I feel so much better when my house is clean. I used to think of cleaning as a chore, but when I realized that I just feel more relaxed and less stressed when it's clean, I actually enjoy the act of cleaning.
i get anxious and don't think straight when my house is messy and the other way around when it's clean and organized and yet i can't hep but being messy all the time

when i'm feeling distressed and when i am about to start something big, i usually get into a big clean-it-all phase. having a clean space definitely helps my productivity. messy space get my mind messy too
My cousins cleaned my bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen this weekend; Biggest Relief to have things cleaner, although I do love my messy space from time to time.
Watching this video made me think... when I uave been in a bad mood lately or a little upset I'd clean, do dishes, take the garbage out & I think it helped me clear my head & see things more rationally after I distanced myself from the upsetting situation or person. Doing this kept me from reacting off emotions & making something minor into something major. There's a lot of truth here!

I love an organized space and I feel very satisfied when I finish cleaning my space. The only problem is that despite my best efforts so far, it reverts back to a cluttered environment in the matter of a week. I'd seriously need infinite folders and boxes to categorize everything. I need a bag of holding... with lots of pouches.
My OCD keeps my home spotless and organized. I also get a rush of satisfaction when I finish and see what I have accomplished.

Cleaning up and being in a nice tidy clean place, not only gives me good mood but gives me a more focused and relaxed mind. Something that i know about myself is that if i cant control my irritation level is because my room is not clean.

This would explain why I'm generally not a happy person. As for washing your hands, I've always heard that putting your body, or even just parts of it, in warm water reduces anxiety.

Entropy is a cosmic law that basically states "systems that have order and organization require the addition of energy over time to maintain that order. If energy is not added those systems that have order and organization will degrade into less ordered and random states". In other words if you do not clean your house it will degrade over time into random chaos without the addition of energy ( you cleaning it). You feel better while cleaning because on some level you are defeating chaos and entropy.

Personally I find that during a creative or productive streak my room and workspaces fall into disarray just because I'm focusing all my energy on that rather than being organised. That being said, there's nothing I like better than cleaning up after those few days and getting back to a nice and organised area. It also helps me to organise my thoughts so I try to keep it as clean as possible :)
When I clean it definitely improves my mood. I feel like things are much more ordered, free of clutter and helps clear my mind. So yea, in my case, being clean and tidy makes things better.
Clean area - less place for snakes to spring out of. Its evolution.

I still have my fourth grade notes because at the time, I thought I had learned some awesome, life changing material. Which I had I guess, but I never did need it.
I do prefer living in a tidy house, but I'm too lazy to constantly clean up, so my place usually looks like a battlefield.

I am somewhere in between with being messy. I can let mess build up and stress over it and then sudden feel the need to clean and square everything away

I like everything tidy even though my room is not the tidiest but it sure is clean!
I might have heard of people - who are totally not me - who got cleaner as a byproduct of psychotherapy. They say, they feel hapier now too and keeping stuff organized is easier now the clutter in the head has cleared up a little.
Can someone please run a study on this? I mean on how our environments reflect our emotional states?

When I get pissed off I know I clean my house or organize at work. Over a bit of time of doing so I do notice I feel a bit better. Distraction or exhausting frustration I guess.
Tbh if everythig is messy around me i just give up and go to sleep. If it's all tidy and neat, i feel like doing things.

I guess I must be creative then because most places I do work at end up with like 2-5 projects going at once. I do this a bunch at work when either i'm waiting for something, need more info to move forward, etc. The only issue is sometimes I do this then the boss is like what about ... and I do that then some other project gets forgoten.
I keep a lot of odd stuff too even though it's probably silly. I took all my notes on paper put them in my auto feed scanner and saved them on my computer I then store things there for like 10+yrs even if I probably will never touch them. I somehow expect in like 40 years storing like 50+TB of data would not be a surprise to me.

I noticed the entire comments section is commenting on the female host's appearance... for no apparent reason. I just came here to actually answer their question, I can ONLY work well in a clean space, I'm very particular about clutter and everything in my apartment needs to have a place it's supposed to be, my desk is always spotless or I would never be able to do any homework haha. :)

What about the act of cleaning up? I find it irritating to a high degree but other people find it soothing. Why do people feel differently about cleaning up? How does the way you feel about cleaning affect you? Do people that find cleaning soothing need structure in their lives or are they compensating for something? What about the flip side?
