is below 95%. It is by far the most catastrophic update to any game ever.

I also insta quit on eoc lauch, but after going back a few years ago and learning it, its actually pretty decent and I split my time pretty evenly between the two. We were just young and wasnt the same game we slaved away on. Its a bit of a big bite to chew off at first but the pvm is pretty good.

Not only was EOC ass. It was unbalanced as fuck. Me and a friend went on a single Zammy trip for 6 hours with nothing but a set of dharok. Only reason we had to leave is because our armor was about to fully degrade.

I specifically played Runescape because I disliked action bars. By the time EOC came out I was already losing interest in RS because of the load of weird changes they made to combat bots and EOC just made me drop it like a brick.
I remember trying it out taking a shield with you and when you got full spec bar you just healed a massive amount. You literally couldn't die it took no skill at all clicking on a tree to Chop it down was harder.
They ruined all pure accounts, and I literally quit because of this update. They wanted to be WoW so bad.

Not only was EOC ass. It was unbalanced as fuck. Me and a friend went on a single Zammy trip for 6 hours with nothing but a set of dharok. Only reason we had to leave is because our armor was about to fully degrade.

I gave EOC a try. But when they made my lvl 93 maxed range tank lvl 200, it ended my pking career. That account was my main also, so I just quit.

I specifically played Runescape because I disliked action bars. By the time EOC came out I was already losing interest in RS because of the load of weird changes they made to combat bots and EOC just made me drop it like a brick.
Evolution of Combat is the greatest thing to ever happen to RS… said no one EVER.

I remember trying it out taking a shield with you and when you got full spec bar you just healed a massive amount. You literally couldn't die it took no skill at all clicking on a tree to Chop it down was harder.
