Glad to see another one of these modern remakes of vintage sets! I know that the pre war state set, the 261E, the prewar inspired freight set, the prewar and post war scale Hudson’s and many many postwar items have been remade over the years but to your knowledge has there ever been a remake of a MPC era set?

Didn't know that Lionel did this in response to social media, it's definitely a good joke on their part and a surprisingly fast response to recent events. I always loved the missile launching cars, had one of the classics as a kid and recently found a reproduction of the "minuteman" version. I think they're a great example of putting more play value into the rolling stock.

In N scale, Microtrains had a scaled down, but accurate 3D printed model of the Main body with a resin casting of a deflated balloon on a flatcar as a kit sold back in April.

I was watching the video like man. This would be really cool to be pulled by my Lionel ES44 AC 1775 US army black camo locomotive and then lo and behold. At the end of the video you have one. I must have missed that. I didn't know

You missed the point of the original Target Launcher car being a rail car. The Target Launcher car would suspend the balloon and the suspended balloon would follow the car, being pulled by a loco slowly around the layout using Bernoulli's Principle. How about that! This works best on a loop of track but should not have tunnels, bridges or signal bridges that would interfere with the balloon hovering above the car like my present layout.
Thus, the challenge of the pairing the Target Launcher balloon car and the missile car would be to have the moving Target Launcher balloon car, with suspended balloon, drive by on another track to let the missile car and operator try to hit the moving target balloon. Much more fun.

I still have my original missile launcher with the Army barracks and the car. I have / has the ballon car. All are packed way as I get ready to move to SC. My brother, Steve and I must have used those items daily when we were small. Got mine from Madison Hardware. My grandfathers and my dad brought it home for Christmas

Goodness me - a grown man playing with children’s toys and thinking its good. Well its not good - its awesome 😂😂😂😂 I’m 72 and serious want to get into building a model rail set again just to play with one of these (before the Safety Police ban it for being too dangerous or Politically Incorrect). The the things we could play with in our childhood and still live to a ripe old age - where’s “harmless” (?) fun gone these days. Love this channel even though I no longer have a rail set 🙁

It only took a few seconds to take out the balloon. It took a week to be sure the balloon was not over any land area. If the debris killed one goddamn cow we'd still be hearing about it.

Lionel has the balls to have this made in China, Wow! Outer box made in USA, shipped to China for China to ship it back to the USA with the product. Tell me again how it's cheaper to have their stuff made in China.
A few years ago, I worked with the Chinese on an animated film. My team and I would draw the characters, and settings in the US, then send them out to the Chinese in China. They would turn them into animated characters and send them back to us. We discovered the Chinese animators were receiving the equivalent of a $1.00/day salary and a dollar for lunch. That pay scale for the Chinese workers could certainly convince Lionel to buy there and sell here.
