Not a great review. This is one of the best, if not the best, of offroad capable midsize crossovers on the market. All-wheel drive, multimode traction control, rear locker, 4500lb capacity, good style, plenty of cargo space, and good efficiency. The only vehicles that compare are the Wilderness Edition Subarus that just came out which the Cherokee still beats in the worst conditions. Crossovers are notorious for being "SUV-like" without having any real capability. You have to account for what a vehicle's designers were going for when they built the car. This is a crossover and a cheap one at that. This isn't supposed to have the "offroad prowess" of other Jeeps. That's what other more expensive and less efficient Jeeps are for. If you want a through and through offroad warrior, buy a Wrangler. If you want a crossover that can efficiently haul groceries or make a comfortable long distance trip and still actually handle trails, there isn't anything better than this vehicle without having to add a ton of aftermarket customization. The Trail Rated badge does in fact mean something. It means upgraded suspension and addition of reinforcements like skidplates. It doesn't have the capability of a Wrangler but, again, it isn't supposed to. The Wrangler is an option. It has ENOUGH. And the Cherokee Trailhawk does it with comparable efficiency of a Honda Accord. This vehicle is an absolute victory in what for most companies would be an impossible exercise in compromise. It's the best of both worlds. In a world where a "Jeep" (meaning Wrangler) is now a high priced toy, the Cherokee Trailhawk is the lightweight low cost vehicle that carries the original Willy's tradition better than the vehicle you seem to wish you were reviewing instead of this. Spend less time griping about buttons you don't like and more time looking at capability. This vehicle deserves much more credit than this review gives it.

Real xfer case, locker.....yeah it's a Jeep and is very capable offroad, more than even the new baby Bronco Badlands. Among its direct competitors it has no equal offroad.

100% true. A`ve taken it up the mountains and into deep muddy forests. And it does the job well. THIS is what the word 'CROSSOVER' should mean, and not your average VW Tiguan with some nonsensical 'sporty' looking 'R-line' body kit, loooong overhangs and on 20'' wheels + rubber bands.

Had my 2014 Trailhawk since new. Hitting 95k and we off road and tow heavy with it (4,000lbs). I think you got it wrong, this vehicle is extremely capable, including off road. You should watch the Easter Jeep 2014 video at Hells Revenge.

Hmmmm, you say it’s trash off-road, but didn’t take it off-road. Hard to be credible especially considering we’ve taken it on wheeler lake, red cone, Kelly flats, black bear pass. It has incredible off-road traction, but it does suffer in durability… still, it’s wrong to say it’s trash off-road and not a Jeep if you didn’t even test it.

Now these Cherokee trailhawks are pretty cool as I think it’s the only fwd based crossover to have a two speed transfer case and a mechanical rear locker now how cool is that? It’s awesome

Great review but absolute wrong conclusion. It’s got the Jeep brand DNA and it’s proven to be more than capable off road.

That trail rated badge does mean something. Anything with it can complete the Rubicon trail. The Cherokee trailhawk is an extremely capable off road vehicle only coming second to the Wrangler. You obviously have no clue lol. Know your product and stop with the opinion based reviews......

That 9 speed is an early ZF 9 speed, so that explains why shifting isn't smooth. That is why till this day the ZF nine speed gets a lot of hate, unlike the 8 speed which unfortunately is only designed for rear wheel drive cars.

My mother owns a 21 Cherokee and that transmission is AWFUL. It never shifts smooth, is it better? Absolutely, is it good? No way

I think early ones were geared so they wouldn't hit 9th gear until 80MPH. It was the first 9 speed installed in a car.

I do have a2015 Cherokee north and one of thee biggest design flaw is the whole headlight system. Very unsafe to drive at night especially in drewy winter rainy weather. Very hard to convert and expensive from crappie low wattage halogen to hid. Very hard too find brighter halogen bulbs, and if you do they are special order, mostly online. Can’t use leds on projector lens on them cause they are not compatible and throws off the computer and sends error codes and sometimes shuts your whole lighting system down.Very frustrating you are kinda stuck of very poor output lighting while driving at night. Especially here in Southern Ontario Canada 🇨🇦

When I was car shopping in 2020 I looked at a 2020 jeep Cherokee and the seat did not have the hidden storage. Not sure if they got rid of it or maybe just wasn't on the trim level. I was going to buy the car but they wanted 8 grand over list price In 2020 when they had enough cars and no demand and they were cheaper. I ended up getting a 2018 Chevy equinox AWD with only 9 thousand miles for $20k. I love the car and love that I didn't have to over pay for it

Man seeing your old reviews, you literally took the option of Regular Car Reviews on non wrangler products and just slapped it on this car. I get the feeling you came into this one with preconceived notions and just ran with it.
Based on testimony and some footage I’ve seen of these Trailhawks, they are worth off-roaders. Wranglers are fiat/stellantis products too, and if we are going to be honest they aren’t the best off roaders on the market. They just look macho and have image tied to them.
The Cherokee Trailhawk is a seriously underrated car, and this review did more to tarnish it than look into it and review it for what it is. If you’re going to trash it for being a poser vehicle, actually put it through its paces. Take it off road.
They’re are plenty of cars that failed at being what they were supposed to be; but I rarely see you trash cars on the merits you trashed this car.
