I relate to the thing where parents had no concept of age appropriate stuff but for me it was a combination of my parents both working for the German police and my mom specifically working for the forensic department of our city and then being 41 and 39(dads birthday was 2 weeks after mine) when I was born. They were too old to actually know what was going on in media so never knew what I shouldn't be watching. They would also watch stuff like that weird autopsy show and I just watched it with them.
I have two older siblings and that probably didn't help either. My brother showed me a whole bunch of stuff that made me not want to fall asleep for a few days usually.
