Sold all my pioneer gear when the prime 4 came out and never looked back. Run it in standalone mode with my 1210’s. I do use Beatport to stream and I also use my ssd that’s installed. Never used as a controller so can’t comment on that. Ace video as always fella keep it up 👍
These are the exact updates I'd been hoping would eventually come to the mixstream. I'm a very happy customer now! It really is a great piece of hardware for the price
I was a longtime Traktor user (like looooong time) and the entire point of buying a set of Engine DJ players was to get stand-alone playback and ditch the laptop. Also, bringing down the features to just some basics was to boost creativity through constraints. When they added Ableton Link, that was just enough additional flexibility to open up a world of sounds using external gear while still keeping the creativity-through-constraints mission. Love my SC5000s
with your comment on the Prime Go HID you literally talked from my soul!! thank you!! i have VDJ Pro, i have a Prime Go - please let me combine them Denon!!
Prime Go has really changed my DJing life. Have not touched my 707m since I got it. The limitations w/ Engine are easy to live with or work around. Any updates from Denon is a bonus.
Good update - I use the Prime4 50% of the time as standalone when I have a pre-planned mix and the other half with Serato when I know I'm going to have many open format requests - and I need to tag tracks and make Playlist on the fly etc.
Which pioneer do you have? I've been considering whether to get the Mixstream pro or the Pioneer DDJ 400 controller. I've heard some say that Engine/Mixstream isn't for professional djs, though, because it doesn't have a sound effect sampler. What do you think?
I bought the Prime 4 mainly for the mobility aspect of it which meant a few laptops less to carry. I use engine when out on the road but at home when streaming online I use Virtual DJ Pro as it has the option to VDJ.I feel Engine is solid and I have the unit since 2019 and never once has it crashed. Keep up the awesome reviews .
I like that reggae crate🙌 i got the mixstream and feel the engine standalone concept is great! Numark did the onboard dj wokstation with the Ipad with VDJ! Now it has its own software thats not routed into a computer with your personal email, google, email, photos etc etc... You can leave your laptop at home where it belongs lol The future is bright!!
I’ve only been using engine os few months since I ditched pioneer , I went for the prime 2 . I use it as standalone . I’m happy with it , I organise everything in the software then sync it to the ssd installed in the prime 2 . There are two features I wish it had . auto gain and the ability to play a track straight away while like in serato if u have a track playing and load the same deck it loads but doesn’t play Until u press play or cue point . So buy then u could have missed ur mixing point . this is where 3 decks come in handy .
I have the Mixstream Pro and I use it as standalone, but since the update I now use it with Virtual DJ, I’m trying to find how to exactly work engine DJ because I feel like I’m missing something and there are a lot of videos on here but still need to find the right one for me. I can speed or slow down transitions on the Mixstream Pro really well but I can’t do it when I’m connected to virtual DJ for some reason, and I would like to move the folders I use in VDJ to my Mixstream pro, it’s a learning experience at the moment for me since I just got back to the DJ world from using 1200’s back in the 80’s to early 90’s and the technology has really changed things up. Love the video and now onward to fish for more videos!!!! Thank you MJ!!!
I use a Prime 4 and I alternate between stand-alone , Virtual DJ and Serato DJ. As they continue to update Engine DJ it has become a lot easier to just use the stand-alone. I recently installed a 1 TB solid state so that I can have my library readily available without having to use one of my externals. But there are definitely still times based on the event that I am at where I have to use software because Engine is still not quite there yet
Torq was a beast. If I remember correctly, first to integrate an external finger trigger, before dicer, before cue points on mixers and players. I still have mine
The main idea of the Prime series is standalone use, for those who wish to move away from DJ software. The Go is the most standalone of the series (onboard battery) so it seems odd to me that people buy it then want to use it as a controller.... I believe Beatport/source and Denon DJ are working on the offline storage thing behind the scenes, so it will come at some point.
Just about to buy a Prime 2, Have a Numark NV and use VDJ. Ill be using the prime 2 as a controller to start until Stems and other features are available on the Prime series updates, will go standalone when confident enough.
Got the P4& Go mostly for the standalone features, but I really wish Go would be compatible w VDJ too. Also the on-board analysis could greatly benefit from auto-setting the cue-points and reverse loops, like VDJ does. If someone can bring that to Denon developers would be grand
Still having issues with corrupted drives, it's really gutting when you've put plenty of work into the loops and cues, and mixing wax still sounds poo on the prime 4. I tried my mates top line Pioneer all in one and I'm kinda jealous now. The libary/playlists are better in the prime series (bpm and key filtering) but the controls and sound are definitely better.
Would love for there to be bulk analysis for tracks on mixstream pro. I use SoundCloud and all the tracks are analysed as you see them on the controller and browsing! But with tidal you can only see that info once loaded onto the deck.
I got one last week but I know I've got the updated version because you can change the amount of fx I'm using compared to an earlier video where they never had that feature
Mojaxx can you test the Denon mcx8000 now that it has this upgrade. It seems like a very nice piece of kit for not a lot of money on the second hand market
I am using my 6000ms standalone with installed hard drive. Really missing effects. Would love to see online locker for Beatport and its a shame no key or BPM on tidal. Would love to see Traktor integration but not holding my breath. I am currently running send and return on my Xone 96 to my old Korg Zero 4 mixer for the effects.
I'm waiting on the first standalone controller to have an onboard Sampler. At that point I'll be the most comfortable making a switch to a standalone only experience!
My SC5000 units are in standalone mode 100% of the time. I have other options for Serato/Traktor but almost every time I want to mix, I go to my sc5000 players.
I’m using 4 x SC5000M’s, standalone with TIDAL connected but mostly spinning from USB’s. Have never really gotten my head around software DJ’ing so I guess that’s part of why I don’t use that functionality…
I have the Prime 4 and Prime Go. I use the prime 4 most of the time unless I'm DJing at small parties etc.. then i use the go, as i can just pick it up and go with a Bose S1 speaker. I feel the Prime series effects need an update sharpish to bring it on par with pioneers along with engine library management tweaks. Denon are definitely getting there though and I'm sure over time many things that we want will be implemented 😁
Hi. Because you ask i answer: i would use an Engine product (still trying to decide) for stand alone use ... hoping that this could be comparable to using VDJ and controller. I don't want to go with a laptop. I don't trust in it. So i would go only for stand alone use (except maybe to do some job in the studio). But now i have a question: i come from a Stanton scs4DJ, nice and small, but old, stand alone device. I was aiming a Prime 2 and i noticed it's now discontinued. I thought that (because it runs on engine) any update of firmware would have work on it. I thought that new firmware are for the software ... on any machine. But here you say that updates for mixtream does not runs on the Go. ... so you would suggest to go anyway for the Prime 2 o r to go for the Prime Go ? Is it a big cons if it is discontinued, buying a used one ?

Prime 4 seems so nice. Is it like Rekord box prefers USB 32 gig Fat 32? I have a very large library. I do all kinds of different events in different places.
