  • Clive spruiks the world-beating marvels of Australian Telecom. In New York, he argues that too much choice is a bad thing and that it is "simpler" to be lumbered with a monopoly telco. In Germany, he boasts how Telecom is beating the Germans in the high speed race to install optical fibre (Ed: shurley shome mishtake?).
On the ground, the reality seemed different.
The Government sold Telecom five years later... only to reestablish it again ten years after that in the guise of the similarly world-beating NBN Co. Plus ça change...
    Broadcast: 1992

Interesting. He famously never did adverts in the UK (unlike every other tv star of the time, except David Attenborough.) I guess Australia Telecom offered him an incredible amount of cash.
