The series itself didn't appeal to me, but she has such charisma. I first spotted her in the Poseidon Adventure. Going into it, I just wanted to see a boat turn upside down, but i was then turned onto one of my favorite actresses. Until I watch this video I hadn't thought about Pamela Sue Martin in years. What a blast from the past. I used to watch The Hardy boys and Nancy Drew mysteries avidly as a child in the 1970s. After she left the show, I can only really remember seeing her a few more times in other roles. Although, I didn't see the latest Nancy Drew project I think it's very interesting that she came full circle and played another character in the production. It kind of reminds me of Richard hatch from the original Battlestar Galactica playing a completely different role in the remake of the Battlestar Galactica series in the early 2000s. It's nice to know that she's doing well.
I discovered Pamela Sue Anderson from The Nancy Drew-Hardy Boys Mysteries. I loved how she portrayed Nancy. In the books she was described as intelligent, alert, courageous and very attractive. Pamela nailed this role. I also remember reading an interview that she did in Dynamite magazine. When she appeared in Dynasty as Fallon Carrington, I thought that she would probably stay on longer. The episode of her brother Steven coming out as gay was memorable because she was the only one in the Carrington family to say, “Steven’s gay,” as an acknowledgement and as a way of supporting her brother. After that, she vanished. The best thing for actors is to not wait for offers to come and just step out. Like the verse from the song I’m Stepping Out from his last album Milk & Honey, I think goes, “Woke up this morning. Blues around my head. No need to ask the reason why. Went to the kitchen and lit a cigarette. Blew my worries to the sky.” Another verse on this song goes, “If it don’t feel right, you don’t have to do it. Just leave a message on the phone and tell ‘em to screw it. After all is said and done. You can’t go pleasing everyone. So screw it.” I agree that the few team up episodes were cool. It’s good to see that she took care of herself first.

Great update on a favorite actress here, Dave. THB/ND Mysteries was another favorite from that era of mine, and I must say, a rare mistake on Glen Larson's part when he replaced replacing Pamela Sue as Nancy (for whatever reason). I admit with (some slight reluctance maybe) that I did read some of the Nancy Drew books as well as most of the Hardy Boys original series, which was probably not considered "cool" for our generation. Anyhow, recall "The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew Meet Dracula" two-part-er? A certain very well-known TV father of the 1960's plays a pivotal role here, but will leave it to the the viewers to to learn the rest. Pleased she's doing well -- I see we share many of the same charitable causes as well. Way to go, Pamela Sue!
I love her so much I believe I've seen every television and film project she's ever made including the excellent Our Time (with Parker Stevenson), Torchlight, and Lady in Red. I also loved her in the mini series Strong Medicine (with Patrick Duffy) and tv film Bay Coven
My all-time favorite actress! Such a beautiful face! She also did some pretty good movies, besides Poseidon Adventure, that you can track down and watch, especially Out Time. She was also funny on SNL, but they didn't give her enough to do. That was a great season of SNL, though. Thanks for the vid!
My fondest memory was a low budget film called the lady in red, made in 1979 with Robert Conrad as the lead John dillinger. It was on HBO 100s of times in the early 80s, I recently watched the dvd after about 20 years and relived those days. In 1980 HBO didn't sign on till about 3pm, then their sister channel Cinemax debuted with insiders joking calling it "skinamax".
I had collected 22 of the Hardy boys books, all the guys were reading them in the early 1970s, I enjoyed the show too. And I had Shawn Cassidy s records too. They were 45s.
I always had a crush on this lady. In The Poseidon Adventure, her character along with her character’s brother were only a handful to survive at the end. I actually remember her hosting SNL, specifically a skit she did with Jim Belushi called “White guy.”
Years after teh Poseidon Adventure Gene Hackman admitted he did the movie just for teh big pay day. The Hardy Boys/ Nancy Drew mysteries helped discover a few future stars like Stephanie Kramer and Vallerie Bertinelli to name two.
You didn't mention it, Dave, but Rick Springfield played Ned in the last episode PSM made of ND. You can see him in your video @ about 1:30. He must have impressed Glen Larson since he also played Zack in the original Battlestar Galactica pilot/movie.
Pamela Sue Martin and Jean Rasey were top-notch in their respective role of Nancy Drew and George Fayne, as were their respective replacements Janet Louise Johnson and Susan Buckner.
I had no idea she lived in my corner of the world in Idaho, til a high school friend of mine posted on social media that she'd "hung out this past weekend with my friend Pamela Sue." and it was indeed, Pamela Sue Martin.
I just watched Pamela Sue in 'The Poseidon Adventure' on New Year's Eve [which i watch every year] and i have that Playboy issue. I always thought she got fired from Nancy Drew because of the Playboy spread, [even though the pictorial was done way before Nancy Drew, but wasn't released until the show became popular] She was indeed a very beautiful and sexy girl. I remember watching The Nancy Drew Mysteries just because of her [and that combo show still has one of the best intros ever] I started to watch Dynasty when it first started, but it just couldn't grab my attention. She made a movie in 1979, 'The Lady In Red' which was a gangster piece and it is a very rare movie to find-i have it on a VHS tape i recorded off a movie channel back in the 80's, but i don't think it has ever been released officially in any format. Thanks for the video Dave and i hope all is going well for you.
I missed a lot of ABC shows in the 70s because an ice storm took down the tv tower.😐 But I saw an episode of the Hardy Boys on YT where the band Bread was on it. They were a great soft rock band of the 70s.❤
I was obsessed with the show back then, and I definitely preferred the Nancy Drew mysteries the best, but when they did the mega mysteries, it was even better. It just didn’t last long and it’s a damn shame.
Pam sat next to me in English class at Staples High School in Westport, CT and as I recall was very nice to me. She was voted "Class Cutest", rightfully so. I didn't know she'd gone into acting until the Poseidon movie came around.
I remember watching the Nancy Drew Mysteries in the 70s because of Pamela Sue Martin. I think you have a good point about the target audiences for the shows being reversed. I'd enjoyed reading the Hardy Boys books, and never read one Nancy Drew book, but enjoyed the Nancy Drew Mysteries TV show more than the Hardy Boys TV show from the same time.
Been a fan of Pamela's for decades, she was very popular and much in demand during the '70s. I stopped watching "Dynasty" when Pamela left and was replaced with Emma Samms, it just didn't feel the same. Thank you for these little informative videos on some of my favourite actors from yesteryear, watched your vid on Meg Foster just prior. Happy New Year from Sydney, Australia!🥰 🇦🇺 🦘
It's funny I enjoyed the Hardy boys more because Parker and Sean were so cute. I also loved Pamela too but liked her more on Dynasty. I hope she is doing well.
Awesome! I remember being a Nancy Drew fan at age nine and one of the episodes was titled "The Mystery of the Diamond Triangle" in which Nancy is flying a glider from which she saw a 1935 Auburn convertible disappear of the road. Well, when I was the 4th Grade 45 years ago, one of classmates decided to do a book report based on THAT eppie which was NOT from the Nancy Drew book series, though I wasn't aware of it at the time. So my classmate did her so-called book report, and when it came time for questions from the class, I had told her, in front of the entire class, that I saw the Nancy Drew episode "based on" the "book" she allegedly had read and that the car in the show was a 1935 Auburn because this girl had not stated what kind of car Nancy had seen vanish in her "report." So, I'm guessing that she had either forgotten her report at home (perhaps her dog ate it) and had decided to make up for it by doing a fake book report or maybe she was trying to be intentionally deceitful. Either way, I was probably responsible for her downfall in that classroom assignment! 😉😊
Because Shaun Cassidy was such a huge star at that time with two or three top ten hits, the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew Hour actually started to revolve more around the Hardy Boys. I was a huge Nancy Drew fan, noticed this in the second season and can't blame Pamela for leaving because Universal Studios did treat her poorly--like many women--of that time. I think only Lindsay Wagner and Angie Dickerson were treated and paid well. Like many children of the 70s, I read the Nancy Drew books and my oldest sister even had a complete collection of the 70+ books available! I too found the movie, My Christmas Prince, a special reunion! Plus, it had Star Trek: The Next Generation's Marina Sirtis as the trusty public relations servant to the Queen. Who can forget Marina's indignation at learning Pamela's misgivings that the loving couple aren't compatible! Marina's, "He's a prince!" made me chuckle while Pamela played a small town wife and mother who was overwhelmed at her daughter's choice of fiancé! Cute film and Pamela and Parker played against type i.e. they were no longer rich people whom the audience couldn't relateto rather small town parents with a business! It's good to see our beloved actors ease into the roles of parents as well as realizing that Hallmark and Family Channels still value them as actors! Such films are rewards in retirement for being America's sweethearts! Nice review! Thanks for reminding me of my childhood heart throbs! Oh, if my memories serve me correctly, Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries came on before Battlestar Galactica and Six Million Dollar Man, which was followed by a Sunday night movie of the week! Correct me if I am wrong! I do remember Sonny and Cher competing with Six Million Dollar Man!
I loved her in dynasty she was great as Fallon I was sad when she left the show but I do respect her decision to walk away to spend time with her family
PSM was asked back to reprise her role in Dynasty for the 9th season by new showrunner David Paulsen (he clearly was not impressed with 'that British gal' who succeeded Pamela). Alas, she 1) recognized that she had her turn in the white-hot spotlight and was more tha ready to move on; or 2) plainly saw that that drama series was on its way to oblivion and wanted no part of it. Glad she has found the life she wished to have, honing her craft but staying out of the spotlight just enough.
He never went to her to return. He considered it, but decided to stick with Emma when he realized she wasn’t fleshing out the character to her full potential.
@@Dennisanyone- Perhaps no _formal_ request was made to PSM to reprise her iconic role. But there have been cases where the original thespian returned, such as Barbara Bel Geddes on Dallas, and Al Corley as Steven Carrington for Dynasty: The Reunion.
Yep, I remember her in The Lady in Red as well. I remember it being filled with a great cast. It was kind of a hard movie. Gritty, graphic, definitely earned its R rating. At the time I was not sure if I thought it was a good movie. It played on Cinamax all the time. Seemed like one of those B-movies that played always in the evening and after hours. I need to go rewatch it as an adult and see if it holds up.
I have it on DVD in a double feature of Roger Corman movies (the other being Crazy Mama with Cloris Leachman). I like Lady in Red, thought PSM did a great job, breaking her out of the Nancy Drew mold. Robert Forrester, Christopher Lloyd, Louise Fetcher and Robert Conrad. Indeed, a great cast.
I have always remembered her from the spectacular disaster movie Poseidon's Adventure, where she co-starred with some of the best known actors of the 70s. She was really beautiful, and a good singer too. I used to watch and like her Nancy Drew mysteries too but I had forgotten she played the main character. Same thing with Fallon, though I only followed Dynasty occasionally.
I’m glad if she found her happiness elsewhere, but she broke my heart when she left Dynasty. I loved Emma Samms, on General Hospital - but Pam WAS Fallon.

I'm with you Dave! I wanted more Nancy drew. The hardy Boys were great but it seemed there were more Hardy boys episodes than Nancy drew. I didn't like that! I don't remember her walking away from it. Of course it was a long time ago too! Y'know so many of these ac tress from around that time seemed to have walked away from the spotlight to focus on more important things! In my book that takes courage! I applaud her for doing that!
The "Hardy Boys"-"Nancy Drew" mysteries of the 1970's were surprisingly entertaining, for the entire family! Both were not geared to just children or young adults, presumably as their book versions were, but contained enough adventure, comedy & excitement for all!? Television needs to have more "family entertainment", w/o referring to risque topics or sexual innuendo!/ Pamela Sue Martin will always remain the beautiful "Nancy", to me!

In 1980 HBO didn't sign on till about 3pm, then their sister channel Cinemax debuted with insiders joking calling it "skinamax".
It will be great if she makes a cameo appearance on CW's "Dynasty" reboot.
I had collected 22 of the Hardy boys books, all the guys were reading them in the early 1970s, I enjoyed the show too. And I had Shawn Cassidy s records too. They were 45s.
Loved those Hardy Boys books! Paul, did you have the Hardy Boys Detectives Handbook? That thing was great!
No, I didn't.
Love Pamela Sue Martin ! My goodness I never realized how much she looks like Linda Gray.
You're right. They look like they could be sisters!
I love this 😀stuff 👌
I use to have all the books! Great!
So cool!
If she's TV's Nancy Drew, Pam should solve her own mystery of what happened to her, LOL! Glad she's coming back. 🤗
I always had a crush on this lady. In The Poseidon Adventure, her character along with her character’s brother were only a handful to survive at the end. I actually remember her hosting SNL, specifically a skit she did with Jim Belushi called “White guy.”
Mid 80s SNL was quite delightful.
Years after teh Poseidon Adventure Gene Hackman admitted he did the movie just for teh big pay day.
The Hardy Boys/ Nancy Drew mysteries helped discover a few future stars like Stephanie Kramer and Vallerie Bertinelli to name two.
@@patrickfennell6372 Valerie B was on "One Day at a Time" quite before the "Mysteries"
You didn't mention it, Dave, but Rick Springfield played Ned in the last episode PSM made of ND. You can see him in your video @ about 1:30. He must have impressed Glen Larson since he also played Zack in the original Battlestar Galactica pilot/movie.
Thanks for mentioning that! I was sad that Larson chose to make Springfield's appearance on Battlestar Galactica a one time event.
I remember because fame in 1980 on General Hospital as Dr. Noah Drake and song "Jessie's Girls."
General Hospital rating at top 1 slot for 5 year with Luke and Laura storyline.
Pamela Sue Martin and Jean Rasey were top-notch in their respective role of Nancy Drew and George Fayne, as were their respective replacements Janet Louise Johnson and Susan Buckner.
Although I was born in the 70's, it was it was the late 70's so I missed all this good stuff :(
I was also an avid Hardy Boys reader who watched the show more for Nancy Drew.
I had no idea she lived in my corner of the world in Idaho, til a high school friend of mine posted on social media that she'd "hung out this past weekend with my friend Pamela Sue." and it was indeed, Pamela Sue Martin.
I liked the show as a kid.
My Nancy Drew was played all too briefly by Tracy Ryan in the 90's
I always liked her too! The Nancy Drew Hardy Boys series was a favourite! Pamela Sue looks a bit like Linda Gray does now haha! Thanks Dave!
Yep. They look like they could be sisters!
Loved Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew mysteries.
I missed a lot of ABC shows in the 70s because an ice storm took down the tv tower.😐
But I saw an episode of the Hardy Boys on YT where the band Bread was on it.
They were a great soft rock band of the 70s.❤
I remember that episode GJ!
That must have been in early 1978!
Thanks so much for sharing!
Thanks for sharing!
It was awesome to see her in T70s!
Agreed!
It's funny I enjoyed the Hardy boys more because Parker and Sean were so cute. I also loved Pamela too but liked her more on Dynasty. I hope she is doing well.
Nancy drew used to watch it all the time and the hardy boys but when Martin left that was it for me
woonderful show!! remem the theme!!?👍🥳
I remember having the Hardy boy books as a kid.
Thank you for sharing your memories Frederika27.
The older version of Pamela reminds me of Linda Gray (Sue Ellen on _Dallas_).
Personally, I liked seeing someone who shares my first name on television.
Makes total sense Pamela!
Pamela didn't care for the crossovers, and I agree with you, I liked them, oh well
I saw her on The Z Channel in The Lady In Red ! Very Pretty 😍 She was awesome 👌
I love her!!
Me too!
such enjoyable shows. :)
They are!
I loved her in Nancy Drew! She was a cutie!
On the weeks they didn’t Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew they aired The Brady Bunch Hour
I remember that! Of course, they moved The Brady Bunch Hour all over the place on that ABC schedule.
The Brady Bunch Variety Hour was absolutely awful.
I loved her in dynasty she was great as Fallon I was sad when she left the show but I do respect her decision to walk away to spend time with her family
Loved her as Fallon.
Loved her as Fallon. One of the best characters on television!
Thanks for sharing BZ!
I used to read the Nancy drew mysteries, but loved watching the Hardy boys…don’t think I’ve ever read the Hardy boys books 🔹Never missed an episode of Dynasty
Thanks for sharing Joy!
Pam. S. M.
I love 💘 in The Nancy Drew a long with H. Boys. I love The cross over.
To me that was the best time. At that ABC had 100% Great Show.
& the 80 s
I fell in love with Pam. SUE M. When she did Dyenas. .

Mucho gracias señor Dave
I'm with you Dave! I wanted more Nancy drew. The hardy Boys were great but it seemed there were more Hardy boys episodes than Nancy drew. I didn't like that! I don't remember her walking away from it. Of course it was a long time ago too! Y'know so many of these ac tress from around that time seemed to have walked away from the spotlight to focus on more important things! In my book that takes courage! I applaud her for doing that!
Great comments Mike!
good actress
The "Hardy Boys"-"Nancy Drew" mysteries of the 1970's were surprisingly entertaining, for the entire family!
Both were not geared to just children or young adults, presumably as their book versions were, but contained
enough adventure, comedy & excitement for all!? Television needs to have more "family entertainment", w/o
referring to risque topics or sexual innuendo!/ Pamela Sue Martin will always remain the beautiful "Nancy", to me!
I watched dynasty just to see Pamela Sue Martin as Fallon. She was the whole package.
When they replaced her, the show went downhill …..great actress.
Good Actress
