- Liberty City is a neighborhood in Miami which is home to many African Americans. It is also known as Model City by the government and some maps. The area developed during the Great Depression when Franklin Delano Roosevelt authorized the Liberty Square housing project in the 1930s. There are numerous community centers, churches, schools, and culture in Liberty City.

Thank you for showing my hubby’s childhood neighborhood. He is pointing out buildings that no longer exists. The family home is still there. Just missed seeing it for you turned off 10th Ave onto 66th St. He loved seeing his high school Miami Northwestern!
My heart raced when I saw you had gone by Liberty City. I lived in Miami and never got close to that area... Looks calm now.

My dad was raised in Liberty City in the 40s & early 50s. If anyone knows anything about the history of that area... let's just say it was rough on my dad, his brother and two sisters being the "minorities" of that area.
The stories he has told me about that area... People think they got it bad now?

Well this was an eye opener. Liberty
city has alot to go for. Times are changing so there can only be room for improvements. This was an excellent bike trip AK 👏
Liberty City! My old neighborhood. Notoriously dangerous in the past, but has calmed down tremendously. It still gets ugly with violence from time to time, but nothing like it used to be. Some nights, Liberty City is extremely quiet so all you hear are crickets. Liberty City was at its worst from 1994-2010.
How is it in 2024?
@@mathewcarbajal3934 Early gentrification stages, so it has a ways to go. It still has gunplay & drugs from time to time.

@@mathewcarbajal3934 Yes & No. If you mind your business, you should be fine, but even then…Liberty City is the kind of hood (other hoods are the same) that you can be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Miami Police regularly patrol the area.
Yep I remember the schools was so dangerous worse than Lean on Me 😬 shoot outs in the hallway and all from middle school days all the way to highschool

It used to be dangerous before they decided to close down all of the housing projects scattered around the area. At 9:34 you stopped at the light - in the far right corner, those are the notorious Pork n' Beans projects (or at least they used to be). There were so many shootings and murders there that police referred to it as Afghanistan. Now as you can see they have construction fence around and they are building new apartments there for regular rent. City changed the name of the neighborhood to Model City to get rid of the bad reputation of "Liberty City" but now the neighborhood is getting decent.
Do you know if it's still dangerous in 2024?

Wow, had no idea there was such an expansive facility in Liberty city. No doubt the city still has it's problems but it seems to have improved from years ago when I occasionally worked the neighborhood as a salesman.
I just wanted to tell you that if you had've done this 10 years ago, you and your bicycle would have turned up missing.

13:05 Charles Hadley 😭😭 my old park had everything Allapattah elementary and Allapattah middle my old schools liberty City optimist football produced a lot of NFL talent use to watch every Saturday everybody chilling dont need to go get nothing to eat because we had the food truck chilling right in the parking lot early 90's around 93 to 2010 it was dangerous my guy trust i seen a lot been through alot lost alot of classmates to gun violence 😢 that park use to be dangerous as well but if you from the city you knew how to move

African-Americans built many of the communities from Miami Beach to Fort Lauderdale and beyond. DeSantis doesn’t want that history taught in Florida. But, we will teach it.

Not the true Liberty City. You need to show streets between 14th Ave to 27th Ave . And between 62nd Street to 71st street.
That's the area that FDR built in 1930s. That area is called " Pork and Beans". Do, that at night with a Police Escort.
The beans have mostly been torn down and replaced don't promote foolishness
Worked Liberty City in the 70's with Miami-Dade. You've pointed some hot spots back then. Haven't been there for around 20 years and the comments about taking a tour at night on your bike would have been good to see.

Did he say so called dangerous rep. Ah, you're lucky that it has calmed down. That are was an all black area. Now it's mostly hispanic like most places in miami now. If you needed an ambulance, someone had to drive you out of that area, and the would meet you at a certain street. I know this cause i lived there during that time. During the miami riots, police killing blacks, like they do today. Big time drug dealers lived in the area. Pork and Beans projects, and the Village projects were Very dangerous, Scott projects were in the area also. But a lot has changed, and most blacks left and when further north, all the way to Atlanta.
Why do we want to look at the school AK?

He needs to go shopping at the Winn-Dixie store. Everyone will be of one color. The Gas station at that location is full of Homeless Druggies.
