I had a key to that lab for a year ‘78-‘79 and was the only person who used it. I’d pick up paper and chemicals in Honolulu and bring them back to JI. I hadn’t done color before, so I taught myself in that photo lab.
The JOC, the center for the operation on JA. what a shame that was left abandoned. I remember that many discussion for free world took place on the second floor, conference area and the commander at this time was Air Force Colonel John Jeff
I wonder if these folks know enough To carry radiation exposure equipment, not to mention Dioxin protection. Both are there. Cleanup efforts were (haha) low bid contracts.
We actually did bring some Geiger counters and dosimeters with us. We registered nothing higher than normal background levels. In 2021 one of the contaminates we sampled for were dioxins. They were detected at slightly elevated levels in sediments taken just off shore of the Agent Orange Storage area. Just don’t eat the fish and you’ll be fine.
Had an amplifier and jammed in those areas all the time, no key required, and I even left the little amp there.

Wait, that container had both Dektol and Fix labels on it. Has to be one or the other. One starts the development process and the other ends it.
I wish the government would start some project there. It’s sad to watch JOC in its present condition. Oh well! The memories!
