The original Poco, formed in 1968 had Richie Furay and Jim Messina as founding members. Before they started Poco, they also happened to be members of Buffalo Springfield who, as you know, also had Stephen Stills and Neil Young as members. And, yes, Jim is the Messina from Loggins and Messina. By the time this song you reacted to just now was produced the band had many personnel changes. Furay and Messina were no longer with them and neither was another founding member of the band, Randy Meisner, who went on to be a founding member of The Eagles. Meisner just died a few months ago.

The bass player for this band Timothy Schmit became the bass player for the Eagles after Randy Meisner left. Incidentally, Randy Meisner was the bass player for Poco until 1969 when Timothy replaced him. So, basically Timothy followed everywhere that Randy went, lol. Two great musicians

Poco was once jokingly referred to as the Eagles minor league team since they nabbed Randy Meisner and later Timothy B. Schmitt from them. My personal favorite tune by Poco is "Rose of Cimaron", definately worth a listen.

Rose of Cimarron is my favorite song of Poco's and may be my favorite song by anyone. Timothy B. Schmidt's voice immediately after the guitar solo and the very slight banjo as the song fades out are masterful. I inherited my best friends house in the Colorado mountains. In that house I have a handwritten copy if the lyrics of Rose of Cimarron which were printed by Rusty Young who wrote the song.

Well, I just had to comment on this one. Poco is by far the most underrated band in Rock history, IMHO. Absolutely my fav! Perhaps not for everyone, but the different styles and types of music they recorded is phenomenal! From country, to rock, to blue grass, to ballads, to acoustic, to a combo of all the above! This is due to all the band members writing their own songs and incorporating them into the Poco sound! Seriously, this channel could spend literally weeks covering their songs over the 20+ Lp's they produced! Absolute BS they are not in the R&R hall of fame! Rip Rusty and Randy.

They would also recruit future Eagles guitarist Randy Meisner. "Heart Of The Night" is their best song. "Call It Love", Indian Summer", "Just For Me And You" are other good ones by this group

The first time I saw Poco was right after this album came out, and they were outstanding. They were one of the pioneer bands of country rock, and this album was definitely a change for them at the time.
The lead singer of this one was Rusty Young, who kept Poco alive until several years ago when he unexpectedly passed away. As a side note, he was an absolute wizard on the pedal steel.
They have a lot of really great songs, but two to look into would be "Legend" (title song of this album), and "Bad Weather" (earlier country rock).
Needless to say, I'm a fan from way back. 😁

I hope you have a blessed week. 😀
I know you like songs that have great harmonies like this one. If I could make a suggestion, how about a band you've reacted to many times before? The Beatles. Jay's t-shirt reminded me of them. The harmonies on their song "Because" are INSANE. I'd say it's the best harmonizing of any Beatles song. "This Boy" is another great Beatles track with some smooth harmonies. "Nowhere Man" has some nice harmonies as well.

Hello, @robsquadreactions! I am circling back around from about a year ago when you listened to Jackson Browne's Stay -- many people noted that it's a two-part song and should only be listened to with The Load Out (the first part of the piece). Would you consider listening to this song in its entirety? Jumping right into Stay without hearing The Load Out first misses all the context of what Stay is about -- and I think you'll love what The Load Out + Stay is really all about; you'd love the set up to the story, and then hearing how the story completes. Hoping you'll still consider doing this! Thanks for your channel. I've been watching since almost the beginning.

If you want something harder from Poco, try "Boomerang", "Twenty Years" or "Drivin' Wheel". Sadly, Paul Cotton and Rusty Young are no longer with us. Like others have suggested, "Heart Of The Night" is highly recommended. As Paul once described it, "an R&B song with a pedal steel". And it has great sax.

Fantastic song. It always puts me in a mellow mood. Poco has many more to dive into and several people have already mentioned their connections to other bands. Excellent song! The harmonies and acoustic are so good. Their history has been describe by other below. It is so cool how incestuous the bands were back then. Many artists moving onto other bands to create other amazingly talented bands. This just further proves the talent of those bands and the artists within them.
