Special Education teachers I have one great piece of advice. "Do not baby talk" Some are non verbal yet they understand when they are being treated differently, just speak in your normal voice and you'll get better results.
@@brittneyjones5548 it isn't easy.. I do it as well.. to be honest some need a really nurturing voice to comprehend things. then when you've gotten enough of a chance to wrk with them and they trust you, you ca change the tone slowly. esp the ones in group homes where their parents never see em ..they need something ya know
other tips: NO SURPRISES, hold hands throughout an activity then let go then hold again as you up the difficulty, celebrate a really well done assignment by hanging it near your desk and constantly using that as proof to show the student he/she has done amazing work in the past and can do it again, i can go on. this is my 21st yr in sped teaching...
The Special education program is ruining people's confidence and lives. I got put in those classes in 6th grade until 10 grade. I didn't learn anything during that time, so I eventually started acting out and getting into trouble. I got kicked out of school in the 10th grade for fighting. I few months later I started taking GED classes and It was a struggle. I remember taking a GED assessment when I started. I was on a 6th grade level and within a year, I passed my GED. 4 out of 10 high school graduates can't pass the GED. I have graduated from college since then with an associate degree and I have a great job, but I will always remember my past. All of my classmates that were in Special education with me are in jail, dead because of drugs, or working fast food. I'm the only one that truly made it and that's because of Jesus Christ and my family that never give up on me
Conner, I am so sorry for what you went through. I can't imagine the pain that you still feel from such a bad experience. I hate that you went through that, but thank you so much for sharing what happened. I've been working in special education classrooms, and I do agree that change is much needed. Your voice is critical! Thank you, thank you, thank you. I'm also so happy to know that you know Jesus and that you have a family that loves and supports you. You have incredible determination, and I am so proud of who you've become in spite of all that was against you. You're amazing. Please keep telling your story.
Thank you Corner for sharing such an inspiring story. And thank you for accepting Jesus into your life. Finally God bless your family for all their support 💕💕💕
Hi I'm a special needs student who needs help in learning , I have trouble speaking big words I don't really know. I have a vocabulary in my notebook but I find it very hard to understand the meanings, I got abit of immature behaviour I can't really controll and I am trying my best to behave and learn abit more.
God is bigger than any diagnoses,I was a product of drug abuse I t the womb I struggled in school but as I got closer to God his word (The bible taught me) call on him he will change your story
How do you help one in zoom? Iam not sure if he is special, but it feel like Iam talking in circle with him. Iam not a teacher, but I do appointments for resume. He said he is applying for grad school and I don’t think he is joking.
