You did a good job John and it was so funny watching you struggling and crashing through the shrubs putting the string on
Just did this with one of my phormiums. Worked quite well indeed! Thanks John 😊
Thank you for that amazing tip. My pampas grass hasn't been cut back for years and this will make the job so much easier.
Gardening as an act of violence! I love it! Great video!
More videos please John they are fantastic and very educational, more about different plants and trees and bushes, thank you!
What a great tip. I'm just about to plant some phormiums and I hadnt thought about what I would do when they look straggly. Thank you.
Brilliant it got 2 to do 👍
What a great way to prepare for cutting. Much neater than the way I do it!
Wow that good I didn't know it would grow back if I cut it down like you have, thank you so much for putting this video on here.
OMG how I love this guy.
Timely piece for me John. Thank you.
That extra physical effort using a manual saw, is better than having to clean a chainsaw afterwards!
I love all of your videos. Very informative!
Another fantastic master class its a living book than written book.more videos please.
You're a wild man and your dog was looking at you like you're crazy. LOL
So funny John you made my day - but very informative.
Great idea and good demonstration! Thank you very much!
Was wondering the best wat to sort out the pampas grass in my garden . Thank you for this great tip
Thanks John, a brilliant video, really needed this one, have a large Phormium and will give this a go next May...
You make me laugh!! A great tip, thanks!
Just transplanted 28 mature flaxes... been cutting each frond back with secateurs lol... until the pair broke this evening!!! might have to get some string!!!
Just Brilliant 👍
I love your videos! I just discovered you recently. Did you do a follow-up showing how this phormium bounced back? That would be fun to see.
Yes, I would also love to see that!
Me too
Thanks great tip I hope, planted quite a few in the grounds of the pub I work for( Sparrowhawk Formby)
Now they are massive
Great flop down knackered, instant flax bed lol my pampas grass is getting this treatment at some point.
Thx John. That's all very well, but my Mum will sulk about it for as long as it takes to grow back.
Hi John, I live not far from you, should i do this in the winter or when do you recommend
Woah, thats a really gutsy move. I guess the risk outweighs the amount of effort required to thin out fading foliage.
That is just brilliant. But I’d have taken a few divisions to get a few more of these beauties.
Video on Yuccas. Do you trim the skirt, or leave it natural.
I was going to try to dig mine out but this might be a better way
Great job!
After cutting half way through, it might work better to change to cutting from the other side, with the mass leaning toward the original cut.
Great
Thanks a lotx
I had an identical size plant that had never been cared for and was overgrown. I did EXACTLY what you did in this video. 48 hours later still no new growth. Dublin Ireland, April 2020. Will it grow back?
Did it eventually grow?
@@anderjpoo it did but a lot slower
@@slithertoothy
thanks so much for replying I was thinking of tackling mine so that is useful to know.
@@anderjpoo I'm glad I did it too
I just cut one down per customer request but not that low will it come back
Thanks
What is the best time of year to cut back the phormium plant please? My plants are twenty years old. Deirdre
Spring or early summer
Please show update if you have time 🐞🐦👍👍👍👍👍 GT information and update
How often do you cut your phormium?
And what time of the year is best to cut it down?
My yellow wave phormium turned green have 8 in a circle they have gotten huge yours is little compared to mine, I had them around a bird bath, had to move bird bath away as birds could not find it nor could I, I have watched several vids and they all wanted to cut 1 leaf at a time I would have been cutting for 555 days lol, thanks for your vid will do them your way, what time of year should I do it, I am thinking any ol time. Will be looking at your other vids Cheers Wendy
Always late spring to early summer
@@johnlordssecretgarden thanks
Bless you John! But I want the roots out! OUT!!
So the phormium won't grow back where you have cut the leaves.
The cut leaves don’t regrow much but new leaves appear from the centre of the plant
...Boooooiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnggggg!.........hahahahaha....hadafkha!
hilarious LOL
What is he saying for the pruners? Saco-what?
secateurs
@@ParkersGardens Thank you!
Use a ratchet strap instead of string.
Come do mine plz
a chain saw will just clog up
