    I can really recommend the 3 day trip from Santiago to Fisterra. Best way to finish off the Camino, watching the sunset into the ocean by the Fisterra lighthouse.

    I did the Portugues (Litoral > Central > Spiritual) in September. The only place I had a problem finding a bed was Almenteira because it had only one albergue with few beds and it's privately run so it accepts reservations. I had no problems getting a bed elsewhere because I always stayed at municipal albergues which don't allow reservations and I was usually one of the first to arrive.

    I’d like to do this September/25 just before my 75th bday.
    Do you think it would work to do this in double the time you did, and be able to stay in accommodation other than the albergues without reserving ahead?

    • @SojournWithUs
      @SojournWithUs  4 місяці тому +1

      Hi Betty, glad you liked the vid! You could certainly prolong the walk as much as you want. We took some down days to just hang at the beach, for example. Biona (for example) would be a great place to spend a few extra days.
      As far as accomodation goes, we found that most towns we went through had an alternative to albergues - this would require research and my instinct says these would have to be booked ahead of time, so you'll have to plan out your trip and figure how many days you will stay in each town. Remember, if you don't feel like walking one day to make your next destination, there are often public transportation options (again, research needed). Make it your own journey.
      I would have a look at the link under the video (stingy nomads) and have a look at the itinerary. Look at the mileage fore each day and decide how you want to split it up. Do some research into the different towns and see which ones you'd like to stay an extra day or so.
      Let us know if you have any more questions, and Bom Camino :)

    So confused. So the littoral is the actual one that is right along the coast. The "coastal" route is different- on the map it looks like it doesn't go right on the coast so I assume you cannot see the coast as much?
    Did you get any thoughts on the central way and why did you choose anomther over it?

    • @SojournWithUs
      @SojournWithUs  3 місяці тому

      As far as I know, when we were there the "coastal route" was better signposted but does come in land a little at times. As far as my knowledge goes, I think with the litoral route, you just hug the coast wherever you can. As long as you're walking north, you can in theory choose your own way to do it.
      As far the central way goes, I can't speak to it as we we stuck to the sign-posted coastal route. I think at times we probably found ourselves on the litoral route (especially with the initial walk out of Porto), but just headed north and followed signposts as much as possible.

    • @jww1022
      @jww1022 3 місяці тому

      @@SojournWithUs ah ok! two questions- how far do you usually have to walk between amenities for food and water on the coastal route, and were there plenty of beds and choices for accommodation? if there were towns where it was harder to find these could you remember where they were? thanks so much!

    Compared to the Camino Frances in Spain, the Camino Portuguese is hopeless. Not enough Abergues, albergues not sign posted or anywhere near the Camino. • @SojournWithUs
      @SojournWithUs  Рік тому +2

      @@wgl2 Yeah I hear you. There's an increased number of "No Drone Zones" popping up, and we're definitely on board with it for some of the reasons you mentioned. There is definitely a downside to recreational drone usage, including the disruption of wildlife. When we use our little DJI mini, we do so away from people, because we know how we would feel if we hiked up a mountain for peace, only to be hearing an annoying buzzing sound. We also only fly for under 10 minutes as to minimize our impact; we try to be responsible and respect the No-fly zones. We hope that other drone-users are flying responsibly, but that's not always the case, so we are 100% on board with increase of no-fly zones, especially in nationalprovincial parks.
