the algorythm brought be back again my man, and i swear i love that whole tangent you go on about how the crossover into genres and the fostering of hip hop and rap and street artistry allows everyone to experience it on a mass level. it might be the fact that i'm mildly lit but that hit me hard, because i'm from a tiny farming town of like 2k people in ruraul australia, dipped in bleach level of white girl raised by italians - and one of the first mainstream music memories i have is being on a long drive where we barely had ANY radio signal, parked at a gas/petrol station to refuel. i was mindlessly flicking through radio stations to try and get anything aside from static, and only one worked, and the song that was playing was just lose it from eminem's encore album. and through him, i went back and learned about dre and d-12, 50, snoop, nate dogg, obie, etc. and then the branching out just endlessly continued from there. so it's wild to think that the young people, llike i was then but with eminem, could be flipping through the radio and hear ed sheeran giving legitimate space for the rap and hip hop artists to be their authentic selves on tracks and be undiluted because ed respects the genre so much - and then learn about these pocket artists that they'd maybe never be exposed to otherwise.
and one of those more recent artists that this freeflow of musical access gave me was babyface mal, who's from my city but i probably never would have known if not for the OGs giving space for the genre to be respected and vibed with by all
