Same. Also i think the map is not that hard to fix. (1) Ts would have to be first at house - so there are 3 ways to cover by the cts. Maybe just remove the whole wall. So as soon ts jump out the window they see door and the lower entrance. (2) Add a connector (f.e. from the house to ct hallway (add a new path at ct hallways/left of the bottom of the stairs of the control room)) is needed for the Ts only. So cts cant cover hallway 1 sided and also could get backstabed in control room. Done... rest is fine-tuning.

de_prodigy lore: Prodigy actually has a story that only mentioned in a Alexander Manilov interview. Its called Prodigy because the crator was listening to The Prodigy at the time. The map has its name because of a experimental super AI called P.R.O.D.I.G.Y. that gets attacked by a rival computer firm that hires a mercenary group of terrorists. Also originally prodigys guard house was supposed to have working cameras but it didnt worked because for some reason de_ maps dont let cameras work
As a former CAL-I player back in the day, I can say after all the hours put into this game, de_prodigy remains one of the most dynamic defuse maps ever made. The multitude of contact points, distance, and timing made each round unique and variable. Nades felt way more valuable in each part of the map due to a lot of blind spots but the map lent itself well driving close quarter confrontation and encouraged tight coordination with its short distancing. Many a good memories scrimming on this map.
In the original map, there's a spot by the hut where you can climb up a rock and exploit a glitch where you can see through the walls, and also swim in the sky to some bullshit camping spots. I used to exploit the shit out of that on public servers back in the day. There was also a spot on the cliff you could jump off and safely land on. You could grab the bomb and just wait out the clock on that ledge to be an asshole, or potentially to save a weapon.
A more accurate title would be "One of Counter-Strike's first defuse maps", as Dust and Nuke were included in the same update as prodigy, beta 4.0 on november 5 1999
When playing 1.6 I always try to vote de_prodigy when most likely people vote dust2 over and over or inferno/train/nuke.. It is low resolution but at that time I still feel it is breathtaking to watch.
One of the problem of porting old "bad" maps to CS:GO is, back in the old days, CS was rarely played in 5v5 teams of similar skilled players. There could be a huge skill gap between the worst and the best player, teams didn't always have equal amount of players, and players could switch sides at any point during the match. This helped to balance a very unbalanced maps. If one side was harder, you could always have more or more skilled players on that side
Damn what a nostalgia trip. When I first started playing 2v2's with my buddy they were always in prodigy. Haven't seen this map in literally over a decade

playing prodigy on CSS back in the day in fun servers... good times. thanks for the memories. that hallway (6:40) was such a chokepoint i remember trying over and over again to win there and failing because i was but a noob
I remember the buy zone in ct-spawn being really far out and buy time often being very long in 1.1-1.6. That way you could stay in spawn throwing nades for 90 seconds down the corridor.
de_prodigy was our home map for many months. Really good memories were made on that map. Thanks to the creators of this map. I kinda dropped out of CS at the switch to CS:GO, but I feel sad this map did not get the legendary status of being ported over.
For a good while this was my favorite CS map (and I was reeeaaalllly good at it), and when you talk about it being a bad map with balance issues I must say I have no idea WTF you're talking about. Since there's only 2 directions you can go that both connect to each other, the strategy is solid for both teams, and the map has a unique circular flow like a race track. Whatever direction either team chooses to attack or defend, they absolutely have to be ready for pressure coming the opposite direction. I'll admit the map leaves little room for improv tactics since it's basic and it boxes you in, but that's all part of the fun.
Prodigy and Aztec were CT maps, used by teams on CLANBASE that knew how to defend on them. REALLY defend! When a good team was on the first places, other team that was behind and had a chance to get over them had to play on one of those, they lose the first team's map pick and then, they had a chance on Prodigy or Aztec where they tried to 16-0 as CT and hope for a win as T or or just take 1 or 2 wins as T and hope for a 16-0 as CT. Good times!!!
Back in the day it was common in games to open doors on different kinds of buttons or control pannels next to doors or even in other rooms rather than walking up to a door and using a hotkey.
Even though i rarely get to play it with other people, this was one of my favorite CS maps. The 1.6 version with all the half-life textures was really cool
I played a league match on prodigy back in the day where due to the economy balance in CS 1.3 the most effective strategy on a T eco round was to camp spawn with glocks and wait out the round timer, which back then was 3 minutes. We sat in T spawn for 3 minutes. Good times.
I'm pretty sure I've never heard the name before, and I didn't recognize the 1.6 version. The moment you booted up the Source version though, damn, that brings back memories. Not because I played it in Source, nonono, but in Gmod. TTT to be specific.
7:50 "they just wanted to play counterstrike" funny you say that - i distinctly remember "playing" loads of prodigy in both 1.6 and also cs:source, but "playing" meant waiting for minutes at a time at one of the many impassable chokepoints in 10v10 servers, hoping the other team would get tired and try to push, and then getting lost in the bombsite maze in the last 20 seconds if you survived, or sitting there in spectator mode if you didnt. The source version had a better layout, but of course had those physics items, and also had several experimental lighting effects which dropped my FPS to about 5.
there use to be another gametype called chargers where the clock doesn't stop between rounds and both teams have 10 minutes to get as many T rounds as possible. I think de_prodigy was geared toward that older gametype because only one path is really viable for offense which forces the random people to play together more. the fight is an extended lane with that vent element in the ceiling to make it more interesting (CT can only get to it before T with a very good spawn so most often it's empty) a misunderstood and overlooked map that a lot of people scrimmed and played for a reason!
Man its weird to think that I played de_prodigy first in counter strike condition zero. That map always had such awesome vibe to it.Which I miss the most in newer cs game.
The CS 1.6 version feels like it’s actually part of Black Mesa while Source makes it feel like it’s part of the rebel base you use to fight striders in HL2:E2
I remember we had a LAN with a cs tournament. In every match up the teams could choose any official defuse map as their own. And then one match was played on either teams favourite map. One team had prodigy as their choice simply because so few people knew it. So we had to practice on it. I remember we were really on our toes back then. I remember that me and a team mate was on each side of a door we were defending and a grenade landed at our feet and we immediately ran out through the door guns blazing. 😊 Good times.
I'm really loving the content here. Feels like a mix between ESCalation's and 3kliklsphilip (I'm just reading captions for reasons though, so can't say anything about the voiceovers). Do a video for Torn if you could, I would love to see your opinion. It's a map that I remember specifically for bad framerates when I was a kid but I really enjoyed playing Torn against bots. I really loved the art style in CZ, I think, but no one ever talks about it. It also had a unique feel to it, and idk, I also remember feeling it is one of the more competitively viable maps among the ones cut out in GO. P.S the best way to make Hostage relevant imo is to give it its own game mode and ranks like Wingman and Danger Zone. Bundling it alongside Defusal only makes it worse, with loads of hackers and longtime Office diehards since regular players rarely give them a chance. If Hostage Rescue and Bomb Defusal are given separate game modes, there's more room for improvement for maps in general. Unrelated to the video, but I just wanted to add this in.
not sure if you take suggestions but maybe look back at maps added from old operations? Some of them were fun and also horribly unbalanced but fun none the less.
I personally remember Prodigy being a really fun map back in those early days! Really nostalgic for me, possibly even the first ever map I played the game on 🥲
Loved this map…had some great matches on it in CAL. One time in a scrim we were t side and they pushed the long hall and got the bomb down I was able to get it back to a 1v1 and the guy was surfing on the wall on the outside and I surfed down the wall and knifed him right as time was running out. I also remember my friend getting a 4k spray down from those stairs looking down the long hall.
I know its a small scene, but 2v2 in pro 1.6 de_prodigy was very popular in eu. My brother was one of the top duo players. They had mastered de_prodigy so hard.
I remember this map very well. Wall banging was so broken there, and so many places to scan through. I played ClanBase matches on this map and got banned on many servers for wallhacking there, even i was playing fully legit. Second map with this amount of walls to scan, was nuke and third one i guess, inferno :)
I was talking about cs recently and this as well as de_survivor came up. I loved that map, but no one ever wanted to play it - I know it wasn't exactly good, but it was so neat looking.
Considering that both teams had a solid strategy for defense, whoever won the first pistol round(s) should have won the match as well. It was soooo easy to defend the sites as a CT on this map. I have good memories, like this map. I miss the old 1.5 era.
I loved playing prodigy back in the days. 10v10 and getting a nice K/D in the choke points. But indeed it wouldn't work in that layout ! Still has a special place in my mind, specially in the vent area

de_prodigy was our home map for many months.
Didn't recognise this map at all until it switched to Source and I realise it's a map I played hours on in Gmod Trouble In Terrorist Town
so many memories, especially falling off the ledge and dying haha
I think I got stuck on that ledge a few times instead of falling off lol. I think u could do a pixel walk on some portions too
Prodigy and Aztec were CT maps, used by teams on CLANBASE that knew how to defend on them.
Prodigy was our favorite map back in the 1.5 and 1.6 days. Me and the homies used to play it for days. That and Quake 2 on The Edge map. Good times o7
Good times.
Another banger, keep it up. Hope you're making some money now that you're taking on sponsors
I'm pretty sure I've never heard the name before, and I didn't recognize the 1.6 version.
The moment you booted up the Source version though, damn, that brings back memories.
Not because I played it in Source, nonono, but in Gmod. TTT to be specific.
I'd love to see piranesi added to csgo
7:50 "they just wanted to play counterstrike" funny you say that - i distinctly remember "playing" loads of prodigy in both 1.6 and also cs:source, but "playing" meant waiting for minutes at a time at one of the many impassable chokepoints in 10v10 servers, hoping the other team would get tired and try to push, and then getting lost in the bombsite maze in the last 20 seconds if you survived, or sitting there in spectator mode if you didnt. The source version had a better layout, but of course had those physics items, and also had several experimental lighting effects which dropped my FPS to about 5.
prodigy was propably most intense map in 1.x era, I loved it
Spent so many hours playing this map, I remember instantly liking de maps over hostage ones
there use to be another gametype called chargers where the clock doesn't stop between rounds and both teams have 10 minutes to get as many T rounds as possible. I think de_prodigy was geared toward that older gametype because only one path is really viable for offense which forces the random people to play together more. the fight is an extended lane with that vent element in the ceiling to make it more interesting (CT can only get to it before T with a very good spawn so most often it's empty)
a misunderstood and overlooked map that a lot of people scrimmed and played for a reason!
Oh dude I loved that map! I couldn't connect the map itself with a name since it kinda faded away, but man it brings back good old memories :D
Remember playing this map in WCG quali in my country, was such a fun map.
Good times.
Oh maaan THANK YOU 4 REMIND ME of de_prodigy!!! it's a great map and u did a great analysis!
I’m always wishing they would add more fun stuff like more physics objects to csgo, and this guy said that was what made the source version bad, lol
That brings me back.. Not quite as old but remember de_port? and cs_compound.
I had so much fun scriming this map with my team to prepare for it in CAL
The irony is that prodigy would be an amazing casual map for a 10v10 game mode
not sure if you take suggestions but maybe look back at maps added from old operations? Some of them were fun and also horribly unbalanced but fun none the less.
Oh man, completed forgot this existed. I must be old
what a fantastic opening remark: "every cs player AT LEAST KNOWS of (cs_)office", ahhh the times we live in xD Love the video
damn i loved prodigy and i miss that map, so great to see it's getting a bit of attention these days
I personally remember Prodigy being a really fun map back in those early days! Really nostalgic for me, possibly even the first ever map I played the game on 🥲
RIP prodigy
man, I really miss the classics. Prodigy, piranesi, Oilrig, militia and siege.
This map was also in the original Xbox CS port that came out in 2003. Great memories on Xbox Live.
I learned CS on Prodigy. Bunny hopping with an MP5 with perfect accuracy. Ahhh, good times.
Take your time! Love your videos
Prodigy is amazing, i loved playing the source version in csgo even against just bots
Considering that both teams had a solid strategy for defense, whoever won the first pistol round(s) should have won the match as well.
It was soooo easy to defend the sites as a CT on this map. I have good memories, like this map. I miss the old 1.5 era.
de_prodigy?! Damn, it's been years since the last time I was playing on that map
I loved playing prodigy back in the days. 10v10 and getting a nice K/D in the choke points. But indeed it wouldn't work in that layout ! Still has a special place in my mind, specially in the vent area
