- So we have two Pioneer Arms AK sporter rifles and I'm taking a chance on this lol. Yes with a cast trunnion I'm ok with these rifles.......for now. All could change in the future but I'm keeping an open mind on this issue. I hope you all have been doing well and I want to thank you all for the continued support of the channel. More content to follow in the future.
This video is for educational purposes only!
Love mine! Over 3k Rds and not one issue! You will be happy with it.
Dude mine is running great. There's bad reviews, yes, but for the most part people are having good experiences with this Ak. Some people have 5k rounds through these, and pioneer tests these to over 15k rounds.
I can't wait to shoot mine, even ever that is. As well as my PTR-91
Have you like shot it back to back
Just a point … on many complaints the vast majority is operator error .. from pilots in jets to getting a blemished tv that beat it up when he was unloading or trying to blame it on other . I buy tons of refurbished stuff , people returned items because they needed batteries or didn’t turn it on .lol peace
@@Kay_Money-no2sp I still have it, and it's holding up just fine. I've shot this thing until the barrel smoked (several times lol). Gonna get the Hellpup next.
@@gergemall Agreed, I'm still happy with this AK. Gonna hunt Bigfoot with it next 😆
I own a bunch of Pioneer Arms rifles. They are built very well and have zero issues .
I’m looking to get at least two more in the future, one with a forged trunnion and one with an under fold stock
@@MontanaGunGuy I just picked up a pair of the forged blems with wood furniture and a cast underfolder blem in wood at Classic Firearms. I cannot find the blems on the rifles and could honestly care less if I did . The price point is outstanding.
I couldn't agree more !
I’ve ember had a problem with mine and I’m about 500 rounds in…I’m loving it
I have the Hell Pup and full size. Bought them both in 2018. $400 each. Never had a problem with either, couple thousands rounds each of steel case. Lucky I guess.
Dude YES!!!
I love the hellpup so much, I’m definitely getting the full size too.
Cant make up my mind between the two...is the hellpup that much smaller than the full size because to me it looks like it just doesnt have a stock
@@troysanders4206 The Hell pup is a pistol, no stock.
@@troysanders4206 the hellpup is the same size as a draco basically (not the micro draco) if you add a brace it will still be smaller than a full sized rifle because of the shorter(11.73”) barrel
You know, aside from big UA-camrs and some tests from a few years back, I've heard nothing but positives about Pioneer Arms from people who actually have them. And the last test Rob Ski did, the malfunction came down to the aftermarket FCG installed by James River Armory.
Same here, the problem I have with big UA-camrs is that they’re quick to jump of the bandwagon to discredit anything they seem is bad while prompting something that tends to be mediocre at best. I like this AK and I’m happy the quality control has improved.
I hope yall are correct I jus ordered mine n it jus shipped but I think I can pick up tomorrow I hope I get a good 1
@@mariovasquez7391 I love mine too, I got the stock synthetic
@@mariovasquez7391 you wont be disappointed, radom arms isn’t connected with IO anymore and since then their rifles have been great. My hellpup has 380 rds through it runs like a champ. Plus Radom Arms has a lifetime warranty on the cast trunnions.
@Sleepy Post yeah
I have one if these Pioneer Arms AKs. Great guns. And I say this as a guy who owns better AKs, and for a lot longer time, than the people that will read this and roll their eyes.
Great rivet work, finish, parts seem well made... don't sweat the cast parts, dude. This a semi auto rifle that shoots a intermediate cartridge, not a 300 Win Mag.
For the cash, you won't do better.
This is very true, Century has only gotten slightly better over the years with new variants and Pioneer has just released the forged trunnion model
I bought a BFT AK-47 2500 round later shooting amazing extremely accurate out of the box best AK for under $1,000 I paid $699 for it!!!
Mine is running great im happy with it
Bought my Sporter in 2019, 2500 rounds on tulammo and not one hiccup
Keep it going!
Great rifle. Running aces
The most important thing to remember when purchasing an AK, is not necessarily the brand, pass problems with certain brands, but maintenance and Care! Your AK should always be the dirtiest gun you own lol. I know that sounds funny when I said maintenance in care is most important. A dirty gun has carbon in it when you add oil and don’t clean the carbon unless it’s extremely bad you get the same results as a good graphite oil. That allows the oil to smooth off all those rough edges. So keep it dirty, and wet with oil. It should be the dirtiest smelliest oiliest gun you own
That actually makes sense.
@@mikemcintosh295 Mine is inside a climate controlled gun safe, when the dehumidifier, or fan runs you can actually smell my AK lol. When you open the door and hit you like a ton of bricks. I laugh when guys have these perfectly polished cheap American knock offs that jam every fifth or sixth round, then my good old Polishnikov from the Radom USSR factory in Radom Poland, clears a mag and groups 2 1/2 to 3 inches everywhere from as close as 20 yards and as far as 100 yards without a single jam or malfunction. I got a big kick out of it when they showed the 70 year old woman in the Ukraine being handed the exact same rifle I have magazine and all, then come to find out after she trained within the first two weeks she managed to take out six targets! They don’t need our help to shoot they do their job! The only thing you should do is exactly what I said let it get dirty keep it oiled and maybe swab out the barrel every 1500 to 2000 rounds as long as you’re not using corrosive ammunition! I will not shoot old surplus pre-1986 due to the ingredients made to extend the life of the round but will actually eat your gun from the inside out. So if you get a good deal on a crate of ammunition make sure it’s not dated before 86 if it is shoot it and clean immediately and buy clean immediately go a little bit further than a field strip
@@jimiandersonblackknight7554 I just purchased a Poland AK-47 pioneer arms Sporter brand new and after reading so many bad reviews about it was gonna go trade it in for something else probably worth less cause the people I got it from give no refunds but will let me sell it back for half of what I payed for it. Would you suggest keeping it an not paying attention to the bad reviews or just trading it in?
Thank you for your video
You are welcome, I'm glad you liked it
I bought my pioneer a few months shoot 300 rounds threw not one failure or problem guess I am lucky
No problems for me thus far
I have zero issues with all of mine.
Jra radom aks have lifetime warranty on their trunnions so
I bought one of these a couple months ago. I fired 150 rounds through it in one trip before I had seen all the big videos on YT diagnosing these things as "ticking time bombs" .... I'm just not sure how to proceed!
Keep shooting it just keep an eye on the rear trunnion and bcg
There's a lot of bad info out there . Pioneer has been addressing the problems they have had just like everyone else in the industry . Enjoy your rifle ! They are not ticking time bombs .
Mine happened to have shell casings stuck in the barrel after firing numerous times. I switched ammo and it seemed to help but however it still stovepipes quite often.
Might want to look into buying a no-go gauge
Are you keeping your rifle oiled and clean? And what ammo are you using my akm from pioneer are everything I put it in , I started out with expensive really nice brass ammo at first about 150 rounds I say cleaned it lubed it , then I switched to ammo like Russian Tula, burnal, WPA. Yea I haven’t had any hiccups ,also keep in mind I don’t really mag dump with it
If its steel ammo the outer layer makes it stick sometimes. Since steal is cheap i shoot it until the barrell gets warm then switch to brass so it dosent stick
I think ima have to pick one up off Atlantic aswell. I just got me a type 56 sks off their site along with. Cz50 last month and I love both of the condition I received them surplus weapons for. This ak will be my 1st new buy and I'm excited 🤗
I bought mine JUL 21 and the fit and finish seemed great. Been wondering about the long term result.
You will be fine . Enjoy the rifle
Tip of the day for people in California:
Move.
Montana in October
I’m thinking about buying this or the century arms ras 47 pistol, this looks a lil more fun
Hey man super interested in this gun. Any chance you can do a follow up review?
That’s the plan yes, hopefully next week
@@MontanaGunGuy Oh yes thanks! I'm looking into getting one, most say its terrible but your average consumer says great. I'm just so torn.
Haha, you're right about us "old" guys that happen to also be AKM guys hoarding 7.62x39mm ammo. I have well more than 2000 rounds of it, mostly Red Army Standard, Silver Bear, and Wolf, plus some Privi Partizan that I paid way too much money for on the stash. Y'all should move from CA and join us in VA ( about the most gun-friendly State ). I actually checked out a Pioneer AKM with plastic furniture and an underfolder stock. It was $700 price tag, guy said about $800 with taxes, etc... For that, I can get my most desired AKM ( because I really need a third, haha ), the Zastava ZPAP M70. Have you noticed mag-fitment issues with Pioneer AKs? The one I looked at was really hard to get polymer mags into the mag well
Hey there, I have noticed issues as far as mag fitting. It’s a little tight on some but other click in like butter. Other than that no issues thus far with anything mechanical
@@MontanaGunGuy That's standard with most AKs . There are different mag port tolerances . Very few AKs will take every mag known to mankind . Find it's proper food and feed it according. Sometimes just the height of the mag release alone can affect how the mag fits .Usually if a magazine will lock properly , whether tight or loose it will run fine .
Any links to that wood furniture that will fit my pioneer arms ak47 sportster thanks
Apex if they have anything left
nice overview how do ya like the ak so far? I am in san diego
I really like it a lot! It shoots very well and over all it’s very well build in my opinion. Everyone just gives it a bad rap because of the cast trunnion which I have no problem with. I definitely would recommend wood furniture, the black furniture feels very cheap and uncomfortable. Still very affordable right now through their website. The other thing I would recommend is getting a new recoil spring, I got a surplus Romanian one from Apex and it runs like a dream now
Mine runs great. 600 rounds no issues. Even bump fired it. 😂
Keep it going!
@@MontanaGunGuy 1800 rounds now. Still doing great 👍😎.
@@megaman010391 beautiful I tell you beautiful 😁
How’s is it holding on you? Thinking of getting the wood finished one
@@abrahamgonzalez8324 the new ones are forged so they might be even better.
Well the surplus rifles are drying up , what’s in the u.s. is it , when there gone there gone , the price of those won’t go down they will just go up cause there’s nothing left , those old surplus will never be imported again, usual the higher value ak47’s hold there value ,
So just purchased one of these … can anyone tell me what version of AKs these are compatible with ? Yugos Romanians etc.
They’ll work with any mag as long as it’s not a bolt hold open mag
And what about furniture …. Sorry poking your brain a bit lol
no worries, so as far as furniture; to my knowledge the only kind that wouldn't work would be the yugo stuff but I'm not exactly sure. I've never tried it
I just bought the black one , I want to change the wood set, wondering is all different brands ak universal ?I found some wood set online but don’t know fit or not, thanks
AK furniture kits are pretty universal, I’m not exactly sure if a Yugoslav kit would work but I love the polish one I have. I hope you find one you like
Is your m&p shield a 1st gen or a 2nd gen?
First gen
You're ok with weak critical parts because you are not planning to use it that much.. odd logic but ok it's your right without doubt
Exactly, since I have not desire abusing my firearms like others and take proper care of them; it should last quick a while
Alright so here’s the deal I’ve been getting with this company.... you either get a lemon or you don’t ... I didn’t get a lemon I wish I could show you a vid of mine throwing rounds down range , I keep mine very very oiled and wet when I shoot too idk if that has to do with anything but yea I literally soak it like my AR .... anyways yea lemons or no lemons with pioneer arms ... but I got mine done with original polish wood I love this AKM I don’t think I’ll ever let it go
That’s exactly what I was thinking because the reviews I’ve read say pretty much that. But it’s great to hear that company’s are actually listening to the consumers and doing something about their products. I love the furniture I just put on it, if I could do Polish I would but the Bulgarian was all Apex had.
380 rds through my hellpup no problem. Haven’t cleaned it yet. Eats whatever ammo you throw at it. Awesome rifles and Radom Arms is a great company.
@@La.Ron9 keep her clean ! Especially if ur using corrosive ammo!
AKs wiill run dry without lubrication . Alot of the time when AKs have fTf it's the mags.
What is that odd thing behind the grip. How do you even hold it.
I have the AK hammer fin on it, since I live in California and you’re not allow to have “evil features” on your rifles so this circumvents the state law while still being in compliance. The fin also has a thumb rest on the side
@@MontanaGunGuy Thank you.
@@MontanaGunGuy That’s why I wouldn’t live in Commifornia if you paid me , that stupid shit they make you put on your rifle is bull shit !
👍👍👍
you lost me at cast trunions. I own a lot of high end AKM rifles and none of them are cast.
They have changed them, now they are forged.
Thanks for making the video. I think it is possible to replace the parts eventually with forged parts?
It’s possible yes, the only issue is that the trunnion is serialized so that number with have to be transferred to the receiver.
So its been a year, how is it?
So far so good, only issue I’ve had is feeding but that was magazine related
@@MontanaGunGuy sounds like they are GTG
So where's the round count on these two rifles right now?
About 200 in each, had some feeding issues in mine but that turned out to be magazine related. Unfortunately haven’t been able to shoot it since January
@@MontanaGunGuy Too bad you haven't gotten to put more rounds through them. I'm considering getting a VSKA or PSA if I find one for really cheap, they both carry a lifetime warranty. I plan on getting a no go gauge as well to check head space every 500 rounds just to be safe. I'm interested to see how the pioneer rifles do, the company that builds them apparently uses the same cast trunnions in military contracts rifles. I can't seem to find anything on the Pioneer rifles coming out of headspace easily so maybe it's possible that they're usually a casting technique more similar to Ruger?
I know some cast guns hold up very well such as the M1A and most of Ruger's products such as revolvers, 1911s, and the Mini14. I think someone am design lend themselves to being more durable when made of certain materials, such as milspec AR lowers being very durable in aluminum but fairly weak when made from polymer, meanwhile a Glock does fantastic in polymer and yet again a standard 1911 frame made from polymer is very weak without design alterations. I think cast AKs might be a similar case, perhaps the RAS47 and others had very poor cast parts. I do think almost any design can have it's problems ironed out. For example the polymer AR lower has been made into a very robust design by KE Arms in the KP15 lower by Maky it a homogeneous monolithic lower with integrated stock and added thickness and steel reinforcement in critical areas. Cheap, reliable, safe, and durable AKs will hopefully become common one day.
Have you learned anything about the Century Arms VSKA? I ended up picking one up, but I've heard nothing but bad things about it. Wondering if its worth keeping.
I’ve heard that the VSKA from Century was not so good as I could have been coming from Century. I was able to shoot one while in Michigan back in March and for me it shoots like any other AK. Ryan I hope it’s a good shooter for you. Like I said in another comment, big UA-camrs like to jump on the bandwagon about a lot of products before actually giving it a chance. I think you should be fine.
I have one. No issues with it so far. There are multiple 5000 and 3000 round tests on youtube with it, and its passed all of them. People seem to only ever quote the Yeager video (of which, his were out of the initial batch they produced.) when they complain about problems. The trunion is machined from s7 billet, and no longer cast like the ras47 was. The only thing I don't like about the vska is they don't come with a side rail for an optic, or a place for a cleaning rod or bayonet lug; and the barrel is just 4150 steel. No chrome lining or nitride. With that being said, neither were the original sks rifles, Yugo sks rifles or yugo ak rifles. no one ever complained about those.
@@gottroubletactical that’s because the VSKA is “American” and everything else is made in the former Soviet Union. Glad to hear you’re having great success with your rifle
@@MontanaGunGuy even then. People seem to forget how long, and how many iterations it took the soviets to get the ak up to speed. They started work on it in 1946, and didn't get it to its legendary status with all the bugs worked out until 1959. I give century credit for the effort. Because we all know with a stoke of a pen, imports like the wasr can go the way of the Chinese ak's of the 80's and early 90's.
74 or 47 ???
The rifle is a 47, with 74 furniture on it
Kinda kinda kinda kinda lol
