I would buy one if it came with a decent sized ~2.5L tried and true inline 4, MPFI only, timing chain, hydraulic lifters, basically old school engine and a nice zippy conventional automatic, perhaps a ZF unit. I don't understand what these manufacturers don't understand about sticking with the tried and true formula, it's like they're sabotaging themselves on purpose. 5% or less of the population in North America wants to have to wait an hour for a charge, the rest of us that need to get to places are fine with gassing up for 5 minutes.

@CarCareNut 13:00 VW use rear drum brakes on all their MEB EVs because main motor is at rear. Like all cars most braking is on the front wheel, only ~20% is done at the rear wheels. With the main motor at rear wheel that limited braking is mainly done by motor regen, so rear brakes are used very little. Hence rear drum brakes is good choice, less rust and less service.
I am a loyal fan and friend of your channel, driving and fixing cars for 45 Years. I agree with all your points. I will add my DEAL BREAKER points. 1) low range (i have seen other reviews of highway range). Even at 60 mph, the range was 1.5 miles per KWH! They stopped for recharging every 60 miles. 2) Rear drum brakes. For a car that will require close to no maintenance, rear drum brakes is ancient technology. I had a Honda Odyssey for 22 years, and I hated the drum brakes! 3) The second row seats ARE NOT REMOVABLE! For a fun van that has a heritage as a travel/ camping vehicle, people would need to make the rear a flexible "cargo hauler" for camping and living in the bus. My old Honda Odyssey could removed all the rear seats, and have a completely flat floor for hauling anything in the rear. and finally, 4) The price. For a limited use vehicle (due to low range, and extreme size and weight), this van costs as much as 2 minivans. The IQ BUZZ does not shine as either a nimble neighborhood child/ shopping mall hauler, or long trip traveler. I hope that VW makes some changes for it to be a great multi-use hauler.
I was seriously thinking about getting one; but when the reviews started coming out and they all said the same thing; that the range was awful, I decided not to. For the price of this vehicle it should get 300 miles of range at least. Until they get a better drive train/ battery system I wouldn't go near it.
Great balanced review. They got everything right just needs an engine swap:) I wonder how much more range you lose at -20 C as the wind is howling outside!
and then it will go back up in price after it is like 15-25 years old used...it will most likely hit rock bottom price at 10-15 years old. The only way it wont increase after it gets like 20 years old is if VW makes a better MKII with better range, power train options, and round headlights .
@@fortheloveofnoise Extra consideration must be exercised when predicting long distant future values of BEVs. If you can't buy a battery for it or the price is prohibitive if they are available, its only value is a place to live better than rough on a bench or bus shelter.
I’m 1,300 miles into my own “range test”, a much larger sample. And. I live in a climate zone with cold winters - last week was mostly single-digits Fahrenheit. Additional context: I’m a six-year veteran BMW i3 driver, and I’m a defensive driver who is usually ~5 miles per hour over the limit and not loitering in the passing lane. Respectfully, your range figure can only happen by operating the car foolishly or ignorantly. It’s thirties Fahrenheit today, and I have up to 224 miles range at 80%. If you don’t live in far-flung isolation with no fast chargers on route to destinations, the range is fine. From central Pennsylvania, I can get to NYC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, DC, the ocean, etc, etc, without stopping to charge on the way. And, fast charging is becoming plentiful.
thanks for your introduction to thus vehicle. hope the engineers at VW look positively at your description of the vehicle., if it were Chinese they would noit immediately taken note of the critics comments but also appreciated it. This is the difference between Asians and Westerners.
Yep, they will drive a few months and resell it, telling how great it is. Meanwhile the family that buys one based on "the look at me" factor will be hurting with the poor performance and HUGE depreciation. How can anyone actually use this for camping with that lack of range?
This box is for brainwashed & gay people. No one with a healthy brain would buy such a hideous thing specially knowing what rubbish VW has produced in the past 20 years. That car just like the Mini are fashion accessories, just like overpriced handbags for women.
@@antiantiderivative The miata is fun because it’s light and nimble but EV would ruin the experience in a trade off for high acceleration and top speed which is not the point of the miata
Glad the EV mandate has been put on hold. I don't understand why folks think sitting waiting for this to get charged is cool. A small/hybrid engine would make this car appealing.
Hi AMD, I love your informative videos a lot. I work here at the port of Rhode Island ( Quonset) where the transporter ships bring a lot of these ID buses. I have witnessed the workers having problems moving these vehicles around in this cold weather. These ID buses seat around for long time, some of them have been seating since October of last year. Same as the little red Fiats 500e. They look cool though 😊
Love the review, you may want to consider talking about curb weight for EVs and how that may impact tire wear. The id buzz weighs as much as a standard range F-150 lightning at 6000lbs
I have a 2018 VW e-Golf, which is a battery-only design as well. It has a 34 KW battery and comes with a heat pump. There is no active heating or cooling for the battery. This is meant to be primarily a city-use car. In the summer, I get about 250km range. Heating the cabin in a Canadian winter drops the range by up to 50%. I park outside 24x7 so when it gets really cold, the battery is that cold too. Charging is slower then, but the car has always started except last winter when we hit -38°C and the 6-year old 12V lead acid battery couldn't provide enough power for the car's computers. This battery has reached its end of life, but it's still working this winter in -22°C...I doubt it will work in
Hope a review of the Kia Carnival hybrid is coming! It’s 4 cylinder turbo with a 6spd auto trans is so different than other hybrids, it needs the full car care review deep dive!
Will it be AWD? Hopefully uses a motor in the rear. I think being FWD with its relatively thirsty, but strong, ICE V6 has cost them many sales. It was a great opportunity to skim Sienna sales. Primarily because you can't find a Sienna to buy unless you wait 2+ years and then know that your patience was rewarded with having paid far too much for it. When I was ready, I wanted one, badly. A base. Told me a delivery date was 3 years away "possibly within 30 months". Then I watched Toyota add $5000 to its MSRP for 2 consecutive years. Which soured me away from Toyota basically. And couldn't believe how uncomfortable the front seats were in a new Toyota pickup in a showroom where I was testing a used (overpriced) Sienna. I think Toyota has relatively few vehicles that interest me other than I'd still love to have a new Base (no sunroof) Sienna. But I bought a competitor's. Toyota should be careful they engage in much more effrontery or they're going to lose even more once loyals.
Anything VAG group makes would be the very last vehicle on my shopping list. They are a despicable group of criminals.👎 Thanks for the review though Ahmed.👍
3 biggest problems with this vehicle are (1) price, (2) range, and (3) VW crappy software. Those 3 things make this a bad purchase even though it's super cool. Also, the 3rd row only seats 2 so of course it's roomy. And so folks know I'm not biased, I owned 2 e-Golfs and they were fantastic for what they are.
I would buy it if VW put a Toyota Hybrid engine in it. My local dealer has 4 in stock and they have been there for more than 6 months and still there. I might buy a used one when the price drops drastically and turn it into a food truck and vending machine inside a shopping center.
I own the 2025 ID Buzz and for AC charging I get 11.1kW all day long. For DC Fast charging I have seen values as high as 200kW on a 350kW charger. And in the cold.
When this was introduced I was so excited. The only draw back is the electric range. I hope VW can implement a gasoline generator system like they are displaying in the Scout. If this takes place take my money.
Ceiling mounted HVAC is usually less efficient because you get more heat at the roof of the car so you get a blast of hot air when cycling the AC system
When companies are not transparent with the product they make; you can guarantee it has problems. There is zero reason for a company to withhold the information you asked for. What you asked for is not proprietary and it would be revealed in a tear down
which is very funny because they disclose both in the EU market and is a quick 30 second google search away for anyone to find, its 91kwh gross/86kwh net for the battery and the unlaiden weight is 2599kg..
I really wanted this and the range and battery management was just too bad to move forward with it. It's 2025 -- Please VW -- Fix that and I am on board --- Oh well hoping they are listening and just maybe 2026 we get the range.
To be fair the target market for this are aging boomers living in La Jolla CA with lots of disposable income. Where I live in So Cal people are "freezing" when it gets down into the 40s at night haha.

You have to ask yourself: they put all this effort into developing this electric minivan, and still can't get the range where it should be. If you do it, do it right the first time. Don't purposely release a low-range electric minivan and then later release one with an extended range, a bigger battery, and improved charging.
You need to step into this buzz like stepping onto a bike. Left side, you step in with your left foot on the little step like stepping on the left peddle of a push bike, at the right side with your right foot.
The problem is VW has been plugged with years of building crappy unreliable vehicles that become money pits as they age. Their parts are expensive and for any extensive repairs you need a specialist. The last few years they put all their eggs into the EV basket and unfortunately, that was the wrong move. They should’ve been focusing on hybrids like Toyota, which are massively growing in popularity. The masses just aren’t ready for EV yet. Our electric infrastructure is not up to mass adoption of EV use nor is our infrastructure for EV charging stations in the technology just isn’t there yet to give people comfort on whether or not they can charge up their vehicles or where they can charge up their vehicles and if they can go on a long trip without worrying. Unfortunately, our infrastructure for EV charging stations is not doing good. There’s charging stations that are proprietary, mini or vandalized or don’t work or in Metro areas overused and it takes forever to get in line to get your car charged. Many people are afraid to charge their cars indoors because a lot of manufacturers have disclaimers that you shouldn’t charge your car in a garage. EV/lithium ion batteries have had serious problems here with catching fire spontaneously on ship containers, on storage units, and parking garages, etc. Even in Europe and some Scandinavian countries, they won’t allow EV’s on ferries due to the risk of fire and that’s countries that openly likethe whole EV concept.
Great review of this EV VW Bus. Besides the range drawback in Low High temperatures there is also the massive depreciation in EVs. Many dealers will not take trade ins either.

and then it will go back up in price after it is like 15-25 years old used...it will most likely hit rock bottom price at 10-15 years old. The only way it wont increase after it gets like 20 years old is if VW makes a better MKII with better range, power train options, and round headlights .
@fortheloveofnoise Unfortunately no, retro cars never go back up!!
@@fortheloveofnoise Extra consideration must be exercised when predicting long distant future values of BEVs. If you can't buy a battery for it or the price is prohibitive if they are available, its only value is a place to live better than rough on a bench or bus shelter.
In 3-5 years these are gonna make fantastic youtube mash up builds with 1990s tdi conversions.
Excited to hear your review of this cool cool idea. Honestly done and warts and all. But it does give us all a Buzz!
thanks for your introduction to thus vehicle. hope the engineers at VW look positively at your description of the vehicle., if it were Chinese they would noit immediately taken note of the critics comments but also appreciated it. This is the difference between Asians and Westerners.
This car is for “content creators”. As for regular family, a hard pass
I wish it would be an internal combustion engine vs electric… and 30-40k
I wish the Miata was electric instead of internal combustion engine, but you don’t always get what you want.
@ really the Miata? Why? It’s so small can’t put a large enough battery in it to get a decent range
@@antiantiderivative you simply MUST be joking....or stupid.
@@antiantiderivative What about an LS3 V8 swapped into a Miata? Now that's a car!
@@antiantiderivative The miata is fun because it’s light and nimble but EV would ruin the experience in a trade off for high acceleration and top speed which is not the point of the miata
This will depreciate faster than Zimbabwean dollars...
Ahmed, I watched other "car show" reviewers gush over the ID BUZZ. Only you give a usable, vital critique for this warm weather box.
Glad the EV mandate has been put on hold. I don't understand why folks think sitting waiting for this to get charged is cool. A small/hybrid engine would make this car appealing.
I don't own a car and can't afford one, but I could watch this guy all day, every day.
I own a Solterra. Same as bz4x. I get 250 miles range consistently except when bitterly cold. Then 200 miles.
It’s electric, so no thanks. That said, your CCN videos are excellent.
The older VW vans took forever to warm up inside during winter. So this new one is classic in that way.
Great review! Love the looks of it! That's it!
Seems like radar sensor location lends itself to getting hammered by road debris, etc. Figured built into VW logo
No interest in EVs, but damn this thing is cool as hell. Love the interior.
Wow well done on the review so informative and practical how you shared. Helps with the decision of buying or not. Keep it up!
Anything VAG group makes would be the very last vehicle on my shopping list. They are a despicable group of criminals.👎 Thanks for the review though Ahmed.👍
Exactly
Enjoyed the review. It's a cool-looking vehicle and I'll leave it at that.
Should have left it in the trash can
It seems like for all the trouble they went through to sell this car in the US, they could have found room for another 20-30 kWh of battery.
You are clearly mental
When this was introduced I was so excited. The only draw back is the electric range. I hope VW can implement a gasoline generator system like they are displaying in the Scout. If this takes place take my money.
Does the third row slide forward? I totally dig this. Ultimate Uber mobile for places like Miami, LA, etc. Needs more range though.
yes and the 2nd folds down so you can have a huge area for cargo once rear seats and shelf are out
@@OceansUnravel Thanks!
The Buzz Cargo has sold pretty well in Sweden. Lot's of professionals have little use for long range but more use for loading capacity.
Your range being cut in half below freezing is consistent with my experience with my 2023 Nissan Leaf.
I love your reviews. You are the best!
I wouldn’t call -6C celsius “extreme” ;)
Visted Sweden for Christmas, saw a few work van units of this van...they were already falling apart and looking 10+ years old from wear 😅
We are normal Ford, Mazda, Toyota people etc.. but we do have a 2017 Golf R, and a 2022 Passat.. and they are both very solid and well built.
How many miles on the golf? Carbon issues?
@@KrazyKramer The Golf R has 36K miles. Full synthetic oil every 4-5K. Most recently did 3 2400 mile round trips, and its been flawless. I should do a catch can, but I've read with very frequent oil changes, it helps prevent carbon buildup. Time will tell.
European passat? The B8 are real nice, an alltrack or 206tsi wagon is probably my next car.
@@lllateraluscareful with catch cans, had one and when it got cold out the water content in the can immediately froze and caused issues
With DSG gearboxes? Sell when these cars reach 60K miles. Run!
You have to ask yourself: they put all this effort into developing this electric minivan, and still can't get the range where it should be. If you do it, do it right the first time. Don't purposely release a low-range electric minivan and then later release one with an extended range, a bigger battery, and improved charging.
Great vehicle to buy used for cheap.
Real cheap
Do you have a hoist strong enough to lift it ?
You need to step into this buzz like stepping onto a bike. Left side, you step in with your left foot on the little step like stepping on the left peddle of a push bike, at the right side with your right foot.
I'll wait for BYD to make their version of this classic car. 😂
amazing review pointing out little details which getting in and out
should learn from the Japanese
When you opened the hood ( it made me 😮)
Could have been a hit with a gas engine
Not made by this terrible company
Fold flat seats in a minivan are second only to 2 sliding doors. This is an early 90’s minivan that happens to be electric.
Hi AMD, thanks for the review. I’m thinking the plastic door steps are to reach the roof cargo boxes, though not sure if you can attach any rails.
Wow im early The Buzz looks soo cool!
I love your video content 👍👍
They made it beautiful to look at. Did I mention it looks beautiful sitting still as well.😂😂😂😂
Need a Rivian review!
It better have big brakes. This behemoth is over 3 tons. Thanks for the video. ⚡⚡
28:45 You won't need to sit there for a 12 hour drive because you'll be stopping for 30 minutes after every hour of driving to charge it...
Great review of this EV VW Bus. Besides the range drawback in Low High temperatures there is also the massive depreciation in EVs. Many dealers will not take trade ins either.
Ford Bronco plz 🙏. Been asking for years
