My reaction was the same when I found out Beth died. I remember my teacher read the first book and then we watch the movie and everyone in my class reacted the same as Joey. It was sadder when my teacher said Lousia really did lose her sister.
I decided to read little women bc Joey and Rachel liked it so much. It took months (it was so much longer than I thought) but it was so good! I loved it! And I totally cried when Beth died lmao
I love that Rachel says "because I wanted to hurt you"... cause that's exactly what Amy says to Jo when she's apologizing for burning her manuscript (in the 2019 film anyway, its the only version I've witnessed).
I loveed the scene when Joey comes to Rachel and says that "Beth is really really really sick" the he says that it was so cute. I love the expressions of Joey.
Stephanie Gittinger no, when she says she wants him to ask her to marry again, she also mentions that it wont be because she loves him, but because she wants to be loved
Yep. He loved laurie much more like a brother than as an equal. She was just guilty that she cant reciprocate Laurie's and almost misinterpret it as "love".
I've read Little Women so many times and I always cry when Beth passes away. The best movie version was the 1994 film with Claire Danes, Susan Sarandon, Christian Bale as Laurie and Winona Ryder as Jo. The death scene when Beth says "I am not afraid but I will miss you even though I'm in heaven" breaks my heart every single time.
Gewen I totally agree with you I also love the old version of the movie the latest one is good but it doesn't give you pleasure as much as the old one really does.
I grew up watching the 1994 film of Little Woman...it is a wonderful and near perfect telling of the book!! The scenes where Beth dies always made me so sad and I would cry for hours.
I figure Joey can read, he just needs something that will hold his attention right away. Stephen King books are page turners. In the 80s and 90s you didn't have phones and internet being such a distraction. He probably had to do some reading in school as well.
Watching this now, I feel that regardless of whether or not Jo was in love with Laurie in the book, Rachel believing Jo was in love seems incredibly nuanced. On one hand her comment foreshadows (maybe unintentionally) that Rachel will turn down Ross even though she’s still in love with him and he will marry Emily. On the other hand, it gives insight into Rachel who interprets the rejection of a friend’s advances as a repression of true feelings - which will prove to be the story of Rachel’s life.
Oh my God joeys face when he said beth is really really sick his face was so cute but it was so sad i wanted to givd him the biggest hig and tell him it will be ok love you
I'm a writer (for fun) and to this day, I have never forgiven Amy for burning Jo's manuscript...that's just beyond sister squabbles...my sister and I fought, but we NEVER would have done that. It's been decades and I'm still not over it...and I still wish Jo had ended up single but whatever
I told my brother that I cried when she burnt it and he asked me "did you cry when Beth died?" and I realized holy shit I didn't cry then but somehow that manuscript was more personal.
I just started reading Little Women and also wanted to listen to this book to learn the pronunciation of words and started looking for the Little Women audiobook. But I saw this video and was curious. Oh, we had the same reaction as Joey at the same time.. Oh Rachel you gotta calm down honey😄😁
Actually, the two "blanks" in the hallway and "All blank and no blank makes blank a blank blank" weren't in the book. But at least they acknowledged the room number was 217 and the boiler exploding at the end of the book.
Chandler really cares about Joey's inner child and protects him with utmost sincerity.
