You guys are so fortunate to have a family that obviously enjoys adventure, physical activity and straying from your comfort zone. Went through Southern Portugal pre-pandemic and though it had its own share of cobblestone, packed dirt, and wet muddy areas it was not as rough as the Camino trail. The difficult areas you showed though had its own picturesque viewpoint. Thanks for posting!

We found the Algarve pretty tough!! Although that's where our journey started so maybe we were just not to a very good fitness level yet. :)

Amazing trip! I think I still want to walk it but I love how you captured so much from your bike.

Your tour went for 5 months, how did you navigate the Schengen 90 day limit for Europe? My son lives in Germany and I’m riding there from Madrid in May but would love to have more time to fit more in.

I'm an Irish citizen so neither I nor my family accompanying me are subject to the 90 day limitation.

I am going to cycle from Lisbon to Santiago de Compostela in April/May 2024. Can you please let me know how the wind conditions (speed and direction) along Portugal coast were? Did you get lots of wind from North to South? I was wondering if I should cycle the other way around, from North to South.

When we made our way up to Porto from Sintra, the winds were only an issue on one day. Usually they blew in from the west, so they didn't help nor hamper us. They tend to strengthen through the day so less of a factor if you can start reasonably early. We thought it was great to arrive in Santiago de Compostela and celebrate completing our Camino.

It looks like you brought too much stuff! Was that the case?

We definitely didn't need everything for the Camino. We could have stayed in albergues every night and left the camping gear behind. But this was part of a much longer tour where we mostly camped so we had to have camping gear for 4.

@@pedalpowerfamilyDid you get the passport for the Camino?

      Sure did.

Did you bring tents or sleep in Alberges all the way?

    • @pedalpowerfamily

We did a bit of both. This was part of a 5-month tour for us so we had full camping gear, but when we were on the Camino, we mostly stayed in albergues. On this stretch, we camped in Caminha and stayed in albergues everywhere else.
