- You never know what-or who-you’ll run into In the Aisles. In this episode, Derek talks to painter, instructor, and builder Kevin Tetz. Hear stories about Kevin’s rock ‘n’ roll days, his transition to paint and body work, and how he started with a ’49 GMC truck and a can of spray paint. There’s also a new segment-the Dorman Mystery Box-and some talk of a singer Derek and Kevin both admire because he “sounds like he’s about to freakin’ die.”

I’m a big Kevin Tetz fan. Never knew he was a musician. Thanks for having him.
Me either, I immediately went and tried looking up some of his music! LOL

He was pretty good, the voice blowout thing is true. Watched him on trucks! For years. Good dude.
Thank you so much to everyone for all the kind and generous comments!!!! This was a fun interview, and Derek is super easy to talk to. I'm truly humbled by this response. :)
Thanks for all you do, and have done. Been a fan/follower for decades Kevin
That was a cool interview, lots of fun!
@@jspaulding4106 Thanks Man!
@@SModelMafia Thanks, that means alot. :)
I'm now going to check out your YT channel, because Derek says that you're OK!
Really appreciate Kevin! Dad and I used to watch him. It's been great to see him connecting with you Derek!
I love the What’s in the Box bit. More of that!
What a great interview!! Love the down to earth conversation. Just plain ol’good fellarz!!!
Big fan of the guess a part segment.
Favorite episode yet . Loved every minute of it.
This is one of The best segments/talks/interviews ever! Congrats to you both Derek and Kevin!!
Derek, this was one of the best interviews with Kevin. Enjoyed it!!!
Good show! More please.
I remember watching him on Sunday mornings!
The look on Derek's face when they confirmed that thermostat was from a Chevy... he looked betrayed, lol.
I remember the "Big Blaze" build on Trucks. I eould of seen that episode probably the week it aired or the next. I dint exactly remember the episode but it sounds familiar!
these are great to watch MORE MORE MORE
I could feel the disappointment Derek had when he was told that such a complicated thermostat housing was from a Chevy. 🤣
watched the whole thing but i wasnt glued to the content like normal.
I'd like to see a "guess the part" done with Derek Bieri and Gerard Pink.
Derek, I wanted let you know, your question to Kevin regarding motivation to do a certain project or the lack of motivation to do the project struck a chord with me. When I lack the motivation to do my own project, I watch one of your videos. Your special car guy language allows a fella to start looking at the ‘sparkalators’ and ‘fire make it happener’. Soon I am adding ice cube juice to the ‘rajiator’ and installing a new ‘lightning cube’. Thanks for the motivation.
I love your message. Nice!
This was probably one of my favourite episodes yet. Thanks guys for sharing with us.
I was a die hard PowerBlock watcher. I learned a lot from you over the years Kevin. Thanks for the instructions!
Thank you John! It's an honor. :)
Amazing interview, had me laughing out loud. You guys sitting down and the commentary make a guy feel like he is sitting 10 feet away on a bar stool in your shop. You dont get that with many other people. Also, the motivation on projects was a great discussion. I watched Kevin growing up and learned a ton from his shows. Great job Derek and Kevin.... keep it up.
I really dig how Kevin explains things so well without coming off as condescending. Fantastic interview. Btw thermostat fixed with O'Reilly' parts!
You always have great guests and Kevin didn't disappoint.
Lotta memories watching Kevin and the guys on Saturday mornings What a guy continuing selling his image/brand. Never quit
I loved this segment. This guess a part was awesome. Keep it up!
When Kevin said “this video is going to go virus” 😂 love it
Every weekend I was glued to PowerBlock. I learned so much from Kevin over the years. He's literally given us all (for free) the ambition and ability to do things some of us wouldn't normally be able to do. Guys like Kevin and Derek are priceless.
a feller was wondering what happend earlier with this episode
I just don't believe it but I have to, I'm looking right at it for the second time.
Wasn't it a live stream earlier
As a Brit I bloody love the can-do attitude you have. Hard work gets you where you want to be and I love the enthusiasm and passion. Superb.
Man this is a great channel , I remember watching Kevin on power nation TV when I was in high school. Thanks for sharing. Cheers 🇨🇦
Best in the aisles show yet with a real icon that I've respected and watched for many year thank you Derek and Kevin for a great video
Thanks for this video Derek and Kevin. Listening to Kevin's struggles trying to find his niche' sounded ohh so familiar. My guess is it was the struggles the majority of us had to endure before we found our's. Mine was concrete construction. Got a job as a laborer, wanted to learn to be a finisher, worked for free after my laborer day was done which usually was only 5 or 6 hours a day and I'd swing back to the job where the finishers were working, asked if they'd let me try and one day my boss pulled up to the job, dropped off a bucket of brand new tools and said,, "Starting today you're no longer a laborer,, you're a finisher." and my life took off. 4 years later I started a flatwork business of my own and that kept my family housed, fed, clothed, medical issues and all it took to take care of 5 kids, my wife and myself for over 30 years. "Success is NOT a DESTINATION,, it's a JOURNEY"
Amen brother well said .
The part of the conversation regarding how many more projects you can actually accomplish has come home to me and my circle of friends. We are now in our late 60s and 70s and one of the hardest decisions we have to make is which ones to focus on and letting go of the rest. I retired this year and instagated the 10 year rule. If I cannot finish it within the next 10 years I have to let it go. Not only do they distract you they take up space. They're always in the background whispering "hey, I just need a few minutes of your time". Sending them to someone that will carry out that dream is the next hardest part, like giving up a part of your family. One thing to remember, as we get older we get slower so if you're planning your projects in your 50's, remember to add about 50% more time to accomplish the same amount of work in your 70's. Great content from both of you!! Keep it coming!
You and Kevin mentioned the band Shinedown. The singers name is Brent Smith. I grew up with him! I've known Brent since elementary school, we used to jam on the school bus together, and wrestled on our High School team together. Great and humble dude, and you're right, he has such an amazing amount of energy and soul in his voice. He's also a Tennessee boy as well! We grew up in Knoxville.
Jason, please tell Brent I love his work!!!
By far my favorite episode of this show to date!
When Kevin did the airstream and installed pex tubing, it came to Wisconsin in the hvac industry and out of 45 guys I was the only one who knew how to install it and it got me a $2.00 an hour raise and I became the lead installer which exploded my career, which unfortunately was cut short after 29yrs years because of a idiot who couldn't drive but non the less, Kevin changed my life and I can't thank you enough Sr. Derek you got my wife and I into looking for an old car to mess around with. Thanks so much for your help 🙏
Heres. story for CHnnel like this , I wish yo well man , have all the fun you can in life , you are the best when you are having fun1
I ordered everything from jegs and Summit because of powerblock. My first 86 f150 was right out of those shows. Great guest
THIS episode is by far my favorite. I had no idea Kevin had a singing background. He mentions opera names, Sills, Pavarotti, Domingo. I studied opera/jazz at FSU and my voice teachers were contemporaries of all of them and performed with them often. Way cool to see another singer find his way to muscle cars like me. I thought I was the odd man out on that one. haha. Wicked cool, Kev. Rock on!
Great video. Kevin is a legend. I went to paint and body school 30yrs ago, just so I could paint my own stuff for buying and flipping cars and trucks. Unless you own the shop it’s hard to make a living in the auto body field because the insurance companies control the pay. Kevin is right, body work makes the paint job. 🇺🇸🦅
the best fun ive had watching this channel so far. So educational So inspiratinal
I loved the show I want to see more of the what’s in the box it was awesome
LOL Stacey is looking like someone's crazy aunt these days. Been watching his stuff since I was a kid though
Definitely need more of the car parts guessing! Thats really fun to watch!!!
Kevin Tetz was a hero of mine growing up. I tried to catch "Trucks" every weekend. I was drawn to his straightforward presentation of information that most anyone could follow. My favorite build of his was the Ranger/B-series with the 4 valve 4.6L and the fleece blanket "fiberglass" front bumper.
Thanks Daniel!! That means alot. thanks for the kind words, Derek is the real deal and I'm stoked that we're friends!
I grew up watching Tetz. He’s amazing and the best host on power block
When i first saw Kevin on tv i thought he was just a tv personality. I quickly realized he was very capable at the automotive craft.
I could listen to him all day long. Very cool!
i grew up watching him on powerblock along with jesse combs, and Stacey david. Derek, you made it for sure man. all i watch now is your content along with cleetus, diesel brothers, demo ranch.
Used to watch those back in the cable tv days every weekend. Now catch episodes on UA-cam
I'm sixty three years old and I need to be reminded not to judge people too quickly. My impressions of Kevin were wrong. A humble man and a deep thinker who has paid his dues. Great interview with two men I respect.
I absolutely have to get in at least an hour of Power Block TV in a night before I go to bed, via the powernation youtube channel. Thanks for having Kevin on, I've enjoyed seeing him on so many shows, such a wealth of knowledge.
Also, I'd love to see you get Tommy Boshears on one day!
I enjoy listening to your voice, Kevin. Where can I watch your videos? Loved the zed 28 build.
Paintucation UA-cam channel and his social media pages
This was a really good episode. I've been watching Kevin for years. Glad to see he's doing well
Great interview. Learned a few golden nuggets. Very applicable wisdom for other industries as well.
Kevin is the best! Gave me the fundamentals to start body work on my crew cab project.
Parts box was hilarious! Do more of that!
Mystery box challenge was awesome
I've been watching Kevin for years. Thanks for sharing his story.
One of the best "In the Aisles"
The "What's in the box" segment is awesome!
Where can a guy get an O’Reillys insulated drink cup?
Loved the segment learned alot
Great show! O'Reilly has chosen the right stars!
No clue who this is sorry VGG
the parts guessing was awesome and fun to watch!
I love all the In the Aisles, but this one is great. Great interview!
I came into this one with lower expectations, because I'll admit that I knew very little about Kevin. BUT, now I'm going to dig into his arsenal of content. What a joy to watch. And, PLEASE keep the "What's in the box" section. The faces alone during that, were priceless!
The guess the part segment was hilarious. Kevin seems like a genuine dude.
This is probably my favorite episode yet. Mystery box is definitely an idea that should be continued
You know , I'm from different country, different culture, to be honest from behind so called Iron Courtain. Bit we had no money too. When I was teenager i was buying junk cars too. Nobody even called it "a car" but rather "scrap metal". But after many hours of wrenching, and being creative , those cars actually became drivable.
I’ve been subscribed to VGG since there was an actual ‘day job’. I’ve also been watching KT for even longer. When Kevin was talking about sitting down with producers and they said ‘This isn’t your show. This is the viewers show. What you’re selling is inspiration and hope.’ That in a nutshell is the formula for Derek’s success. VGG makes me look at my 77 Camaro and actually feel like this is something I CAN finish (well.. make run again) and motivates me to take steps.
That…and the support of our vets/active military and fathering and fan interaction and the genuinely humble personality….
So, thanks Derek and KT. This weekend I’m dropping the ‘make it go forward/reverse’. I’ll spray it when she moves under her own power.

What a meaningful and perspective interview! I always enjoyed Kevin on TV but even casually like this he’s very well spoken and captivating. I thoroughly enjoyed this
Regarding the discussion about "free" parts ... I think Kevin glossed over (missed), what's really going on. These companies aren't supplying parts to TV shows and UA-camrs out of the goodness of their hearts. Sure, they supply the parts for no money, but they're getting FREE advertising in return. There's still a transaction, just without any money involved.
WE EARNED IT! CAUSE YOU(THA FANS AND ENTHUSIAST) HAVE STAYED INTERESTED IN US AS A PERSON AND WHAT WE ACCELL IN...... DEREK had said this many different ways in his rise to a "O.G.Tube" personality.....in many different videos
How do we get those ole skool cups???? In store, or order from the site.....I NEED A GARAGE COLD SÑACK CUP THAT IS TOUGH.....NO KIDDING.....O E TO STICKER UP AND ONE TO CATCH BOLTS AND STRAY PARTS
Gotta keep these. They are very entertaining.
Got to be my favorite episode so far. Such a great conversation. Love the name that part section.
A challenge I'm issuing for many of your future revivals is to get the cars running with parts from a pick-n-pull type wrecking yard, something people have a chance to afford. California as an example $200/he labor rates, holley fuel injection (parts only) aprox $6000, paint and materials (summit can't ship to CA) $8000, headers aprox $1000, manual trans TK type $7000. Its is almost impossible for a young person to have let alone justify the expense to take on a project. Rebuilding carbs and other parts is the blessing in your revivals on what is possible to do with an old car and hopefully motivate some to get involved.
I agree Derek Kevin always tries to make you feel.......YES you can do this.... Keep trying!!!!
Had a customer with a Toyota with a complaint of a clunk while steering. It had one of those gears that gave out. Lives in the power assist motor in the steering column. This car had under 100k. I’ll stick to my old school power steering that is still going at 275k 🤣
I unfortunately know someone when I was in highschool that parted out a 77 Chevy Camaro RS i for years had the 4spd Saginaw and the 601 casting number headed gm medium rise sbc z28 and vette specific intake manifold and the 795 cfm hot air choke Rochester quadrajet carburetor it was the number matched drivetrain to the 77 Camaro RS i ended up building a 0.30 Chevy 305 H.O. but with a melling performance L79 65 300 hp 327 sbc computer design blueprint camshaft kit and it was used in a 74 chevy c10 custom trim truck full of bondo in grey rattle can krylon primer my younger brother wanted to take to car shows for a flame thrower truck and it already had a complete new aluminized 2 inch cherry bomb super turbo dual exhaust pipe system and he added 4 ft cut down sections of the 74 chevy c10 driveshaft a threaded a spark plug in them and used a dual ignition coil from a 7116 simplicity garden tractor from 1990 to fire the spark plugs,, ingenious thinking from a 14 year old kid..
Good show. A couple "What's in the box" at the end is good enough. More than that is too much for me..
An amazing epesode would be w/ Gene Winfield. He's about 90 years old now and still a legendary car builder. Meet him at Syracuse Nationals
Not as good as either of you, but I grew up having to build or patch together cars if I wanted one. Still do, just not as good as you folks, but I keep trying even after 60+ years. I like music, but you definitely don't want to hear me play or sing ANYTHING.
I have 20 summers left if i'm lucky, people look at you weird when you tell them that. Just been practical and planning to finally take time to enjoy whats left. Great episode.
Exhaust pipe tubing isn't my first choice of the cheater pipe a gm front wheel drive,1988-2002 strut brace is it's like 2 inch square tubing and strong!!
How would a guy get both of you together to help a fan finish up a project. Something interesting is I started a project 1964 Chevy 2 and have gotten somethings done to the point of welding in subprort brackets for rear end. Now at a stop work on it because I was lymphoma and start treatment 12/17-23 . Would love to finish my Chevy 2. You guys are the reason why I got my Chevy 2 because you guys gave me the confidence in myself and I went for it. Now I can't finish it up. I have new parts waiting for it. New blue print engine and new transmission stage three waiting to get put in. I can't weld to finish up my street cruiser....
The one that amazed me because I actually saw it was Copper Head. I was scared to breath on it and would not think of touching it amazing. I wanted to jump in that paint job like a swimming pool and see how deep it was. Stacey David, the number of people that man has inspired and helped out and you never hear him advertise that fact, yet there are people who still bad mouth him, it's a shame he does not deserve that.
That looks like the replacement battery terminal for the newer f150’s trucks. The factory positive cable is not long enough to use a standard replacement top post terminal.
I think my favorite truck that was from gearz was Sgt. Rock. Everything you guys did to that truck was dream level
I never knew Kevin was also a musician! I also owe a lot to Kevin for his eastwood and Zedsled instructional videos they took my paint and bodywork skills to the next level, im talking driveway paintjobs winning awards Thanks Kevin! If you are ever in the UK theres a few cold beers waiting for you with your name on them
Derek has a show sponsored by O'Reillys?? What did i just find! This aint VGG! But i did enjoy of course!
Good question about which car he couldn't part with. What's the car or project Derek wouldn't part with? Besides the '56 Buick...
The edsel 475 is the a 410 ci incase anyone wonders. The put the torque on them like buick did. Still awesome power plant.
I listened to the podcast (get your VGG fix while driving) ... but I had to come to the UA-cam to revisit the "what's in the box?" segment with video 😂
I'm let down that they cut out a guy's vapor-lock on that steering coupler. I get it if a guy said something that wasn't PG, though. We've just never gotten to see Derek properly vapor-lock before.
How this was a fantastic show ,know friend from North Carolina, she also said Stacey david was one of the nicest person she ever met ,genuinely a nice guys .I didnt know Kevin grew up in Canada ,id be curious to know when he left and went to the great USA
Absolutely loved him on the powerblock
Guess what part it is was hilarious. Maybe #"+! It up a notch and randomly put some non-auto part for shock valve.
Not surprised that they didn't know the steering coupler. I doubt these two guys have ever worked on a kia soul. That's a 5 to 7 dollar part that the dealership charges 100s to replace.
Did it myself a few years back.
Help me understand, why did it take me 10 days before tapping on this episode? Brilliant entertainment Derek and Kevin! Keep ‘em coming.
I remember Kevin on Spike(PB) restoring a steering wheel that had the cracks and gaps and filling it with Filler. I saw many of his episodes but I always liked that one for some reason!!!!! I think because I use to see those steering wheels and always wondered if you could save them without just getting rid of them.
