Telling your child that life gets worse the older you get and that alcohol makes the thoughts stop and makes you happy is setting that kid up for a future of alcohol abuse the second his life gets slightly overwhelming
I learned the opposite because of proper education. School and TV Shows taught me that Alcohol leads to acting weirdly, puking, blacking out (forgetting things), etc. A drunk in the family tried to peer pessure me but that didn't change anything. So if the kid ends up with alcohol abuse in the future, it's not ONLY because of the bad parenting.
Why don't just say something like it's not healthy and for Kids it effects their development. When he is older he is allowed to Drink but should be careful because it can make him sick.
Third story: if you don't like hanging out with someone, don't hang out with them. But putting her through this embarrassment is outright mean and toxic.
@@aditya.t6489 theyve always been cruel tbh. theyre trying to find out how to be ppl 🤷 it was rough when i was a kid, too, but we learn. even reading stories from like the roman times, adults were saying shit like "kids today are worse than we were," so it's not new
Honestly, it sounded like a great time for everyone but her. It's still messed up, but man, I would have loved to be a fly on the wall in that scenario lmao. And to be fair, the poster isn't the one who planned that and was just a bystander at the get-together.

@@weedandghost i don’t think you know what pride means in this context. he didn’t want to admit he made a mistake, so he opted to try to guilt his girlfriend into skipping a wedding last minute. then, when she didn’t go along with it, he blew up at her and sulked like a child refusing to speak to her. that’s not called “having a spine” that’s called “being unable to take even the slightest hit to your ego”.
@@esobelisk3110 I couldn't imagine how you handle being wrong. Let me guess, you can't be wrong and never have been? Cause again she did actions to hurt him, he didn't. That story about calling a girl “fake” and tricking her into making a fool of herself really bothered me. As someone with autism, I’m almost always putting on a bit of a front because I’m afraid of embarrassing myself. I usually try to read the room and match the vibe of the people around me the best I can. Some people see “fakeness” as some kind of attention seeking manipulation tactic. For many, it’s just a way to navigate social anxiety. They were fake, and cruel to boot for putting her through that without telling her.
And let’s be honest, there’s a degree of dishonesty in every social interaction we make. I think we naturally hide parts of ourselves when we or others find it “unacceptable”
SAME!! I’m also autistic and have learned to act a certain way around others because it results in minimal embarrassment and criticism, not because it’s how I feel or naturally behave-which gets me mocked and alienated. I just want people to accept my presence peacefully. I can’t be genuine AND liked.
I wonder if he also had Angela on his mind when he did that...her reactions to the word update are my favourites and I want a Tommy/Angela episode soon. Tommy and Chanse are awesome together, Tommy and Angela's friendship has to be one of my favourites. Watch them on the try not to win for charity when they're only interacting with each other and not the focus. They're cuddling on the couch, playing a random game of Rock Paper Scissors and laughing hysterically. Angela mentions they went to the Barbie movie together.
You CAN explain why people drink alcohol to children who are curious. At a wedding last summer when a little nephew asked me I said something like, “you know how if you eat candy and it can make you hyper? Drinking beer can change the way adults feel too. But what happens if you eat toooo much candy? You get sick, right? and that is the same way with adults drinking and sometimes they can get sick if they drink too much. Just like candy isn’t healthy for your body, it’s ok to have a small amount like on Halloween or your birthday. It’s the same with drinking beer.” Then you can explain that beer and other alcohol shouldn’t be used by kids because it isn’t good for growing bodies just like coffee. This can be a good way to explain it to children without glorifying alcohol or scaring kids, and teaching about moderation.
All of my grandparents have passed now, but I've been the local nursing homes recreation dude for 4 years now. The relationships I've built with so many elderly people has gotta be in the 200-300s now. I find one of the easiest and quickest ways to build a relationship with someone in their end of life stage is to get them to relate to the best years of their life, the young ones. I've heard of all their party days, and they've heard lightly detailed stories of my current party days. Every once in a while I'll come in Sunday morning hungover with 4 hours of sleep and they absolutely love it. You bet your ass they're all gonna tease the shit out of me for being a young idiot. Anyways, that last story really hit. Very wholesome. Made me smile🙂
The aunt in the first story reacted the right way and did everything she had to do (calling everyone she had to, etc). That would've reassured me instead of pissing me off because accidents happen with kids and to know she did everything she had too would make me think my kid's pretty safe with her.
And im sorry but if your 9 year old doesn't know to ask if they can have something by now, you're not doing a good job of parenting. Because unless they're ND, they should know this.
@@mariahsmith2214 Seriously! And the fact that her whole family overreacted the way they did, something tells me they're the toxic and irresponsible ones!
Plus, she originally said that she had no kid stuff, her niece would be bored there. Obviously, the house is probably not child proof since it's a kid free home. It was an accident. That mom and family is overreacting.
The "pot brownies" one is crazy for them to do. Your brain can convince you that you're pregnant, like why wouldn't it be able to convince you that you're high?
Smosh should totally do a guess who's high/drunk/neither. Everyone does or doesn't partake off camera, and then they walk out in front of Shayne or whoever while he has to try and figure out if they are high/drunk/sober
My mom: Drinks soda-like fizzy stuff in company - acts drunk as fuck, to the point of lowered inhibitions and not remembering stuff she told on herself after.

@@shlarlai often wish id gotten more time to talk to my dad’s mom before she passed. My dad brought me back her old pot smoking necklaces from her hippie days. I also know that she has Native ancestry on her side and was apparently pretty connected with that part of her family culture, and left me a feather trinket that she wanted me to keep to basically be like “this is where you have come from, i want you to learn more about that and stay connected with that”. We didnt get to see eachother much, and her health had declined a lot even when i was very young, so i just never really spoke to her when i had that chance. It makes me kinda sad. Im glad that my her passing at least allowed my dad to grieve and eventually come to terms with a lotta parts of his life that he’d been suppressing, because now for me its been somewhat enlightening, for him to be open about his sexuality and be openly accepting to me as a result, which has also led to my mom doing more to try to understand these things after they split. In a bizarre way, her finding peace and allowing herself to pass of her own accord has done a lot to allow my whole family to grow. It’s not perfect, and I still wish she were here today, but it does make me feel like somehow she fuckin knew it was the time to spur these emotions amongst her family. She passed away in her sleep, she’d refused to go to a hospital or old folks home. She’d won against cancer twice in her life, and had persisted despite having such declining health. It’s like she was willing herself to stay until the right moment, and I think about that a lot.

I’m actually kind of convinced that grandpa suspected it and casually snatched one of his brownies, hence why he didn’t believe the story about the friend. He probably already sensed him giving off the weed vibe 😂
As someone who works with kids K-12 it’s always been a red flag to me when someone says “I don’t sugarcoat my words around kids.” It’s code for “I’m too much of an immature jackass to bother explaining something in an age-appropriate way, and it’s your fault for my behavior.” I never discourage the kids from asking questions, and I don’t believe in just ignoring topics you’re uncomfortable with. HOWEVER, all topics should be discussed in an age-appropriate manner, and the times when you can’t fully explain it to them that’s when you say something along the lines of “I’m not the best at explaining this” or “It would take too long to go over everything unfortunately” or “Yknow, I don’t actually know. Maybe we can come back to that topic later.” Kids understand that there’s a time and place for everything, and it’s really not that hard to approach something in an age-appropriate way. In terms of how to explain alcohol to a 6yo I would’ve probably said something like “It’s a drink only for adults because when you’re really young and little it can be very bad for you. When you’re an adult it’s easier for your body to handle it.” But you guys also made a good point that it’s important to express that everything should be done in moderation.
I believe in being honest with kids as much as you can but that means doing it in an age appropriate way and not doing it at all if it’ll cause them distress
@@SpudhutCXrep I was just watching a podcast that Michelle Obama was on and she said something along the lines of she doesn't like it when people say nasty things and then calls it "being real". She said what they're really being is immature. That really stuck with me because I was often around people who said stuff like that and never knew how to call them out on it. Now I do lol.
Same boat, it's a massive red flag. Like I understand if someone who doesn't work or interact with kids alot slipping up and saying the wrong thing occasionally, that's fine; it's a skill to be able to perfectly switch tones. But the refusal to put ANY effort in making others around you more comfortable is selfish and egotistical.
I explained to my children that how much you can eat or drink from anything, depends on how old you are. Even water can poison you. For babies under 6 months, even a little bit of water is dangerous. The older you get, the more water you can drink without it being dangerous. As an adult, you have to drink a positively huge amount of water before it becomes dangerous. I then explained to them that alcohol is dangerous in much smaller doses. For small kids, even a little bit causes brain damage. Some drinks have more alcohol than others, I told them, and I also explained that even adults should only consume small quantities of alcohol.
The collective “umm” from all three after the mushroom story was hilarious. OP did such a great job writing that they all had to come down off his high without even taking shrooms
22:57 Smosh-relevant point to add to this conversation... Remember on the first Love is Blind when Angela acted so drunk for so long that she actually stumbled when it came to the Amanda proposal and she said "whoa, I think I actually made myself drunk"?
That nine year old is gonna be the most normal person in that family along with her Aunt. The sister and parents sound like they need to accidentally eat some edibles.
Yeah that seemed crazy over the top, especially when they claimed she planned for that to happen. Like why would she call poison control and her sister to tell them if it was intentional lol. The family seems a bit dramatic, but we also do have one-sided information. Even with only hearing one side though that's still a bit of an overreaction.
Having a repulsion to drugs is not a bad thing! Many people see how it destroys and end lives and choose to be very strict against it. Also as someone who was unknowingly given an edible it is HELL. I was able to understand it was an edible pretty quick based on symptoms but during that time you don’t feel ‘calm and chill’ you are freaking out because your body feels like it’s shutting down and on adrenaline at the same time. Also I’ve never been more suicidal than during my time intoxicated it’s really miserable, I can’t imagine if you didn’t know what was happening.
@@Kheays lot to unpack here. First let me say nobody should have given you an edible without your knowledge. It’s a stupid prank and shouldn’t be done to a person who doesn’t imbibe. It sounds like you are the type of person that gets paranoid from weed. This is very common, happens to many people but as you can see from the story it’s perfectly safe for a child to consume. Whereas a kid gets into a bottle of aspirin and they can die. What happened to you is wrong. Secondly, weed isn’t a drug. It is a sacred plant humans have used and primates have evolved with over literally millions of years. There is an excellent channel here on UA-cam called SciShow and they recently came out with an episode that talks about how not only “us” but many animals have evolved over time with cannabinoid receptors in their brains. It is a very good episode. I have been sober a long time now, I never drank but did mine and everyone else’s share of drugs and ya drugs are bad, m’kay, apologies, couldn’t resist, but at the end of the day it comes down to the person. I of course don’t know you, but let’s say you like a beer, mixed drink or glass of wine every now and again. This must be reiterated, that 12 pack, bottle of liquor, or bottle of wine could be deadly to a 9 year old but that same 9 year old would have to eat an impossible amount of weed before it became even toxic let alone life threatening. This has gotten very long, I apologize, I’ll close this out and if you wish to continue talking feel free to respond. I would advise though, look into some of the legit studies that are finally taking place for this plant. The hemp plant is phenomenal and something we have evolved to use. Ps. I just wanted to state again, what happened to you, without your knowledge was wrong and stupid. Nobody should ever imbibe without knowing.
The way my parents explained why kids can't have alcohol is because kids aren't done growing, and alcohol and other substances can harm a growing brain. They didn't get into how too much of it can damage an adult brain too, but either way I still find their explanation satisfactory. I will probably communicate the same thing to my children when they ask about alcohol.
this is actually truthful too that it does affect/harm young and even adolescent brain. i mean it quite literally has the power to make an ADULT dysfunctional if they take too much, so for younger people it should be more dangerous.
My cousin is 10 and he's well aware of drinking (plenty of the adults in his life have a beer or two every now and again. I'm the odd one out in that I don't drink). I've already kinda given him the talk about how alcohol is something that's OK for adults, but not for kids (he knows that), but I've also given him the "and when you're a teenager, you might have some of your friends wanting to drink alcohol, too. That's not a good thing, necessarily, because your brain isn't done developing, however, if you and your friends drink at some point never EVER get behind the wheel of a car! Or get in with someone who has been drinking. If you get into that kind of situation and you're scared, CALL me! I'm not gonna act like everything is OK with that, but I will make sure you and your friends get home safe". I'll admit, I don't see a point in demonizing alcohol completely, but I come at it more as a "when you're old enough, it's OK to drink every now and again, but you have to know your limits and you still have to make sure you stay safe! My cousin decided he'll wait until he's 21-25 before he starts drinking. 😂
My parents described it like driving. It comes with dangers and at my age my brain can't handle those dangers. When explaining religious uses of alcohol they explained it as i can drive with dad because his adult brain is going to handle the dangers for me. They used this analogy for a lot of things when explaining why i'm not old enough for things.
@@graeson3317 honestly, that's a great analogy! Kudos to your dad for knowing how to be no nonsense and kid friendly with the explanations. What's funny is that my parents (from like age 8 onward for me) would allow me to try a sip of beer or wine if I was curious (always tasted nasty). And when I was 15, I was allowed to have 1 beer/smirnoff ice on the family camping trip/family party. By the time I turned 21, the only thrill there was to alcohol was being able to buy it. I never really felt the need to go and sneak a drink with my friends or anything because for years, alcohol wasn't some taboo thing. My parents were also alcoholics, so I'm not 100% sure I'd do the same with my own children, but I definitely don't demonize alcohol as this big forbidden thing to kids.
The absolute audacity of the boyfriend bringing his FOUR children WITHOUT even consulting OP and THEN being a little bitch and saying his kids felt rejected?? If anyone had the right to feel rejected it was OP.
There is a huge different to imposing a diet you chose on someone and having a baby. She didn't choose not to drink, they chose together to have kids. I think they were spot on pointing out he is filled with resentment
literally my thoughts too,, they both have decided to have a kid so why is it only on her to take on lifestyle changes,, if hes that adamant about drinking then he could just drink when shes not around but then at that point youd have to evaluate why youre drinking yknow
I can see your point. But i don't agree. She could of asked instead of demanded. Then they talk and come to a compromise that they both can agree to. Because it doesn't help when they both are stubborn and want it their way all the time. If you want that then stay single and childless. Like me lol.
We went to a cannabis wedding once... it was at a head shop. Everyone who attended wore tie dye and the wedding cake was THC carrot cake. 100% of the money spent buying items from the head shop went directly to the couple. They had a live band and it was outside. It was the most chill and happy wedding we've ever been to.
I did hear the mom sneak in that “had I known about the wedding I would have gone with you instead” comment lol. Even the biological mom wasn’t opposed to the weed wedding, she just didn’t want to bring all 4 kids there
i feel for the girl in the brownie story. if she really is as over the top as they’re saying, i’ve been that awkward and worse in social settings, and it’s a not like you’re doing it because you want to be that way, it just feels like the only way you can get along. if my friend’s response to this was to *literally gaslight me into thinking i’m high* to prove that i’m “fake”, i’d be really hurt by that. i can only imagine how she felt. it’s just a really sad and cruel thing to do.
With the wedding story, to me the worst part besides the four days of silence is the fact that he got upset and was surprised that she went to the wedding without him AND that he demanded an apology not just from her, but also from her best friend for accompanying her and “taking his place” like get over yourself, dude. When Shayne read that I was like “oh ok I see why he’s divorced”
I had a very similar thing happen to me, he (high school bf) didn't want me to go out of town with a guy friend of 10-11 yrs. at the time (gay btw which he was aware of) because he wanted to see me that day (we hung daily and I hung with this friend every few months) yelled at me until I cried then said he didn't care what I did then proceeded to call me while I was eating dinner with my friend and his family (cousins grad dinner) saying that he was on my back porch and to let him in. Scolded me again and hung up. Same ex once had my phone (with my permission, no pockets) but then proceeded to dig through nearly like a year of our messages, gas lit me, then nearly dumped me for "being emotional from taking melatonin" which he had BANNED me from 😀 THIS IS A MAJOR RED FLAG THAT SHE WAS LUCKY TO SEE AND WAS LUCKY TO BAIL BEFORE SHIT GOT WORSE!!!!!!
And the best part is that she got an apology/thankyou from the kids mother. Imagine fucking up your relationship so hard that your ex tries to cover for you.
For me it was his ex wife apologizing for him and tearing him a new one. Still parenting him even after the divorce. If I were her, I would use this to get full custody of the kid
100%. It wasn't even about the wedding at that point. It's the 4 days of not being an adult enough to swallow his pride, admit he messed up, and apologize. I've always made it clear in my relationships that I don't fuck with the silent treatment. That's toddler behavior.
@@danielpenrodii2389 I've drunk some sips of cider with dinner. But I was fundie Christian up to my early 20s, then have had mental health struggles where I don't leave my home so.... He's the asshole but I wouldn't judge someone else for making an honest mistake and bringing people. I grew up with small church/community weddings. No RSVP no real dress code. No gifts but money was given to help the couple and it stayed anonymous. People brought food and drinks and would show up early to help decorate And stayed to clean. A lot of backyards and at the church. I didn't learn about American wedding etiquette till I saw movies and later read Reddit stories.
@@bCortzmaybe you didn't listen to the story but it wasn't an "honest mistake" from not understanding culture. For story 1 - not only why would she do it on purpose from an ethics point of view, but also - why would she do it on purpose from a financial point of view!? People act like edibles are cheap. People don't give away edibles to children because not only is it wrong, but it is COST PROHIBITIVE.
The first story was completely on the mom. Always teach your child they should never ever eat anything that is not theirs without asking. I look after my friends kids all the time and they still ask me about candy or food I have given them before because to quote their parents "I could be saving it for something"
there was that story where OP took half a big roast to give to their dog, and in that case the bf literally was saving it for leftovers. even if it's "just" food, respect doesn't hurt :)
Ngl the OP is incredibly dumb. They left edibles in reach of a child? Edibles and wine aren’t similar. For it to be similar the wine would need to be a juice box.
Imagine if it was a gun lay around? Would people still blame the parents for not teaching their kids not to touch guns and definitely not the OPs fault?
This was such a fun episode - I adore this trio! From Tommy fangirling over Shayne's "Update!", to Chanse and Shaynes very in sync "uhmm" after the shroom story and Shayne's "Chanse - oF cOUrsE YoU'Re REal", it's full of fun little moments.
Yeah, that and also even if it wasn't, can you really blame the girl for trying to match the energy when she thought everyone else was high? Everybody knows that, unless you are a very specific type of person, being the only one at the party who's not high is not fun. That's the difference between high and drunk. Being the only one at the party not drunk, that is always extremely funny. Even if she was actually consciously faking it, she was just trying to fit in and that's not like a character flaw that you should try to "expose" someone for. It's just really weird and petty. Like they can just not hang out with her.
Re: 1st story - my mom was about 9 years old in the mid-50s, and she had a friend over... they found some chocolate, but my mom was taught to be a good host, so she let her friend eat it. After her friend got home, the father of her friend called asking "what the hell did you do?!" Turns out, it was the chocolate Ex-Lax... my mom was being polite, but set off a toilet bomb for her friend when she got home.
🤣🤣🤣🤣HILARIOUS!!!!!!!!! But seriously, I’m kind of mad at the little girl because she ate some “candy” without asking beforehand. I was always taught not to touch things that don’t belong to me and ASK if I wanted something. Obviously OP is NTA in this situation.
@@AshlieJermaine Why are you expecting a kid to behave more maturely, when there is an adult involved who should have known better. The kid wasn't in a stranger's house it was her aunt's. Op should have just known and kept the weed candies out of reach.
@@fzlagges5849As a mature adult the OP should've at least thought of having anything in her home that shouldn't be near a kid and immediately think "Did I leave any weed out?" She compared it to wine, but you also shouldn't leave an open glass of wine in your home with an unsupervised child. Still, the child should be taught not to go just eating and drinking whatever they find in a house, even a relative. It's not like the gummies were an unopened bag of M&Ms.
49:29 Regarding Alcohol and what to tell kids: With my neice, we do call it "silly juice" but have also explained that "it makes adults silly, but can make you very sick by having too much for your size. When you are a kid you are too small, so even a sip can make you very sick. When you are an adult you can try some, but not until then."
I love this take! I’ve always said it can be fun but it’s also dangerous and I think your version is wayyy better. Explains why so they don’t keep asking but also hopefully curbs their desire for it for a while.
8:48 shout out to that time as an eight year old my grandma got me a bag of medicated cough drops and I ate the WHOLE thing, got drunk from the cold medicine, and went with my grandma to a Bible Man concert (it’s a superhero who’s only superpowers are the Bible. I’m not joking it was already a trippy experience without being drunk). I don’t remember much of it but I DO remember how sick I was the next day
Fun weed story from my family- my mother used to make top-notch homemade edibles and sell them/give them as gifts. One of my uncles was struggling with cancer and his wife had a crippling joint issue ongoing, so my mom offered to send some special cookies to them as a get well soon gift. My aunt agreed. She unfortunately forgot about this exchange before they arrived in the mail. When they arrived, she put all of them on a plate with a few other cookies she had in the house and left them on the table. My uncle ate at least 6 special cookies and then when the weed kicked in, started repeatedly asking my aunt if she smelt gas or if she was sure there wasnt a gas leak. When he tried to insist they needed to call 911 to make sure, she finally asked him why he thought there was a gas leak. He explained why and she asked when this started. As he was responding, she suddenly realized the cookies she had put out and that were noticeably fewer than she had put out MIGHT be the special cookies my mom had sent. She ended up calming my uncle down a bit and calling my mom at home to check. Everyone ended up on speaker phone laughing themselves silly, then my aunt ate one and said they'd be keeping the rest of these in a very safe place.
On the third story: (I just turned 18 so definitely relate to this) it may feel like she’s trying too hard but the reality at this age is that you’re all trying too hard. That’s part of being a teenager, you just want your peers to like and accept you that’s just the way it goes. She is no different than any one of you, that just happens to be her way of trying to fit in. On the fifth story: DO NOT PARTAKE IN SUBSTANCES FOR THE FIRST TIME/FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A WHILE ALONE! Make sure you have somebody with you who can take care of you and help you when it kicks in cuz you will almost always have a bad time the first few times if you do it alone. You quite literally need them to babysit you just like the aunt did for her niece in the first story. Always have someone with you if you’re trying something new it makes it easier to relax and not feel like you’re having a heart attack.
I'm not sure if it's just me, but if my boyfriend woke me up in the middle of the night frantically yelling about the cats being in the basement and not being able to count past four I would have thought it was the cutest shit ever. I absolutely love silly and absurd stuff like this
I get that alcohol “makes you happy” and whatnot, but like…there’s a difference between wanting that experience temporarily and for fun, and wanting that experience to block out the pain of day-to-day life. Wanting to drink as a way to have fun or be happy isn’t inherently a bad thing-I tend to be a social drinker, because I’m not very good socially and I just have more fun at parties that way. I also sometimes have a few drinks and watch a movie or two to wind down at the end of a day. But the key thing is, I also recognize that I can and do have positive experiences without alcohol, and that plenty of things make me happier than drinking does. The guy who told his kid that alcohol is a way to stop thinking and ignore bad feelings definitely has a problem. If he’s not already a full-blown alcoholic, his attitude toward alcohol could definitely lead him in that direction.
I agree so much. I drink alcohol mostly socially bc it does help me be more talkative sometimes. I also liked the taste of some. Like you I also know that I don’t need alcohol to have fun or be happy. I have some of my own problems but I don’t use alcohol as a way to try to solve it. I try to work on it myself and with the help of friends sometimes. OP in that story needs therapy instead of beer. Beer only does so much for those thoughts. Maybe he might have an underlying condition that he never got diagnosed for and going to therapy could help him figure that out
49:12 Shayne: I do think calling it mommy's juice or daddy's juice is also really weird. *Me who visibly remembers his "Daddy needs his juice phase"* (THIS IS A JOKE, I AGREE WITH SHAYNE😭)
Exactly why it's weird though. It's a funny joke but not like... an explanation. It's like one step from "because I said so" which gives the child no information to go on to learn to process the world and choices.
I was thinking the same, my mother use to keep blackberry brandy in the fridge and told me it was her cough syrup and not to touch it. To be fair, I suppose calling it a medication would be a better way to scare kids away from drinking it without the parent knowing. Definitely be honest but age appropriate, agreed!
Story 1: Brandy beans traumatized me as a kid i was like 7 and saw them in a bowl with some other candies at a holiday party. I saw someone eat one and that it had something inside- i thought caramel me being a kid, took a brandy bean and popped the whole thing in my mouth, excited for what i thought would be a nice candy, only to have the most alcoholic bitter taste flood my mouth. I cried
lmao this was me with my moms rum & coke as a kid!! we were at a magic show in vegas and at the start she was drinking a diet coke and letting me have sips (i was abt 10, maybe shouldn’t have been as caffeinated as i was but oh well) and in the second half i went to take a sip without asking and almost spit it out. the whole ordeal made me swear to never EVER have alcohol as an adult. then i discovered vodka
For the cat story, can confirm you don't even need to open the cat food for them to come 😂 I've had my 15 year old cat since he was a kitten, he's never once gotten wet food from a can and yet every single time that I get the can opener out, he's right there rubbing against my legs, meowing for his food (my chili or whatever)
The weed wedding story is insane. This whole situation could have been avoided but the bf shot himself in the foot. It was a series of dumb decisions on his part: 1) didnt tell the mom that he’d be going to a weed wedding and to switch weekends 2) when the babysitter fell through, he didn’t tell OP and instead thought that he could change their plans last minute to cover his embarrassment 3) assumed he could just bring his FOUR children to a WEED wedding uninvited when he himself is already a plus 1 (any wedding this would be unacceptable) 4) got mad that OP still went without him and went silent for 4 days straight instead of communicating. He only apologized when she confronted him in person and after the mom chewed him out. With so many red flags about communicating, planning and ego, I’m glad OP left him.
Exactly. All of that. The biggest red flag of all, imo, is that the ex-wife is the one who contacted the gf to patch things up. When the ex-wife has to act like the guy's mommy bc he's too immature to reach out himself, you start to understand at least one probable reason they got divorced. Imo, OP dodged a huge bullet on that one. She would've ended up as the step-mother to not only the four kids but also the guy. At one point in the story, I wondered if this was why the ex-wife was making such an effort to fix the problem. Like, maybe she's trying to pawn off responsibility for this loser on someone new so she can stop acting like his mother.
The grandpa story is so relatable. My mom and uncle and I smoked together and I loved it. Learning we liked something that, to that generation, needed to be a secret was so cool.
A trip abroad seems like the exact place that one would want an occasional drink due to the different types of drinks that would be available vs home. I agree that this is more of an issue with power dynamics and control.
Yeah, when I was pregnant, I wouldn’t dream of asking my partner to just not partake at all ever for the entire time. Like occasionally is totally fine but don’t get blitzed all the time, but occasionally partaking with friends or family is totally fine, especially on vacation. I do agree with the comment that said, don’t get smashed, but a couple drinks throughout shouldn’t be an issue
my boyfriend is a recovered alcoholic and told me he would NEVER make me go sober for his sake. we do have certain boundaries to avoid putting him in uncomfortable situations (not taking edibles/drinking thc bevs in front of him) which im more than happy to abide by. i smoke my little bowl once at night out in my car away from him and we have 0 issues because of it. you have a serious problem if you can’t be around it point blank period
I heard it before it's such a funny story. My grandpa is an old hippie also omg my grandpa are a weed brownie. I forgot his age but probably around my mums age 😂. So grandpa was young at the height of weed culture he's an artist of course he's smoked. Denmark or anywhere else
1st story: yes the gummies should have been put away. I agree on that. On the other hand a nine year old knows better to ask if they can have something when they’re not at their house. I was always taught to ask permission before doing anything at someone’s house. This was 100% an accident
Ehhh I’ve had a lot of little nieces and nephews who have impulse issues, and would absolutely at least put my stuff in a drawer. That said, the mom absolutely needs to have a chat with their kid about different kinds of medicine. NTA still tho.
@@sarkaztik3228 Almost all accidents are negligent to some level. It does not mean it is inexcusable. I think every person has done stuff much dumber than this, she just got unlucky that she forgot, her niece saw them, and her niece decided to eat them without asking. No one is really at fault for all that. Things like that happen, and 9 year olds are idiots. The family flipping out are definitely assholes though. They are probably the sort who think that ingesting weed once will turn you into a heroine addict somehow.
OP is really an asshole though for deflecting any responsibility for not thinking of putting away her edibles. Like cool you're a 35 year old living without kids, doesn't mean you shouldn't take reasonable precautions when taking care of a kid
Story 4: It was a power play. He was expecting OP to ditch the wedding to spend time with him and then got mad when his plan failed. Edit: Okay, a case of poor planning, but I'm still side-eyeing him not listening to his girlfriend when she clearly explained why his plan wouldn't work for a 420 wedding. She probably made the right call breaking up, dude can't communicate as a father of four, he's not gonna learn.
This! The anger as a reaction, the lack of communicating, not being able to figure these things out until the ex chews him out. This man has a lot of growing and work to do to become a good partner. Good for her for not signing up to babysit him in the hopes of him choosing to learn that
Yeah, it was just poor planning and timing but this guy does need to grow up a lot. He needs to learn to communicate along with dealing with his embarrassment in a healthy way instead of getting angry, not just for his future relationships but also for his kids. Op was right to break up with him and I hope the best for everyone involved.
Even if it was poor planning, he still expected her to just be ok with taking his four children to a weed wedding when they weren’t invited and he’s already a plus one. When she wasn’t, he still expected her to drop everything and all their plans to spend time with his kids. That is so rude and disrespectful to OP and definitely a power play to cover up his poor planning and hurt ego.
@@SmeltingSmores Exactly. The solution to that poor planning thing is "Hi honey. I'm so sorry, I mixed up the days and have the kids. So I can't come with. Can you go with your friend?"
@@hernameispekka_Rebecca Yeah either he say that or tells the mother of his children,”Oh hey, I can’t get the kids this weekend because I’m going to a wedding with my girlfriend. Could we maybe reschedule for next weekend?”

Telling your child that life gets worse the older you get and that alcohol makes the thoughts stop and makes you happy is setting that kid up for a future of alcohol abuse the second his life gets slightly overwhelming
no joke my sister would get drunk in HS because that was what our mom had always told us since we were kids.
I learned the opposite because of proper education. School and TV Shows taught me that Alcohol leads to acting weirdly, puking, blacking out (forgetting things), etc. A drunk in the family tried to peer pessure me but that didn't change anything. So if the kid ends up with alcohol abuse in the future, it's not ONLY because of the bad parenting.
his father made is seem like alcoholism is the normalcy for adults or that all adults have a sad life, that's just his problem, not everyone else's
My uncle would get his son (12-16) blackout drunk as "preparation". He's a teacher btw.
Why don't just say something like it's not healthy and for Kids it effects their development. When he is older he is allowed to Drink but should be careful because it can make him sick.

Facts. I have ADHD and I tend to mirror and mask when I'm anxious around people. I felt for her.
SAME!! I’m also autistic and have learned to act a certain way around others because it results in minimal embarrassment and criticism, not because it’s how I feel or naturally behave-which gets me mocked and alienated. I just want people to accept my presence peacefully. I can’t be genuine AND liked.

They're cuddling on the couch, playing a random game of Rock Paper Scissors and laughing hysterically. Angela mentions they went to the Barbie movie together.
That honestly made that particular story less sad. It was the one happy highlight.
fangirling, huh... i haven't heard that word in thirty years......
OP also mistakes figure of speech as baby talk, it helps a lot to use language like that while also being honest

You're so right. It's a major red flag. It's like they take pride in perpetuating trauma - pathetic.
Yea I feel like it wasn’t about the accident and more just them judging her for having weed at all
Yeah that seemed crazy over the top, especially when they claimed she planned for that to happen. Like why would she call poison control and her sister to tell them if it was intentional lol. The family seems a bit dramatic, but we also do have one-sided information. Even with only hearing one side though that's still a bit of an overreaction.
I want to like this comment so bad. But it has 420 likes.
Chanse's "We see you" is hilarious haha
If anyone had the right to feel rejected it was OP.
totally!! it was refreshing to see someone so mature to know the best thing to do a that point was to end the relationship
Also, I think the convo had in front of his kids was the "they can't go to the wedding" convo... 😅

To be fair a weed wedding sounds super cringe
There is a huge different to imposing a diet you chose on someone and having a baby. She didn't choose not to drink, they chose together to have kids. I think they were spot on pointing out he is filled with resentment
I agree too!! Such a huge difference because one is a choice made TOGETHER while the other is the individual
literally my thoughts too,, they both have decided to have a kid so why is it only on her to take on lifestyle changes,, if hes that adamant about drinking then he could just drink when shes not around but then at that point youd have to evaluate why youre drinking yknow
100% of the money spent buying items from the head shop went directly to the couple. i feel for the girl in the brownie story. if she really is as over the top as they’re saying, i’ve been that awkward and worse in social settings, and it’s a not like you’re doing it because you want to be that way, it just feels like the only way you can get along. if my friend’s response to this was to *literally gaslight me into thinking i’m high* to prove that i’m “fake”, i’d be really hurt by that. i can only imagine how she felt.
it’s just a really sad and cruel thing to do.
I need more of this combo on the couch!!! The chemistry these 3 have is so fun!
As someone who has been an adult for a long time, and never tried alcohol/weed/shrooms/drugs, these stories are wild, and I love them

yeah that one was WILD
He's the asshole but I wouldn't judge someone else for making an honest mistake and bringing people. I grew up with small church/community weddings. No RSVP no real dress code. No gifts but money was given to help the couple and it stayed anonymous. People brought food and drinks and would show up early to help decorate And stayed to clean. A lot of backyards and at the church. I didn't learn about American wedding etiquette till I saw movies and later read Reddit stories.
@@bCortzmaybe you didn't listen to the story but it wasn't an "honest mistake" from not understanding culture. She and the boyfriend had gone over the plans and expectations for the day multiple times. In the update he admits he was just embarrassed his babysitter fell through and wanted to make it her problem.
True!!
there was that story where OP took half a big roast to give to their dog, and in that case the bf literally was saving it for leftovers. even if it's "just" food, respect doesn't hurt :)
@MrDoverfield if the kid is that old and they don't know the dangers of a gun then imidite parent fail.
The father who told his child that people drink to feel less sad reminds me of Bojack Horseman if he had a child.

Third story is legit the placebo effect, it's a real thing
Yeah, that and also even if it wasn't, can you really blame the girl for trying to match the energy when she thought everyone else was high? Everybody knows that, unless you are a very specific type of person, being the only one at the party who's not high is not fun.
That's the difference between high and drunk. Being the only one at the party not drunk, that is always extremely funny.
Even if she was actually consciously faking it, she was just trying to fit in and that's not like a character flaw that you should try to "expose" someone for. It's just really weird and petty. Like they can just not hang out with her.
I started to think I was a bit high watching chance in this. Is he high?
Alcohol or Weed, it's still a dick move to do to someone.

49:29 Regarding Alcohol and what to tell kids:
With my neice, we do call it "silly juice" but have also explained that "it makes adults silly, but can make you very sick by having too much for your size.
The last story with the grandpa was the best. So wholesome.

Shayne: I do think calling it mommy's juice or daddy's juice is also really weird.
*Me who visibly remembers his "Daddy needs his juice phase"*
(THIS IS A JOKE, I AGREE WITH SHAYNE😭)
Really wish someone had been wearing a "daddy's juice" shirt in the video
Exactly why it's weird though. It's a funny joke but not like... an explanation. It's like one step from "because I said so" which gives the child no information to go on to learn to process the world and choices.
I was thinking the same, my mother use to keep blackberry brandy in the fridge and told me it was her cough syrup and not to touch it. To be fair, I suppose calling it a medication would be a better way to scare kids away from drinking it without the parent knowing. Definitely be honest but age appropriate, agreed!
Story 1: Brandy beans traumatized me as a kid
i was like 7 and saw them in a bowl with some other candies at a holiday party. I saw someone eat one and that it had something inside- i thought caramel
me being a kid, took a brandy bean and popped the whole thing in my mouth, excited for what i thought would be a nice candy, only to have the most alcoholic bitter taste flood my mouth.
I cried
lmao this was me with my moms rum & coke as a kid!! we were at a magic show in vegas and at the start she was drinking a diet coke and letting me have sips (i was abt 10, maybe shouldn’t have been as caffeinated as i was but oh well) and in the second half i went to take a sip without asking and almost spit it out. the whole ordeal made me swear to never EVER have alcohol as an adult. then i discovered vodka
It was a series of dumb decisions on his part:
1) didnt tell the mom that he’d be going to a weed wedding and to switch weekends
2) when the babysitter fell through, he didn’t tell OP and instead thought that he could change their plans last minute to cover his embarrassment
3) assumed he could just bring his FOUR children to a WEED wedding uninvited when he himself is already a plus 1 (any wedding this would be unacceptable)
4) got mad that OP still went without him and went silent for 4 days straight instead of communicating.
He sounds like a guy who uses his kids as pawns to get his way.

Eh, an accident doesn't mean it's not negligence.

That is so rude and disrespectful to OP and definitely a power play to cover up his poor planning and hurt ego.

the third story resonates w me a lot cuz me and my friends smoke a lot of weed but my sister doesn't at all but she's always in the same vibe as us, 100% just a vibe thing and not "over doing it"
Older people actually smoke more than you'd imagine lmao. My nan was 80+ and picked up smoking weed for pain and appitite and I know a alot of people have parents/ grandparents that use it for the same reasons!
Ill never forget smoking a joint with my nan and cousin out on the deck one christmas eve... mainly cause we recorded it to afro mans before I got high lmaooo
My parents live way out in the mountains and my dad grows for himself and for fun & shares his crop with like 14 people over the age of 60 up there 😂 I know more elder smokers than younger
17:11 not me literally hitting my bong and looking up to see tommy making eye contact saying this
i work at a grocery store and almost everyone is high especially the younger employees, it makes it a lot easier to handle cranky customers blazed out of your mind
not having keith on the 4/20 episode is criminal and i demand justice
I was looking for this comment 😭
THIS!!! I’m slightly offended we didn’t get Keith and Noah on a 4/20 episode 💀
@prvdnut1713 yeah chance and tommy are annoying af
THIIIIS
Why?
The grandparents in story 1 probably have bright, colorful heavy medication they just leave on the counter lmfao
grandpa is a legend. my mom is just like that. i love it.
five-cats shrooms-guy is a legend
Dude I’m cry laughing how is that quote not permeating the entire comment section. Not gonna lie, “Help! I took shrooms! Five cats in the basement and I can only count to four!” Is objectively one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard in my life. I wish I could clip it and turn it into my ringtone 😂😂😂
This one genuinely was one of the best episodes in a while and I don't even smoke lmao. These stories were just so fun and I do have a soft spot for Chanse and Tommy lol
STOPPPPPP Chance going “we see you” like that TOOK ME OUT 😭😭💀💀💀 this episode is gonna be perfect to get ready to before seeing Wiz Khalifa, Flatbush Zombies, and EARTHGANG at Red Rocks!!! Happy 4/20 Everyone! 🍃
Have fun! Red Rocks is a beautiful place for a concert.
This might be my favorite reddit episode yet. Chance and Tommy have me cackling. (happy420)
Re: the cannabis wedding. Many moons ago, my roommate’s dad attended a cannabis wedding in BC where the leader of the Cannabis Party was either in the wedding party or the officiant. I don’t remember the details she relayed as it was so long ago, but it sounded very fun and fairy fantasy-esque.
