hey......trailhawk owner here. 69K miles. Did you change the gear oll, and transfer case fluid? Ive been to 3 places so far that balk at doing it, and even the jeep dealer twice hasnt called me back.
@ronyeahright9536 use 70-90 or 75-90, i have a 2016 jeep cherokee th and i just replaced the rear diff and went through the hassle of trying to find the factory gear oil, my dealership told me use that as an alternative and said thats what they use when they are out of that certain gear oil
You were smart letting go when you did because FCA discontinued the PTU’s along with the Cherokee. Now people wait months and months for replacements under warranty. And if it’s not drivable, that’s a big problem. People are resorting to used.
You can go for 2022 Cherokee Trailhawk. It looks similar to yours but it has been updated. With dealer discounts it is about 35k. Something else a little different but more modern and bigger on the inside would be Santa Fe/ Limited at 40K. A Mercedes GLB at just under 50 K would be an updated experience. Not the best time to buy a car. Let us know . Good luck.
Starting to look to replace my 17 trailhawk. Options for us are 4runner limited and lexus gx460. I haven't had the tranny issues in mine as they upgraded software several times. Very minmal issues.
4 runner all day long!! I have a Highlander. I would have gotten a Sequoia probably if not the Highlander because in this economy you need a bullet proof vehicle.
@@CarGuy11 4 runner!! My Highlander is from Japan.....193k with no issues whatsoever and still rides new. Only the auto tailgate quit working. But I can pop open the back glass window and reach inside....genius move by Toyota 🥸
I'm finally getting read of mine this week! I hate this thing. I wish it didn't have to be like this but this was the worst vechile ive ever owned. Trabs issues after trans issues. If it came with a 6spd id be ok.
ive owned my 2015 Jeep Cherokee Latitude that is quite similar to your trailhawk and have mostly enjoyed it for the 8 years so far. the thing i guess i am afraid of is the transmission going bad since my warranty is up. But i plan on changing the fluid to extend the life of my transmission.the thing with the transaxle is that u cant change the filter without taking the entire thing out, so im only going to change the fluid. surprisingly this vehicle gave me less problems then other vehicles i owned including a Honda Civid (infamous for durability) . I had to replace the PCV valve that went bad prior to its 100K replace date and the bumper burned out from the black contaminated exhaust. transmission was giving issues till i found it was a bad fuse that fixed the problem so i have been real hard on the transmission heavy hauling and so far not the smoothest transmission but still kicking it. if i were to upgrade this in the coming years ide probably get a ford expedition.
I own a 2015 Trailhawk with 170500 on it. I hear the Jeep Cherokee is an endangered nameplate going out of production in late February. I don't recall you disclosing a budget figure on the replacement. A full sized Bronco if you want to wait a year to get it.
@@CarGuy11 It is tough to watch Jeep, Dodge, Ram completely implode under the Stelantis banner. There really isn't a replacement for a V6 Cherokee Trailhawk.
Maybe Ford Ranger FX4? For a smoother ride you could go Ford Maverick but it's not as off road upgradable. I say I'll hold mine for 10 years. We'll see. I work remote. It will take me that long to wear it out.
I’m curious how in the world do you have a lifetime powertrain warranty? That would be a dream. I purchased a ‘21 model in 2022 and it came with 60k mile powertrain warranty.
Hey Car Guy! I subscribed to your channel. I just bought a 2016 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. I have 105,000 miles on it. Could I get your thoughts on any electrical issues you have had. I haven't looked at all your videos yet but I will. Thanks
Thanks for subscribing and yes you will find tons of Jeep videos on the playlist. Nothing electrical except the intermittent ac which turned out to be an easy fix. Congrats!
@@CarGuy11 Unfortunately I'm have a short somewhere/electrical issue. Service shifter light came on once then hasn't came on again. @ronyeahright9536 well I had my transfer case replaced after it took a crap on me at 65k miles. I want to take off out of parking lot an heard a loud grinding noise. Thank god I got good after market warranty an they covered every thing no hassle. Still darn good suv thoe I plan on keeping it until the wheels fall off.
@ronyeahright9536 it's a daily driver I would love to take it off roading at some point. An yes some shops won't do it because the PTU is allways on back order. Mine took close to month to get finished just waiting on parts.
I just replaced my 2014 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk with a 2023 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. The transmission is fixed and the 2.0 I4 turbo has more power than the 3.2 V6. This is what the trailhawk should have been from the beginning.
Its actually more of an 4WD biased vehicle. Even in Auto-mode, it has the rears engaged more often than not. If you want the more modern updates and don't really need to tow or actually utilize the offroad capabilities, i'd look into a Honda CRV. The 4Runner many keep suggesting still has ancient feeling tech and design, plus it is much larger than the Cherokee.
I think they improved the 4wd system on newer model years like yours. Mine would spin the fronts often before kicking in the rear. I would turn traction control off which would engage the rear full time.
@@CarGuy11 Actually, the guy that did all the data logging to prove how often the rears were engaged did it on either a '15 or a '17. I guarantee if you pulled the F10 fuse you'd spin the fronts almost every take-off. The Jeep is programmed to have the rears engaged for take-offs and then disable once cruising speed is reached....then re-engaged upon deceleration.
Issues with it or just don't like the way it shifts? Looking to buy a used2015 with 40k miles on it so not sure to do it or not since i read allot of trans issues... But again, thing has 40k miles so i guess if i take a test drive and its smooth it should be a good 15 cherokee, no?

@@CarGuy11 I did not have that unfortunately. I currently have a 01 Cherokee, so im still in the Jeep family just much simpler, reliable, and more capable.
It's all luck, my brother has a 14TH with over 160k on it and has had very few issues, never had tranny or PTU issues (never been OffRoad) retired and travels a lot.
