- Calxiyn and Hunter react to THE AMAZING DIGITAL CIRCUS - Ep 3: The Mystery Of Mildenhall Manor! - This episode has Pomni and Kinger paired up together to escape the scary door, while Caine and Zooble have a... therapy session? This episode was not at ALL what we expected and we're still trying to figure out if we got some LORE or not. Could Kinger have been the one to make The Digital Circus? Is there something more to the idea of the afterlife that we see in this episode? How about the ghosts possessing Pomni's body? Is this all a metaphor for something that happened in real life? Join us for another reaction and review where we discuss, analyze and theorize about what's REALLY going on in the Digital Circus - and for our discussion of how unexpected this episode was!

I thought I’d leave a pinned comment instead of replying individually about this: Re, the memory thing, I understand that the people in the Circus remember the real world exists. But the reason why I interpreted them as having memory loss beyond their names is because no one ever talks about their families, their friends or anything else they left behind back home. I always thought Pomni didn’t only forget her name but who she was as a whole. But they still remember general concepts like the “real world”. Do y’all have any thoughts about this? 🤔 I’m thinking about this like Pomni doesn’t remember her name, her profession, or her life outside the Circus but if you asked her what a Nintendo 64 was she would know ya know what I’m saying 🤣
You're on the right track I feel like. It also explains why Jax remembers names like Agustus Gloop from Willy Wonka. Indeed, the only direct evidence of memory loss is the name thing. Kinger seems to have it worse than others normally, but that could just be because he has been in the place for a long time, needing specific triggers for those memories that are forgotten, but would have probably been with him when he first entered the circus, come back.
I can kind of understand where you're coming from, though honestly, did any of them have any reason to talk about their friends, families, and lives before entering the Digital Circus before now? Gooseworx did preemptively say, I think some time around the time the second episode premiered, that the characters do remember their lives before entering the Digital Circus, specifically to nip in the bud potential "criticisms" of "plotholes" that characters will start talking about their lives before the Digital Circus eventually, as is the case with Kinger talking about taking 7 years to study computer science in this episode. Also, I kind of felt like them being able to remember life before the Digital Circus was obvious by the fact that Pomni remembers the events that lead to her being there in the first episode (i.e. she remembers putting on a helmet before arriving there).
😊
I believe the creator of the show, Gooseworx, confirmed that the humans remember their past lives. Just not their real names
4:45 Bubble was talking backwards he said "I can't wait for all the children in the audience to get horrible nightmares from the monster."
Gooseworx reaffirmed on Twitter/X before this episode premiered that this show is *not* a horror show, but a dark comedy, and that this will be the only horror-themed episode of the show. On top of that, someone pointed out the existential horror elements of the show, to which Gooseworx basically said that if this show is considered a "horror" show just because characters go through existentialist thoughts, then Everything, Everywhere, All at Once and Toy Store also technically count as horror movies as well, which I thought was a funny comeback. :P
Fun Fact: the "eyes in the dark" sequence was animated by Joshua Palmer, AKA Zeurel, who also animated the credits sequence for this show. He and Gooseworx are good friends, and he also has his own animated show called "Monkey Wrench", I also recommend watching that if you ever get the chance to.
Lastly...
"Caine is an unfeeling robot"
They say while Caine is having a literal mental breakdown over the idea that the one thing they were programmed to do is something they actually suck at... Not that Caine isn't kind of an egotistical jerk otherwise, particularly how dismissive he is of Zooble's problems, just thought I'd point out the irony of that statement juxtaposed with what's happening in the actual episode.
Cane being the AI of the circus and forgetting what Zooble said because they Literally told him to forget about it, like a computer getting rid of that information as it isn't necessary [failing to understand human emotions and such] seems to fit well.
You could interpret it even further. If his programming is the reason he acts goofy then even saying you're probably not paying attention could have triggered the gag to make him draw the bee
@noremac7216 "Never mind" made him start the conversion over and make him fully forget he forgot past sessions.
"Forget it" made him forget the conversion(the convo leading up to "Forget it"), having him try cheering them up with the bee drawing and starting the therapy over
"Never mind!" got him to state he takes in info and never forgets but shows if he ordered will delete the info
Also, it seems to hurt the people pleaser inside Cain that forgetting the info hurts zooble in some way as if it's forced on him why he acts the way he does especially when that also starts having him have a breakdown
Me when I don't pay attention to what the characters say:
@@TFoxhound seems like a much more obvious solution would be that the mental breakdown was caused at the idea that he wasn't good at making adventures. I'm kind of assuming that the adventures are a prime directive of equal if not greater priority to safeguarding the people there. Not being able to make good Adventures would mean that he is inherently flawed, which causes him to break down
Glitch has said Caine is an AI. Also, the only thing any of the people stuck in the ADC don't remember is their original name, they still remember everything else.

I mean as much as canonically none of them are gay or straight for that matter Ragatha's VA does love shipping characters they even commented on how ragatha has multiple NPC girlfriends as a joke.
Might not be canon but its pretty nice seeing the VA interact with so many ragatha x pomni shippers and even saying Ragatha is a girl kisser at some point in a live stream.
I heard that when Kinger said he’s starting to think, it’s because they were in a dimmer area, and he got more sane the deeper and darker they went,
Also Yeah Caine is a simply part of a program, a gaming program at that, not even like the AI he himself makes for the adventures, with the specific purpose of adventures and fun so he can’t really comprehend certain emotional issues, and it’s been theorized that when Zooble said forget it, he took it literally did exactly as she requested and why he said “forget what”
Tbf we do already have Cain and Able placeholders: we have Caine and A-bub-BLE like no joke I think that is what they're doing. He constantly gets mad and even pops bubble on occasion.
I wonder if Kinger might've gotten in an argument with his wife and said or did something really mean and hurtful to her before she abstracted and the reason why i say this is because of when him and Pomni were in hell he said to Pomni cherish the people around you because you never know when they'll be gone in this world the worst thing you can do is make someone think they're not wanted or loved
So I don't think the series is a horror but the overarching theme of the show is existential horror. Episode 1 feels the most like a horror, because it's telling us that is the theme of the show, and thus left unresolved by the end. Pomni is forced to accept that her life now is real, and simultaneously not real. She exists, but her existence is a nightmare, no aging, no dying, no food, no drink, just never ending existence until your psyche fractures.
But each subsequent episode is a deconstruction of that existential horror.
Episode 2 tells us Pomni is afraid she will abstract and no one will care or remember her. Jax reinforces this throughout the episode by not caring about anything and endangering Pomni. Ragatha counters that narrative by constantly reaching out and trying to care for Pomni. Pomni sees herself in Gummi Goo as he comes to terms with the same existential dread she just experienced in episode 1, so she tries to comfort him by showing him she cares, and that even if he isn't "real" he cares about his friends. Caine destroying GummiGoo shows Pomni that the world does not care about you, but the funeral for Kaufmo immediately following shows Pomni that even if the world doesn't care, people do. Which is why her nightmare turns into a hopeful dream where they all reach for Pomni
Episode 3 expands on that theme of caring for one another, but dealing now with other horrifying things that makes one lose sight of caring for one another. Grief, paranoia, memory loss etc... The man in the tape loves his wife, but shoots her because of his paranoia, he became unable to show that he cared about her anymore. Kinger loves his wife, but between her abstracting (a death of self without dying) and his memory loss, regrets not showing Queenie that he cared about her, and is desperate to hold onto that final connection between the two in his grief. But in this moment of clarity with Pomni he tells her to show how much you care and appreciate the people around you. Once again expanding on episode 1 and 2 by having Pomni thank Ragatha and say she appreciates her.
At least that's my interpretation of it. That it's a show about sincerity and hope, in a horrifying world of meaninglessness
Kinger became my favorite character after this. Ragatha is close second
I always got the impression from the pilot that this show would be quite character driven. The existential horror elements that people have praised that episode for I never really got, at least not to the same extent. I really appreciated it more so for its uncanny vibes and aesthetic, which I feel have been well represented in some parts within these three episodes (I did think the horror elements in episode 3 bordered more on the creepy/uncanny than the outright horrific and/or existential). I thought the character elements in episode 3 were excellent as well.
My one worry is this show getting formulaic - i.e., every episode having an adventure wherein Pomni gets inadvertently paired with another character and teaches/gets taught life lessons from their interaction. I do hope that if each episode focuses on a different character they vary up the context within which the character moments occur.
Gooseworx DID say that 90-95% of this show's plot progression will be character driven.
About the “disposable” aspect, the adventure was made as a video game for the prisoners of the circus, and the entire experience was made to be entertaining to the prisoners, I think the point of it was to portray a cheap horror game.
goose has said this isn't a horror-based/themed show. although, she is a big fan of the manga, "Berserk," which is a very bleak series among other series she's gotten into.
also, i've been following goose since 2013 when Grant Kirkhope shouted her stuff out on twitter after his game grumps debut. i can't begin to express how proud of her i feel
omg the return of Hunter
This version of hell is actually pretty common and honestly more accurate to alot of myths
LET’s GOOOOO. You were the first channel I wanted to watch when this video came out. Haven’t watched the vid yet but I’m sure I’m gonna love it.
the psychological horror of having someone you meet disappeared in a 🎉 flash, being stuck forever and only having memories of past relationships.
To me the horror elements of this episode seemed more like it was there for the artifical sense of horror, but the main theme was Kinger slowly getting more lucid until he is able to properly use a shotgun (if you know gun handling & etiquette you can see the little details like him lifting the muzzle when Pomni walks by, using the according triggers for each round etc.) - and then suddenly getting confronted by a possessed Pomni over his wife.
Some theories suggest that due to the Digital Circus program is "for all ages" the horror elements of Cains storys aren't too complex because it's meant for both children & adults, but what the characters experience internally and emotionally is completely disconnected from that in terms of complexity.
We get the most classic possession scene ever in horror only for it to be followed by a heartfelt conversation about Kingers wife essentially dying and how you shouldn't take peoples care for granted while consoling Pomni.
The adventures are a set-up for these conversations and topics, just like Episode 2 where they have this goofy, very classic Wild West chase scene only to be hit by conversations about existencial awareness, dread and coming to terms with your own existance.
Also it was stated the people in the Circus don't lose their memories over their past lifes as humans, the only thing they cannot remember are their IRL names. That's why Kinger remembered "7 years of computer science" and his wife as well as her interests.
Kind of sounds like and excuse for mid zoomer horror
@@Grey-vp5db Tf are you on about lmao, I spoke about how the horror aspects in general to me seemed to be toned down to focus on the character driven plot.
I don't really care if the horror of Episode 3 was more Gen Z, Gen X or Boomer horror. The character's interactions is my main focus.
I liked how badly made the haunted mansion is, I think it reflect’s Caine. I think this episode is a completely different experience whether you’ve become immune to this exact style of jumpscare horror or not.
where in the world? Guys they are just stuck in a computer program, and the program is slowly going crazy because its not capable of really helping them at all, The abstract dont disappear they are all locked in the program cellar, we saw several down there.
I am so glad Cane is getting the Help he needs😊
The "Players" Remember their past lives before the circus, just not their names
You Forgot to Reach to Watch Murder Drones Episode 7 & 8 is out Now.
hey Cal why is the audio of you and hunter a little bit weird
I processed the audio more because people always complain we’re too loud lol - but Hunter is always too quiet so I had to boost her and squash me.
@@calxiyn damn that sucks cause I thought the audio was fine before
You may be the only one 😂 people complain about my voice all the time haha.
I want to know who the "he" is in Pomni's line "he just wants me to suffer." I mean, we're meant to think it's Caine, but is it? Kinger remembers taking Computer Science, maybe this is a pre-circus outside memory of Pomni's.
Are yall going to react to the finale of murder drones?
We were thinking to react to every single episode again + the finale because tbh we just don’t remember anything 😭😭😭
got very "horror snob" near the end there. Do we think that there are maybe different types of horror that appeal to different people? Also this show is really known for is juxta positional nature. So as you say the first episodes cute exterior has something creepy underneath. Kind of the same for this, it went more traditional horror as it was a Halloween episode but also it's main focus wasn't really horror, continuing it's juxta positional trend.
Calxiyn You miss ep 8 final murder drones
A comment for the algorithm
Excuse Me U 2 But There’s a New Episode Of Helluva Boss U Guys should do the Next Reaction Video
They made this episode because they dont want children watching this series
The irony is that Bubble's backwards message is him saying he can't wait for all the kids watching to get nightmares from the monster.
