- at IEM New York 2011 there was a showmatch between NA and EU to showcase CS:GO, and the game looked A LOT DIFFERENT than it does today. What did players think? Lets take a look and compare to CSGO today.

fun fact: the team I mentioned came last in Source but 1st in CSGO was actually jdm64's team. me and mahone's team lost in the CSS finals to a 15(?) year old naf (who was already nuts btw)
-- VOD of the 1st game is by ESL Archive if that wasn't obvious from the intro
No way that is indeed crazy
Toxic
Koth here. I remember winning that lan in vancouver and getting my crisp $100 canadian bill. I had been playing csgo for a month at that time because esea invite players got the game early and I couldn't hit anything in css anymore. Also we came in 3rd in css after I had my eyebrow all bloodied from getting hit in the head by a pc case lol. I still have the original csgo tshirt we all got, do you?
@@NS-uw8bv did you guys come 3rd in css? i stg in my memory i'm 100% sure you guys came last but memory do be like that
it was also bogus cuz 1st in css which was way more serious got like a headset and 1st in csgo actually got cash lol
@@vooCSGO yup 3rd place and got a solid state drive. Which was actually I think the better of the 3 prizes.
Fun fact: the guy named trace is the new astralis coach, also a 1.6 legend like zonic
As a Polish Golden5 fan I was always scared of mTw, these guys were so good. 😅
Just call it CS ONE, if anything. There's no need to use it's version number anymore
@@sdHansy its always gonna be 1.6
@@sdHansy OG Counter-Strike and Counter-Strike 1.6 are actually different games on Steam
it was cool to see trace back in the game, i personally always considered him better at the game than zonic
"It made me quit for couple of years" haha I know EXACTLY that feeling. I was a 1.6 player and already Source was weird for me and I never bothered playing it and when GO came out it was the same. I tested the game when it was accessable for the public, but didn't like it at all. I bought it then in 2015 and only played it for few hours up to 2017 when I actually started to play. But it is incredible how much the game evolved over the years.
I quit once source came out. Came back for CSGO since it was free and I had time to waste
@@JoeSchmo51 i skipped source all together and started csgo in 2019 i believe. or maybe it was 2018?! getting destroyed by kids due to much lower reaction time so i have to try and get those kills in the back.
im about 80hrs in...the last time i played was at a pc cafe wen i was 17....im 38 now...😅
Ok
:)
3:40 aint no way you just said pp bizon like that
hes definitely trolling lmao
I think you actually need to make a video, possibly two on how CSGO evolved from what's seen in this video to the 1st two major tournaments, and how Source and 1.6 pros either moved on to CSGO or retired from Counter Strike altogether.
same, would love to see that
0:21 Never though I'd hear someone calling Starcraft a beginner friendly game
Eh the guy thought of the first game that was relavant back then and threw it in. Thats like saying DOTA2 is casual also and roblox highly competitive.
starcraft was essentially an easy to play hard to master type of game
A game being beginner friendly has very little to do with the game and mostly to do with the player base. If you could play starcraft consistently against other beginner players it would be beginner friendly.
This man said beginner friendly games and included starcraft lolll
That was a surprising statement to say the least haha
That must have been a joke, SC and league are notoriously difficult games
@@dougler500 Later on scrolling through comments I saw a response of Voo explaining what he meant, it's about the accessibility due to the presence of a matchmaking, not about the difficulty of the games themselves.
Thank God the game evolved how it has. This is fun to remember but it was also terrible to play back then lol
that deagle looks like a left 4 dead 2 mod
Seeing a younger GetRight pop off brings a smile to my face
I remember watching this tournament. I already had the closed beta key from PAX in 2011 so I got to play the game really early. Still bothers me to this day that TF2 beta testers got a beta medal and CSGO players did not. We spent time playing it and leaving our thoughts and improvement ideas in forums and whatnot but got nothing in return.
rip bozo now without proof like badges your story is a lie
jk man
Back in 1.6, lots of people used Burst fire on Famas from long range, me included, so thats why they were using the busrt fire mode.
It was very accurate. Headshot+body shot from burst instakill.
This was interesting for me to watch. I played with friends in college on whatever version was around in 2003. Then didn't touch a CS again until CSGO in 2021.
Great video! Do you think you could review demo from first major, how the game has evolved from there.
LMAO I WAS WATCHING THIS MATCH YESTERDAY AND YOU POST THIS VIDEO TODAY WOW
The galil looks cursed af
Now I know why the galil is so shit
It was supposed to have a scope this whole time 🤣
@@theZCAllen if you think the galil is shit then you just don't know how to use it lmao
@@X3nnoha if you think the galil is work 1800 then you just play like a noob
@@theZCAllen just say you cant shoot 😂
@@X3nnoha just say you can't shoot? Just say you're a noob who can't hit deags
Dumb lol, imagine defending the galil - how fail
Man I miss old CSGO it’s nostalgic af
4:00 I noticed two things... first, n0thing did in fact, get a kill... and second MY MAN KSHARP 💪
I miss those amazing nades from condition zero... those would demolish anyone 🤣
Thank you for making this video. I took a years long break from CS when GO was released and I couldn't remember why. I literally only started playing again when riptide was released.
I played CS before steam, and loved it through 1.6. Source was great too but it was quite different. I'm remembering now, thanks to this, how awful it was to play CSGO when it first arrived on scene..
Thanks for reminding me of the memories Lmao 😂😂
It says on Liquipedia that they played de_dust2_se, but if i remember correctly the se versions didn't have fog and particles.
THATS THE CONTENT IM SUBBED FOR !
As a fellow old man, I've played thousands of hours on the real 1.6 map, fy_iceworld. Even though shooting the AWP at the first second was about 50% to get a kill 🤣 (nostalgia for that), we all had binds to run to mid and buy a FAMAS and armor. Burst fire was almost always a 1HKO. Good times.
I remember CS:GO had crazy ambient occlusion and the maps were sooo gray. Aztec was stunning.
I know one of the early CSGO players in-game. Stuff has changed a lot
this is why cs is the greatest game, the history of it is fantastic.
And they say Valorant is going to kill this legendary game, lmao.
@@jaypaul15 yea i remembered that period where so many people were saying that and how Valorant will takeover CSGO. Bunch of clowns lmao
@@jaypaul15 valorant is such a shitty game
@@jaypaul15 They used to call Valorant "CSGO killer" lol
@@SalahAbdullah97 this just sounds like tf2 when overwatch came out.
When I preordered csgo and started it up as soon as it was available and saw the deagle draw animation I went „look how they massacred my boi“ and didn’t touch it for a few months.
Scoped galul was so weird too
Name matches the comment
2:45 Hearing Deman shoutcasting from that long ago is bizarre
I really miss the high arc on T spawn. You mention the thing that got me the most kills back when I was playing 1.5. Just stitting on T spawn with an autosniper and spamming the doors sometimes got me team wipes. Think that is where all the autosniper hate really comes from
Famas burst fire mode was a thing back in 1.6 super accurate
The deagle almost looks like it has 0 recoil
3:29 they used the famas on burst in 1.6 which is probably why
Seeing Get Right be good unlocked key memories for me
I think I got the game somewhere in 2013 and played it for like 20 minutes before going back to TF2 for a few more years.
The Aug/SG scope that was full screen is something I remember tho.
0:21 listen I get the point your trying to make, but calling SC2 a beginner friendly game is definetly NOT accurate.
@@fkdkdkfkrkska48485 this was literally what cArn said in an interview after the game btw
I wouldn't really have used those games but cArn said it in the interview after the game in 2011 and I respected his expertise given we're in 2022 and it's hard to remember what 2011 was like (and his mention of matchmaking system in sc2/lol vs server browser in 1.6 made sense). I also wouldn't really say SC2 isn't beginner friendly since it's super intuitive + there's some decent tutorials + single player. It's super hard, but IMO that's a different thing than beginner friendliness.
@@vooCSGO Valid, not really what I mean aswell. Obviously back then having a ranked system made the game a lot easier. My point is that being half decent at CS is imo easier than SC2, where you need to know build paths etc. Its just that a bit larger requirement for game knowledge.
@@vooCSGO which carn said this?
In sc2 there was also carn, but he is another man from other country (as far as i remember he was a french arab).
It was beginner friendly, because sc2 was just introduced and people played bullshit strats like 4warpgate.
Modern sc2 is absolutely not a beginner friendly.
I wish you could still play this version of the game with people, or at least csgo from 2013-2015
i remember there being "big" tournaments for CS way back when with 1.3-1.5... sunman was my favroite player back then
yeah he was in the best source team in the world in 2008 lmao
@@lukebruce5234 i use to watch his old divx videos. i think sunman 2 or 3 was my favorite. then the shAguar videos too
Voo u need to upload more i need more tips to get out of mg1. Interesting vid
Tbh If U Play mm U can Just AIM until global. Sounds awful but it is Like that.
2:27 Lol, we still do that up to this day!
The animation for planting the bomb looks like you are tickling it, lol.
How to deal with "bad days" would like to see a video to this
The nade would do about 150 damage with a close nade.
Anyone around during CPL (Cyber Professional League) and CAL (Cyber Amateur League) years? SK were the Navi back then
Yeah I played from 1999-2005ish . Went to CPL 2003 and was cal-p.
Came back to play csgo this year and struggling big time figuring out this new game
Damn, I like Zeus round idea A LOT
also if they did something with cs_pro back in the days it would be way better probably for both community
Faceit please bring back zeus rounds, that looks like good fun
Scoped galil looking kinda nice ngl
I remember when go dropped on the Xbox 360 store I was so hyped
csgo has evolved so much this looks like an entirely different game lol. now i wanna see someone try and recreate this through a mod just so we could experience it.
I came here to see a comment talking about how you said "Check out this video that valve thinks you'll like"
I didn't find it so i guess i must take that job
What an awesome video
"beginner friendly like leauge of legends" oh how times have changed
You need ceeate a custom competitive match in this build
0:27 "Beginner friendly games like starcraft"
The 2013 update really made csgo a real game
I grew up with Source but quit CS for a couple of years after GO came out.
what am I watching. No wonder I didn't start playing this game till 2018, despite buying it at release in 2012!
0:25 'much more beginner-friendly StarCraft' wut (I assume u mean SC2, but even then that doesn't rly fit, it was big)
(there was also CS: O in Asia, but the market was already taken by CF, SA also SF still by then)
Hey Voo little random but was wondering how you feel about the ranking system for North America? Because all my friends and I have stopped playing it due to how poorly it ranks you up. We would 4 in a row nothing, then lose 1 knowing it essentially resets is really disheartening. Any tips?
In my personal experience, its always felt like to rank up (if you play a 5 man stack) you need everyone on similar ranks otherwise it seems that the lower elo person ranks up much more. Also try out short matches, i played a string of short matches and didnt do particularly well, ranked up from dmg to LEM in under 6 games or so (if i remember right i was dmg for a while so not sure) whereas ive won 8 long games in a row all with well above 20kills if not 30 bombs and didnt rank up.
I talk about this in my video "matchmaking is broken and it's killing cs"
NA mm got fixed :D
Nice vid
Deagle looks cooler in this version ❤️
Look at how little recoil the Deagle has and the SG553 looks different too
no recoil but the spread looks way awful back then
Starcraft begginer friendly? What are you smoking my man?
I wouldn't say sc2 is explicitly not beginner friendly, but I'm guessing people responding with this (since this is a very common comment) are thinking about the view of sc2 now vs csgo. remember this is early sc2 being compared directly to games like 1.6 and source that didn't even have a matchmaking system, so "more beginner friendly" is all relative. I wouldn't say sc2 is more beginner friendly than most games in 2022, though I would say it's probably not far off from csgo if i'm being honest
@@vooCSGO yeah no, the barrier for entry for competitive sc2 is considerably higher than any cs game. This is coming from a guy who played cs1.5 and bw back in the day, as well as the subsequent games in these franchises.
Did anyone notice there wasn't any recoil screen shaking effect? you cannot unsee once u notice it
apparently no recoil but aimpunch lol
I think it existed it just wasn't being shown in spectate, but not 100% sure
i kinda like how it looks
I played the first operation coin to 10h (silver). The game was so horrible to play that there was no way I would waste another 40h for the gold one lol
Arms race was kinda fun, i loved playing it in 2012-2013
@@BlueWafer Still is. Source: 'bout 6000 arms race games
It’s crazy that some people weren’t even born when this happened
This was not CS:GO this was CS:Stay

o-oh, right there was hilarious haha
:( I miss the full speed awp so much still
I quit for a few years after playing the beta too lol. Came back though

Get_Right, greatest lurker of all time
Last line, you said, check out video that VALVE will like .it should be youtube
Oh shit Ksharp
the graphics look better weirdly
0:21 did he just call StarCraft a beginner friendly game? 💀it's so hard to play
Anyone remember 1.3 23 years I've been playing this game
Seems like they were trying to go for a more CoD feel somehow
4:06 omg look at that deagle animation. There is zero ooomph
I bought it for ps3 at launch lmfao. I got the platinum trophy and didn't touch it after that. Didn't get it for pc until later.
Burstfire Famas players are just Chads
4:20 "This smoke seems to function very differently than smokes do nowadays" bruh :D
Oh shit it's 3D, aka x3. KSharp and Rambo were legends back then. Simpler times, where you had to go on mIRC just to find a pug or scrimmage. #gamesnet #gamesurge
When source was released it really fractured the community, It felt like garbage. Glad CS:GO was able to bring back that 1.6 feeling for the most part.
9:01 Valve owns youtube confirmed??
honest to god i didn't notice him say valve the first time lmao
Do t's still hold A from pit?
How does The War Owl exist with you doing youtube??
Why would valve of all people think I would like the end card video
0:20 i am so confused, does he think starcraft and league are beginner friendly??
no go tv, but there wasnt demos? what?
wait, trace and zonice were in the same team? with get right lol
I'm not sure I've ever heard the words "league of legends" and "beginner friendly" in the same sentence before lol.
Bruh, I wouldn't also play CS:GO Beta too, if it was worse like this, gameplay, mechanics, and graphics. Thank God, it's now changed! And it's getting better over the years!
the deagles dont even have recoil
damn theyre like gold novas
"beginner friendly games like starcraft" XD?
Did you just say that Starcraft is more beginner friendly? Lol
" 5 year veteran" awper😁
starcraft...beginner friendly?! Im 200 hours in and still have no clue how to macro properly
hah.. compared to CS1.6 for sure. honestly wouldn't probably have used SC2 as an example but cArn calls out Starcraft specifically as more beginner friendly in the interview after the game
I meannnn, sounds like a you problem lol. But really how is starcraft noob friendly
@@dessert506 actually part of his statement was specifically in regards to a gameplay system -- CSS and 1.6 didn't have a matchmaking system you had to actually find communities to play with vs just pressing play
