  • It is no secret that the stock performance capability and safety improvements in today’s late model muscle cars has been improved over cars made even less than a decade ago. Customers can now easily make 600, 700, 800 or even 1000+ HP ProCharger bolt-on supercharger systems which could mean sub-10 second quarter mile times.
    Well, the NHRA is listening to its customers and is instituting new rule changes to encourage customers to use their supercharger systems to their full potential on the track. Now let's get to all the technical details that we found from the source.

      Says the drag racing fan who grew up in the internet age...
      Use those Google skills to look up the history of the NHRA and it's commitment to safe racing and realize this is a complete departure from that....

      Modern cars are safer tbh so it was a dated rule but I can't say any change that seems to back step from safety isn't really a good one and doesn't give a good long term message imo.

      @@codymoe4986 use your Google skills to look up how fast a Tesla Plaid S is . Why would you make a requirement stand when a stock model car will run over a second faster then what the "barrier" used to be ? It's called growth . I for one think a well engineered car that runs 8.94 at 125 in the quarter with a 200 MPH top end is probably safe enough to run a 9.0 without a cage in the quarter.

    Going Low Nines which i have been, I'd definitely want a Cage going that fast, not just for the safety, but it will actually Stiffen up a Uni Body car really good, for a little extra weight. I put a 10 point cage in my 86 Mustang when it was going Mid 12,s Years ago, Was little Overkill for back then, but i need it now. Just wish i went Chromemoly instead of Mild Steel.

    I agree with the ten flat decision but 9.0 with no cage is fast? Are you telling me a new convertable should be allowed to go 9.0? Because I don't care how new it is that will end badly. But 10 flag for a modern hard top is fine. Any removable top or convertable shouldn't be allowed that fast with out so much as a roll bar. Sorry don't want to see people die and tracks close. If you got money for an 8k procharger you have money for a bolt in 8.50 cage or have it welded in.

    • @erikradzins
      @erikradzins 2 роки тому +1

      Convertibles can’t go this fast without cage. Even with the new rules.

    • @xaviergreer2072
      @xaviergreer2072 2 роки тому +1

      Well convertibles required a cage even before this rule was implemented so that wouldn’t change anything for a vert

    NOOO WAYYYY!!!
    Started building my first drag car in December.
    2011 Chevy Cruze with a well built Honda K20, sequential trans, and a Precision 80/80. I’m not rich so now with this news, I can order my Fueltech FT550!!!
    Holy hell I might be able to make my first actual fast pass when the track opens here in Michigan!

    NO WAYYYYY! Started building my first drag car in December…. 2011 Chevy Cruze with a very well built Honda K20 with a Precision 80/80 turbo. I’m not rich so I’m still saving for a Fueltech FT550 and a decent fuel system and cell buttttt now, I can use the money I planned for the roll cage, to put towards something that’s not a necessity like ohhh I don’t knowwww….Maybe ANOTHER Precision 80/80!

      You’re probably right. It’s kind of dumb anyways, I had a liter bike that would run 9.8’s and you just had to have leathers, boots and a good helmet. Some of the Hayabusa and Zx1300 guys were well into the 8’s

      Not because of the Tesla. Modern cars are far more safely built to a point than they were 60 years ago. Some modern cars structures are actually stronger than the 10 or 9 second cage.

    So old cars basically get a weight penalty? Great...

    • @saxplayingcompnerd
      @saxplayingcompnerd 2 роки тому

      Lol old cars are built like flimsy tin cans. Old cars have the weight advantage even with a cage. Ever seen new vs old crash tests? Its obvious how far they have come. New cars have hundreds of pounds of crumple zone structure.

    So 2008-2014 so a 2007 GT 500 which is exactly the same as 2008 and has the same supercharged HP and body has to have a cage. The mustang is single handedly the reason for this rule and they dropped the ball.
