Room 411 was a real hotel room. The movie actually was filmed in room 411. However, in 2008 the Plaza was sold and half of the hotel was converted to apartments, while the other half remained a (renovated) hotel. Room 411 was on the side that was converted to condos. So while the room did exist when the movie was filmed, it is now gone due to renovations. Also, that is the Plaza’s real phone number when you use the NYC area code (212) instead of 1-800!

One of my favorite scenes from Home Alone 2 would be when Marv and Harry try negotiating with Kevin for his camera and instead of giving it to them , Kevin then throws bricks at Marv by accident while trying to aim them at Harry while he's on the balcony of a relative's apartment roof

That is great! Absolutely amazing! Home alone is truly my favourite movie I love Christmas love Home alone if ever in New York will surely visit these places. You guys truly made me cry when you handed the turtle dove to each other. Home alone is also really special to me when I watch it there wasn’t a time I didn’t watch it whiteout tears.

The Plaza Hotel also has apartments in it. The people who live there have their own entrance and lobby. The apartments are somewhat separated from the regular hotel rooms and I would guess have their own elevators as well. I think the 20th floor was only apartments hence the door bells. That would explain why it was inaccessible via the normal hotel elevators. Most likely the stairwell is always unlocked for fire safety reasons which is why you were able to access it in that way.
The lobby from the movie is the residents entrance , it's off limits to everyone except the high paying tenants that live there full-time.
