  • Hello everyone, got a different video this time that you might find interesting ;-)
    This is a funk song my friend Asterios Papastamatakis wrote and had the PLEASURE to play with him as well as the amazing team of Antonis Andreou, Dimitris Tsakas and my long time friend Mike Papadopoulos from Cerebrum which we jam some funk pretty often.
    Big honor for me to play with all of them, thanks a ton for joining guys!!!! It was damn fun!!!!
    This is take No 2, a few little mistakes but oh well....haha...
    Big thanks to Soundtrap Studios for their hospitality (again!) and to Dimitris Retouniotis who mixed and engineer the whole project (killer job brother!). Also big thanks to Jon Simvonis for taking the time to film this!
    Hope you enjoy it!!!
    George

      Winter Sun It's not only that, bro. In his DVD lessons he says that he uses triggers only live cuz mics can't get the bass drum to sound normally on such high speeds when playing on a stadium etc. In the studio he uses microphones on the bass drums, so this argument is soooooooooo wrong. :)

      Specifically talking about drummers... it's veeeery common for metal drummers to play jazz as well.

      ''Dude this is shit!''
      This drummer has no soul/groove''. Different styles demand a different approach, it doesn't make a black metal drummer less skilled than your groovalicious funk drummer.

    • @slayer8273
      @slayer8273 8 років тому +2

      lukeskywalker lets say it like this. In the late times of joey he was very sloppy and bored during live shows cause he was depressed and on drugs. But if you look at one of his performances before pauls death, RaR 2009 or london arena 2002 you will know why I tell you now that he was way way better than jay ever was. In the early times of slipknot joey was for real the best nu metal drummer on the world. And yeah, there isn't really anyone who is compareable with george... maybe nils dominator from dark funeral. hes also a sick dude blasting for like 20 sec at 285 bpm. Or trey williams from dying fetus

    • @mrkasaval
      @mrkasaval 8 років тому

      I can't really comment on the live performances... however we will prob have to wait and see when jay finally writes his own drum tracks for slipknot. I understand that clown wrote the drums for the gray chapter... Funny thing tho, I think Jays dad is actually way better than Jay...

    Mindfulness and meditation got George through this jam. It’s way cooler just for the fact that he is on drums.

    Not a big fan of his blast beat focused style of death metal drumming, but this thing right here. This man clearly knows his craft. It's his versatility that blows my mind.

      My friend, this is Jazz. Funk doesn't have Swing. Well, at least not traditional Funk. Listen to the Piano, The guitar, The Rhythm. These are all Characteristics of Jazz music. Plus, don't think it's Funk just because it says so in the Description.. Trust your Ears.

      Ilan Bronshtein So you're saying the person who performed this song is wrong?

    • @samtotheg
      @samtotheg 7 років тому

      this is funk ..or funky ...I get what nickster says when he says its not jazz ..lotta metal cats think this funk music and big band boring swing is what we mean by can he play jazz ..we think bop ..like the records philly joe art blakey max roach played on etc.....this is funk ...when i think of jazz i think of a bebop ..this is not close to bebop at all !!!!!its not bad but its not jazz .....or what us jazzers think when we say can he play jazz !!!!

    • @waterguyroks
      @waterguyroks 6 років тому

      I'd call this jazz fusion. It's definitely not straight ahead jazz/bebop but I wouldn't call it funk either. Funk is usually a lot more driving/groovy (this swings like Ilan said) and doesn't have so much emphasis on individual solos as far as I know, that's more of a jazz thing. It doesn't really matter at the end of the day since both genres have changed so much over the ages, modern jazz probably would probably horrify the bebopers of the 50s and 60s (not that that's a bad thing).

    • @ppmguire

    the truth is only metal musicians have the ability to play almost all kind of music because metal music is the most extreme music and requires a lots of music knowledge

      +Alex Papas Many metal musicians (not all of them but many) are the most closed-minded people along with jazz musicians. I've seen more versatility in rock/fusion players, just like Vinnie Colaiuta, Gregg Bissonette, Simon Phillips, Gavin Harrison. You can see these guys in many different situations where metal and jazz drummers don't even dare.
