पत्थर को पिघलाना
मयासुर, माया राष्ट्र जिसे वर्तमान में मेरठ के नाम से जाना जाता है, का शासक था। ऐस माना जाता है कि वह इतना प्रभावी और चमत्कारी वास्तुकार था कि अपने निर्माण के लिए वह पत्थर तक को पिघला सकता था।4
मंदोदरी का पिता
रामायण के उत्तरकांड के अनुसार माया दानव, कश्यप ऋषि और उनकी पत्नी दिति का पुत्र और असुर सम्राट रावण की पत्नी मंदोदरी का पिता था।5
अप्सरा की पुत्री
रावण की पत्नी मंदोदरी की मां हेमा एक अप्सरा थी और उसके पिता एक असुर। अप्सरा की पुत्री होने की वजह से मंदोदरी बेहद खूबसूरत थी, साथ ही वह आधी दानव भी थी।6
बेहतरीन वास्तुकार
हालांकि रामायण के उत्तरकांड के अनुसार रावण की खूबसूरत नगरी, लंका का निर्माण विश्वकर्मा ने किया था लेकिन यह भी मान्यता है कि लंका की रचना स्वयं रावण के श्वसुर और बेहतरीन वास्तुकार मयासुर ने ही की थी।7
रामायण और महाभारत में जिक्र
रामायण के अलावा मयासुर का जिक्र महाभारत में भी मिलता है। अज्ञात वास के दौरान खांडव वन का विनाश करते समय कृष्ण और अर्जुन ने मायासुर को जीवनदान दे दिया था।8
मायासभा
मायासुर अर्जुन का ऋणी हो गया और उसने यह वायदा किया कि वह उन्हें अपनी सेवाएं उपलब्ध करवाएगा। इसी वायदे को पूरा करने के लिए मरीचिका और भ्रम जाल में माहिर मायासुर ने इन्द्रप्रस्थ महल में खूबसूरत परंतु मिथ्या वास्तुकारी की, जिसे मायासभा भी कहा जाता है।वास्तुकारी के इस भ्रम जाल में उलझकर दुर्योधन भी तालाब में गिर गया था, क्योंकि उसने तालाब को जमीन समझ लिया था।10
त्रिपुरा
माया दानव ने सोने, चांदी और लोहे के तीन शहर जिसे त्रिपुरा कहा जाता है, का निर्माण किया था। त्रिपुरा को बाद में स्वयं भगवान शिव ने ध्वस्त कर दिया था।11
तारकासुर
तारकासुर के लिए माया दानव ने इस तीनों राज्यों, त्रिपुरा का निर्माण किया था। तारकासुर ने ये तीनों राज्य अपने तीनों बेटों तारकाक्ष, कमलाक्ष और विद्युनमाली को सौंप दिए थे।12
सूर्य सिद्धांतम
वास्तुकार होने के साथ-साथ मयासुर एक खगोलविद भी था। ‘सूर्य सिद्धांतम’ की रचना भी मयासुर ने ही की थी, जिसे स्वयं उसने सूर्य देव से ही सीखा था। खगोलीय ज्योतिष से जुड़ी भविष्यवाणी करने के लिए ये सिद्धांत बहुत सहायक सिद्ध होता है।13
गुप्त शिक्षा
सूर्य सिद्धांत को जानने और अपने शिष्यों तक पहुंचाने के बाद, मयासुर ने उन्हें यह निर्देश दिया था कि इस विद्या को पूरी तरह गुप्त ही रखा जाना चाहिए, ताकि उन्हें किसी प्रकार की प्रतिस्पर्धा से ना जूझना पड़े।14
माया सभ्यता का जनक
मायासुर को दक्षिण अमेरिका की प्राचीन माया सभ्यता का जनक भी माना जाता है। मायासुर को माया लोगों के पूर्वज के तौर पर देखा जाता है।15
विलक्षण प्रतिभा
