I enjoyed this whole episode. Even though I don't make exclusive esports journalism content, I still make a living doing what I do. it is really interesting to learn about all facets of the content creation industry and relate to a lot of the bs double standard things. 57:00 is like the motto of the internet. The outspoken minority of idiots has a strange aspect, inconsequential yet a lot of power to cause problems. Its a wondrous blessing to play or review games as a passion, which is why I love all of Thorin's content. A lot of it comes from how blunt and real he is about the problems and his opinions since it makes it more surreal. Also thinking about the future is crazy. How long will I keep this up or be relevant or able to live off it. Will my time come, or will I become established enough to become timeless and never grow up
This is pure gold. Love this info, considering that i have only been around for 15 months, but got casual experience from this scene AS one of the people you wanted to "please" years ago. Thooorin My backlog is deep, but you sure makes it easy for the few of us that value information with this vid. Nice job to both of you.
This is weirdly accurate for some reason. Like I can always pop a "Thorin's Thoughts" or "Trash Talk" episode and comfortably do my assignments, and Richard's strong code of ethics that's made clear in all of his vids is what makes his content so fascinating.
casuals may forget you guys, but esports (in my case mainly cs and starcraft among other esports games) has been part of my life ever since I downloaded hl1 and broodwar, and people like me will allways remember and know were we came from and were we are and we see rigth trhough everything and thats why I love both of you even when it seem you try the hardest to get your careers ended asap. you migth be "forgoten" in the future in the mass media social mind or whatever, but there will allways be those old dogs out there who will never forget anything that has happened in the scene and you both have permanently etched yourselves as interesting figures in at elast my mind, maybe never central ones, because the organisers and teams are allways the stars and center of attention, but still allways lurking around, contributing with essential "flavor" and giving this unique contribution that keeps the scene honest in your own special way. it was a great episode with alot of interesting thoutghs and anecdotes , stories also I do agree alot with this "golden era" thing , it has already started and I see alot of people acting in ways I never would have expected them to, it will be great for the popularity and growth etc, but I am very worried about the integrity of certain things. i guess thats the way it cant help but go towards, i just hope I dont get too dissapointed by people I have respected and loved for so long. one thing for sure things will get interesting, the growth and interest (toward esport in general) seem to have doubled and doubled in much faster rates the last 4 years its almost scary. i will just end this train of thougth before it becomes unreadable walloftext, I could probably write an essay on many of the things discussed, but thanks for the episode. (rip english, grammar and spelling, sorry everyone who actually read lol)
1:25:43 Halfway point check-in: - CS:GO is Valve's flagship esport, and stronger in some respects than it has ever been. - Riot is still shit, but they're trying to get all the CS:GO people with Valorant. - A/B is still shit, and the OWL is dying. - Games "journalists" are even worse overall. Thanks 2016. - Overall, some "mainstream" acceptance, but minimal/not meaningful (big yikes to 2018 and FN in particular) - Richard is still remembered and needed more than ever right now (even if he now regrets the fallout from the IBP scandal). And he absolutely DESTROYED hosting CS on cable TV. I hope that I can check this video again in 2025 and have a better outlook than I do right now.
you know what would made this refloctions better? if dordin and m'good sir richord both worn fedoras then they would be very gentlemenish like me per say, you see im having a hard time getting outta the friendzone because m'ladies walk all over nice guys like me, i deserve challenjour but dordin no fedora despite me asking him over 1000 times on skype, gg
Thooorin Yes your idea is that the good E-sport journalist and their followers are a superior breed to those nasty team owners and personalities, secretly plan how to take over completely, mean while that cripple fuck of professor Lewis has a more pacifistic approach with the E-sport personalities and is always looking for a way establish an E-sport syndicate to maintain order and peace.
For Thorin's haters that calls him everything he isn't, this is how he talks to someone who reported him and was one of the many reasons that made him to be released from OnGamers. Neutrality and respect. You keyboard warriors really have to get your shit together or else eports will not progress as a whole.
I really love all of this, the part near the middle section and on is really the meat of this though. Talking of the community, ethics, the "market" for all of this and just other people in specific. Very good interview, if this can be called such a thing.
this was one of the most insightful and entertaining Reflection episodes you've done. while I'm not the biggest fan of RL, I gained a lot of respect for where he came from and where he is now. also, this was much more of a conversation than normal entries in this series are, and it benefitted a lot from that. you two may not see eye to eye on everything, but the rapport between you both really shines here. great work, one of my favorite Reflections thus far
I didn't think I'd ever actually watch this video, but it was really awesome! Glad I watched this. I hope whatever this new job Richard Lewis got isn't what was referenced in this video.
this might be the most honest and personally validating interview as far as my own views on the idea of a mass consensus being a predominant voice that drowns out individual thought. holy shit thank you richard and thorin
I actually listened to whole video while doing other activities. I hope people realize that you are real people and appreciate your content in the future. Keep up the good work.
Don't really think there is any bad blood between them now, like it was in the past. Obviously that is just my impression of it, so it might be different. But honestly that would not make sense.
peLicaN Games I don't even know. They were just casting some csgo event ( the one with potato chip sponsors) a couple months ago and have done so numerous times. In the lol community they just go their separate ways and excel in their respective parts of esports journalism.
Excellent interview really enjoyed this episode of reflections, its really nice to hear about all these topics that are not directly about the game.Richard has done an amazing job in this interview of expressing his opinion, keep doing what you guys are doing both of you are putting out awesome content.
Duncan is like Hawkeye. He just kind of sits there and does what he has to do and occasionally is excessively important to an events outcome but mostly just a reliable hand.
I just got done watching the grilled with RL, was a little saddened with how well he and Deman used to get on when he talked about it in the interview in comparison to now. But this is a pleasant but expected surprise.
Strange conversation at the end there. Great interview/conversation. It's great to learn a bit more about Richard Lewis. I hadn't known anything about him after I learned who he was for his fantastic work on match fixing (which most of us greatly appreciate BTW).
One day, Thorin will be wearing a twitch shirt, using a HTC phone and be doing another Reflection with RIchard Lewis, and asks him to come over to the "dark side" :> I jest, words from 5 mins of this interview weighs much more than a page of any esports sub reddit these days. Well done, well said, worth staying up for.
I love the fact that RL describes Travis in a good light, and then compares him to David fucking Brent. Good Stuff. You two are great, you should work together more often.
Who would win in a beard off between these two? We have seen Thooorin reach some sort of Dwarf status with his bear but Richard is an unknown. I think we should have a beard off. On another note this should be fun!!
what RL says is pretty scary... the "hi i was a fan of your work until THIS was said and now i hate you and... blah blah blah" pretty accurate statement but a lot of people like myself stop before hitting that level ;3 and recently (past few months) thoorin has come out with quite a few statements that i agree with and have made me a good fan of his already
To be fair, RL has a very hard time accepting criticism and most of the people he call stalkers are simply ones who dare disagree with him. For someone who has no fear of calling people out, he is surprisingly thin skinned when someone does the same thing.
I like how Richard describes being polite as "appealing to the lowest common denominator." This really is a bizarro inversion that only he could come up with.
Months later, he gots job offers at places like CNN as what was it, an esports writer or something? Again, more confirmation that he wasn't a "toxic asset" that can't be worked with like to keep telling him he is. Real happy for him
Would Duncan be like the G-man from Half life? You know, allways watching and being there, not saying much but with the ability to say the right thing and then just control everyone?
I enjoyed this whole episode. Really enjoyed this interview/reflection. My two favorite 'esport' journalists!

Nice job to both of you.
This is so damn good. When you're an older teenager, listening to two people who are settled into adulthood talk can be so interesting.
This is weirdly accurate for some reason. Like I can always pop a "Thorin's Thoughts" or "Trash Talk" episode and comfortably do my assignments, and Richard's strong code of ethics that's made clear in all of his vids is what makes his content so fascinating.

Before i die i wanna see 'Reflections' with Reginald
Make it happen based thorin
Don't hold your breath
Luis Cornielle he just made a video with Reginald not a reflections video tho
I wanted to go to bed because of school tomorrow, but fuck that this is way more fun.
Don't do it man, you can watch this anytime.
Do it man, you cant watch this anytime.
literally the same thing here
2 years later. Do you regret missing school?
My two favorite 'esport' journalists!
Absolutely love the Part at 1:00:00 ( before and After), Couldnt Agree more! Fucking real Talk
you know what would made this refloctions better? if dordin and m'good sir richord both worn fedoras then they would be very gentlemenish like me per say, you see im having a hard time getting outta the friendzone because m'ladies walk all over nice guys like me, i deserve challenjour but dordin no fedora despite me asking him over 1000 times on skype, gg
love the intentional misspelling meme. hilarious!
I enjoy the depth and "true" journalism that Thooorin and Richard Lewis are willing to write and proceed.
My two favorite journalists in eSports. Loved this Reflections video!
I always thought Duncan and Lewis would be like Professor X and Magneto
I'm Magneto, right?
Thooorin
Yes your idea is that the good E-sport journalist and their followers are a superior breed to those nasty team owners and personalities, secretly plan how to take over completely, mean while that cripple fuck of professor Lewis has a more pacifistic approach with the E-sport personalities and is always looking for a way establish an E-sport syndicate to maintain order and peace.
Panet RoB when you word it like that then RL is a lot closer to Magneto lmao
nothing like that ofc
Coming back and watching all these reflections really choke me up.
Enjoyed this, I wonder in 10 years time if we will look back at these videos? I hope we do
For Thorin's haters that calls him everything he isn't, this is how he talks to someone who reported him and was one of the many reasons that made him to be released from OnGamers. Neutrality and respect. You keyboard warriors really have to get your shit together or else eports will not progress as a whole.
All People involved in the esports community should watch this honestly.
the behemoths of esports-journalism..love it
I really love all of this, the part near the middle section and on is really the meat of this though. Talking of the community, ethics, the "market" for all of this and just other people in specific. Very good interview, if this can be called such a thing.
OMG my two favorite esports journalists/riot critics in one video!!!
this was one of the most insightful and entertaining Reflection episodes you've done. while I'm not the biggest fan of RL, I gained a lot of respect for where he came from and where he is now. also, this was much more of a conversation than normal entries in this series are, and it benefitted a lot from that. you two may not see eye to eye on everything, but the rapport between you both really shines here. great work, one of my favorite Reflections thus far

Wow , what a great video . I never knew that i would be interested in this but in the end those 100 minutes flew by in a moment.
this might be the most honest and personally validating interview as far as my own views on the idea of a mass consensus being a predominant voice that drowns out individual thought. holy shit thank you richard and thorin
Thooorin seriously this might be your best interview on the topic of journalism ever
Yesss! I've been waiting for this. The Grilled with him was my introduction to Richard and I loved it.
Great Episode, Richard is a Don
Best Reflections ever, you two guys take up way too much of my time with your awesome content.
They looked so young even though it is not even 5 years since this video
I actually listened to whole video while doing other activities. I hope people realize that you are real people and appreciate your content in the future. Keep up the good work.
Can feel the sexual tension in the air.
LOL you're actually doing a reflections with RL? Didn't see that one coming...
he's done one with him before
Don't really think there is any bad blood between them now, like it was in the past. Obviously that is just my impression of it, so it might be different. But honestly that would not make sense.
Richard actually recommends Thorin's content in his videos.
why is this a surprise?
peLicaN Games I don't even know. They were just casting some csgo event ( the one with potato chip sponsors) a couple months ago and have done so numerous times. In the lol community they just go their separate ways and excel in their respective parts of esports journalism.
Great episode. Keep it up, Duncan. You too, Richard.
Excellent interview really enjoyed this episode of reflections, its really nice to hear about all these topics that are not directly about the game.Richard has done an amazing job in this interview of expressing his opinion, keep doing what you guys are doing both of you are putting out awesome content.
pinkfloydfan22 no turn will go unstoned ;)
Very nice episode.Defines reddit perfectly . Great job both of you
Rich and Dunk the e-sports super team, old nemesis's transformed, make Richard and Thorin a talk show, the masses are ready.
Thanks for another quality episode of reflections Thooorin.
Duncan is like Hawkeye. He just kind of sits there and does what he has to do and occasionally is excessively important to an events outcome but mostly just a reliable hand.
Was hoping you meant the Marvel superhero.
Did sir. But like Avengers movie/90s marvel comics Hawkeye. lol
Thooorin Thought he was talking about the tennis hawkeye. lmao
I just got done watching the grilled with RL, was a little saddened with how well he and Deman used to get on when he talked about it in the interview in comparison to now. But this is a pleasant but expected surprise.
Love this! Its like when my two favorite shows do a crossover!
Strange conversation at the end there.
Great interview/conversation. It's great to learn a bit more about Richard Lewis. I hadn't known anything about him after I learned who he was for his fantastic work on match fixing (which most of us greatly appreciate BTW).
This is oddly enough one of the best i've seen you do yet, very interesting and funny as fuck at the same time. =)
great addition of content to the greatness that's called youtube. :P
Holy shit, Naked Lunch... It's been so long since I've heard that. I like RLewis even more now. Wow.
Thorin do you have a website where you publish written esports articles?
Edit. 4 days later... I guess not.
Straight fire interview :D
i have really grown to respect RL as a person, to be honest i have never read his article, but he is very wise
One day, Thorin will be wearing a twitch shirt, using a HTC phone and be doing another Reflection with RIchard Lewis, and asks him to come over to the "dark side" :> I jest, words from 5 mins of this interview weighs much more than a page of any esports sub reddit these days. Well done, well said, worth staying up for.
loving the new profile pic my man
I love the fact that RL describes Travis in a good light, and then compares him to David fucking Brent. Good Stuff. You two are great, you should work together more often.
From the way you described him, Slasher has to be Jerry Lundegaard (William H. Macy) from Fargo.
Who would win in a beard off between these two? We have seen Thooorin reach some sort of Dwarf status with his bear but Richard is an unknown. I think we should have a beard off. On another note this should be fun!!
Incredible how long these two guys have been around in eSports
I love how thorin pretty much tricked Richard into saying all these things about others in the end, not in a bad way, just really interesting XD
Reflections with lpkane plz
L2GG lol
Thooorin dooo it would be legendary
+Thooorin thorin reads comments?
Oh dear, that David Brent reference of Travis will really spark something now......despite it being so relevant and quite true
You should do more with RL
Great job. It's awesome to see how you guys cut the crap and talk real shit. You guys should do more content together.
Reflections with Destiny plz
that would be third world
dis is gr8 i r8 8/8 m8
you realize destiny hates thoorin right ? XD
FL destiny doesnt hate thooorin, its the other way around, if anything destiny feels he owes thoorin.
FL u 8 the b8
How can someone dislike tb? Honest question
It's so strange to see both of you in one video.
Regarding the Alias topic:
Icefrog would be a good example I think.
People on here act like they have never been in the same video with each other before
best reddit rant for a good while there richard! :D
what RL says is pretty scary... the "hi i was a fan of your work until THIS was said and now i hate you and... blah blah blah"
pretty accurate statement but a lot of people like myself stop before hitting that level ;3
and recently (past few months) thoorin has come out with quite a few statements that i agree with and have made me a good fan of his already
to clarify,i mean stopping before it hits the fanatical crusading part*
(still hate nightblue and dont watch his stream)
To be fair, RL has a very hard time accepting criticism and most of the people he call stalkers are simply ones who dare disagree with him. For someone who has no fear of calling people out, he is surprisingly thin skinned when someone does the same thing.
I like how Richard describes being polite as "appealing to the lowest common denominator." This really is a bizarro inversion that only he could come up with.
+redetrigan do you actually think that or are you trolling
That Ongamers story is hilarious
Thorin actually said no to letting Richard joining on gamers
No shit? Whats your point?
+DefiableRiffs I've already stated my point. Why are you triggered?
really good vid
Months later, he gots job offers at places like CNN as what was it, an esports writer or something? Again, more confirmation that he wasn't a "toxic asset" that can't be worked with like to keep telling him he is. Real happy for him
Holy fucking shit 2 of my favorite people on the internet together is this real life?
"This should be FUNNNN" - Christoph Waltz
REflections with allu plsplspls!
Richard Lewis sounds like a fun guy like Thorin. You got my view from this Richard. Buy Duncan a drink or something. lol
Would Duncan be like the G-man from Half life? You know, allways watching and being there, not saying much but with the ability to say the right thing and then just control everyone?
get richard lewis on summoning insight
I'd love a Thooorin and Richard Lewis csgo series like Summoning Insight
Thooorin with Richard, the earth may explode!
fuckin 'ell mate, so much amazing in one video. I nearly shat myself.
"The motherfucker forgot the good news!" Even tho it sucked for you at the time, afterwards it´s hilarious :D
A new show "The Evil Geniuses" with R lewis and Thooorin
1:34:12
yh just b urself m8 :)
Yuuuuuusssss
thorin is like cartman
Holy fuck... Dis gotta be good
Well ain't Daft Punk members totally anonymous ?
damn I thought it was new unfiltered
You two really need to do stuff together. It's just meant to be.
The power of no shame!
14:13 - RLewis in an abusive relationship :(
So much hair.
TB's brother?
More reflections Thooorin, pander to my whim.
I say Thooorin is Dr. Manhattan.
you should have Richard Lewis on summoning insight
There's no need to. This alone serves its purpose, and Richard's involvement in LoL esports isn't analytically based like Monte/Thorin.
He sounds like Ali G
damn that ending lol. not a fan of closing statements are you thooorin?
Allu next ;)
thoorin is the riddler
kappa
Viking thoorin
