A Community Of DIY Skate Projects | GREETINGS FROM: GLASGOW

- A bluesy and soulful place with a historically resourceful and independently-minded skate scene (one great early example of which was the success of Clan Skates’ locally-sourced Poizone clothing label of thirty years ago), Glasgow’s skate scene has a feel and energy all of its own.
Jamie Foy, Margie Didal and Jake Wooten meet the locals behind the many DIY skate projects which have filled a physical and cultural gap left by an ambivalent local council, and discover how a skate scene survives partially undercover in a country where rain is alas no stranger.
Among the total dons our crew linked up with in Glasgow is Danny Aubrey, who runs an ingenious workshop call re:ply Skateboards which is focused on sustainability within skateboard manufacture by ending waste, via re-shaping and up-cycling worn boards.
He has personally rescued thousands of skateboards, raised good money for skateboarding non-profit organisations and given a platform to more than 50 artists- all from a business started in a garage back in 2010. That is a Glasgow story.
A hundred such salvaged boards were donated to the local scene as part of this project.
Hear Danny’s and a host of other Greetings From Glasgow tales as we roll out with the skate scene of ‘No Mean City’!

Good to see us Scottish skaters getting a highlight, great wee video.
This was so great. Am Canadian but I lived in Scotland for a few months in 1996 and will never forget the hospitality of guys like Colin Kennedy, Singapore Sid, Rab, and others - you're all old farts like me, and not sure if you're still skating, but just wanted to say thanks for that, still cherish those memories and skating around all the spots in Glasgow and Edinburgh. Stoked also to see all these great skaters and DIY spots, nowadays, the scene is clearly alive and well. Long live Scottish crust!
Thats amazing man, i’m from Canada too and used to go over a bunch between 93-97 to skate with the Bristo locals, check my videos I have a couple montages of all my old footage. I love Scotland and the scene was so good there those guys still feel like brothers after all these years.
@@skatechatham small world, brother! I just checked out some your vids. That Bristol Square footage is pure nostalgia. Pretty rad you still have it!
Great to see the scene I grew up in still going strong. And some old friends from back then still involved.
So happy to be featured in the video, thank you for bringing light to our city, god knows we needed it
Sick. Glad to see all my fav spots represented!
So good to see kingston and the loading bay getting shredded

You heard the man, get him a trip back to get clips lol
Probably gonna run my exchange semester in glasgow. Looking forward to it's skate culture.
The GSS is unreal. Always a brilliant vibe skating in Glasgow.
hell yeah! surprised you made it up north :)))) so rad
As a Rollerblader from Scotland who spent a world of my youth at Edinburgh Street spots this is amazing to see. I love a skate park but nothing compares to pulling strips of plastics off yourself after some rough street terrain!
DBC..DAILY Blessings Coming!... Thank You ALL for Everything, Everyday!! I ALWAYS LOVE SKATEBOARDING! other stuff too, Not Just Skateboarding, but that's where I got my start.... Never became successful in Life, but LEARNING TO NEVER GIVE UP! EVERYTHING in LIFE is Hard!!
There is a lot of gallery and skate spots to contribute from landing different basic tricks, special tricks, and a good footage of combining all these tricks into a line of a great talent!
This was amazing to watch. getting back into skateboarding again I really miss it.
This just reminded me of my old roommate in Australia, he was Scottish and he was pretty hard to understand after a couple drinks. Looks like a sick scene, I live in Portland now and can appreciate some crusty spots.
So rad. Looks like such a fun scene with so much variety of the spots
Very good vibes!
We've had no less than 12 D.I.Y spots where I'm from, all shut down and destroyed almost immediately. They have given us two skateparks. Both with one pre-fab quarter pipe and a hip (only one is skateable) and that's it. Big shout out to Pensacola FL for hating skating and never letting us forget that.
turn the pre fab parks into diy
So cool Im from Glasgow and I skate, unreal to see all the faces you see at the parks in this video. Dope
Exactly, I was surprised to see ricey
So Fresh 🤩🤩🛹💪
Hell Yeah! I moved to Scotland in 2011 but all I got was a decade of congestive heart failure! Never got to skate!
Skateboarding is blowing up.. just now.. everyone keep the stoke because this is still only the beginning
