Step inside a flourishing UK skate scene | GREETINGS FROM: MANCHESTER

- England’s cultural juggernaut of a city makes for one of the country’s most interesting skate scenes precisely because it has got so much going against it.
Despite a central architecture that reflects the city’s previous importance to the cotton trade- meaning New York-style tall buildings and relatively narrow streets (the cotton was moved by boats), Manchester’s skate scene has not only survived council bans and inclement weather, but is absolutely flourishing right now.
As Eddie Belvedere notes during the episode: “It’s just constant- it’s just growth, man- it’s never going to stop, I don’t think.”
One of the fastest-growing parts of the Manchester scene is the number of girls skating right now, so we were delighted to bring Margie Didal to skate the city for that reason, particularly.
As she said afterwards: “I was surprised when we got to Manchester, because it was gnarly- big skate scene, especially the women’s scene. It rains from June to December in the Philippines- so indoor parks like in Manchester are super cool.”
We brought Margie, Jake Wooten and Jamie Foy to session with the great and good of Manchester skateboarding, including Lewis Threadgold of the history-logging Manchestalgia Instagram account, so that we could all learn about what is going on within the skate scene in one of the UK’s most character-filled cities, today.
Manchester: so much to answer for!

I used to chill in Manchester Town while they were filming this video and it's what finally got me into skating
Manchester is great to skate. I use to skate there in the early noughties. Was about 40 minute train journey from where I lived. Just finding random spots and skating the park under the bridge.
Manchester skatespot always contributed to skating around the spots of all destinations and different streets spots to developing a successful skater in Manchester, United Kingdom!
Thanks for putting UK music in the UK video.
I’m learning that UK got one of the sickest skate scenes
Epic video! RIP Gasworks and The Kerbs! So many new brilliant spots though!
Municipalities around the world should be supporting and funding skateboard parks. Give someone a skateboard and you keep them occupied for a day. Give your city a skate park, you keep their youth occupied for the rest of their lives.

Its sad that mcr council havent built a couple of class street skateparks in the centre, wouldnt cost that much to build like the DIY ones, but they can fund millions and billions of flats and car parks and such. Ggs guys
