    Looks great! Reminds me of the (Liteon) Non-linear Processor multitrack mod by d.bop. This is a bit closer to the Luna and Studio One Mix Engine FX summing plug-ins. The two-band EQ, limiter and different console types are great features!

    • @johnmatthews8435

      Just had a look at it. Not bad! Didn't know it exists =)
      The idea is the same, but the master-plugin by d.bop is just a controller. All processing happens in the slave-plugins. SumThing does (as I told in the video) processing in both stages and has way more advanced features. ;)

    This is really awesome! The mojo and the sound it truly amazing. Maybe 1 future request : LPF and HPF, that would make the plugin perfect. And another feature request to be able to have multiple masters. I would like to use the plugin with instances on the drum bus with a different master than for example the bass.

    I think I understand what the plugin is doing. I'm not sure how to think about it: It's adding some "artifacts" to make your mixer more "analog"-sounding. So you could say that this is an extra module for your mixer, helping it sound less digital and more analog. So in a sense, it's a solution to a problem, that has been "solved" in many ways before. So what is the unique thing here? The sound of it? The workflow?
    Sry if the question sounds stupid or critical. It may be stupid, but it's not a critique - and thanks for your awesome plugins!

    • @johnmatthews8435
      @johnmatthews8435  2 роки тому +1

      The plugin adds THD and noise in the channel mode, the master mode is a controller for all the channels + EQ / trim / Limiter + sound shaping. Most (or all) other plugins simulate input stage and output stage of a mixer in one plugin, so in one stage - which is not how it works on analog gear.

    • @acebone2
      @acebone2 2 роки тому

      @@johnmatthews8435 That must mean that the only place for the track-sumting instances is at the very beginning of the fx-chain, and the master should be at the very end of the master-track fx-chain?
      I really dig it. These days I am exploring "analogizing" my sound. I am preparing for a podcast series that will be rich in sound design, and I'd like it to sound as analogue as possible without overdoing it. Your plugins are great for this. Small feature-request: I'd really like to be able to calibrate the meter in sumting. Right now I am using both sumting and MCP Meter on all tracks. If I could calibrate the sumting meter, I wouldn't need the MCP meter, although it is beautiful.

    One thing I though of was that it could benefit from added oversampling modes, but since Reaper will include FX-chain oversampling sometime in the near future it might not be necessary to add it to SumThing.

    • @johnmatthews8435
      @johnmatthews8435  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, I already thought so too. But adding oversampling is tricky...I didn't manage to get that working properly yet. Maybe in future. And at least, it is not too necessary for SumThing and maybe will be a reaper function... ;)

    • @sebguyader
      @sebguyader 2 роки тому

      Yes now Reaper has oversampling available at the single plugin level or at the plugin chain level. Really cool, so I think you don't need to bother with implementing oversampling yourself.

    Thank you for your great work for the community!
    I would like to know, is there something else happening between the master and the channel plugins (the "summing stage")?
    If yes, could you maybe give a short explanation. I'm fascinated by the topic, but I'm not finding a lot of information.

    • @johnmatthews8435
      @johnmatthews8435  2 роки тому

      Between the channel inputs and the master all the audio processing is happening: All your mixing plugins, PAN, fader...
      So the input-side and masterbus plugins can't directly interact audio data. The plugins are just share control data across the whole project.

    • @malo374
      @malo374 2 роки тому

      I don't know what kind of summing plugins are contained in Harrison Mixbus or Luna, but do you think, they are doing something similar? Honest question, because technically...
      (I don't wan't to fight, I hope you understand what I mean, I really like your plugins)

    • @johnmatthews8435
      @johnmatthews8435  2 роки тому +1

      @@malo374 I'm not so sure, what and how Universal Audio and Harrison are doing within the DAWs. Harrison seems to have kinda 'built in' plugins in each channel and in the master, just as SumThing. Luna just seems to put sound signature between the audio from the sequencer and the inserts. (just as the input stage of SumThing.)

    Hi Matthews!! Thanks for sharing your Plugins with us. I have a question about the adder Sum Thing, So from Colombia and I record Vallenato and for example I record several accordions that I send to a bus or folder, is it possible that I only apply the adder only to the bus or do I have to insert it in all the tracks? thank you

    • @johnmatthews8435
      @johnmatthews8435  Рік тому

      Of course it it possible to use just the adder. The idea is, that every track gets it's saturation from the channel instances. But that's no must. You can use "sum thing SI" on the bus, so you could add saturation to the bus too.

    Hi John, is this summing thing a substitue for transformer channels like in logic daw?

  • @ramspencer5492
    @ramspencer5492 2 роки тому

    Is this a coloring plug-in or an actual alternative summing products that bypasses the DAW's internal summing? What is it actually doing? Thanks. It Sounds good whatever it is doing....

    • @johnmatthews8435
      @johnmatthews8435  2 роки тому

      Summing is summing (2+3+4=9) ... The plugin imitates the input stage of a (summing) mixer (Tubes/Transistors/Transformers) and the output stage (Summing stage). So it is a coloring plugin(s) around the actual summing. Just as it is in analog gear.

    • @johnmatthews8435

      Use it to your wishes. I'd put the channel-plugins in the channel as first plugin. And the Master somewhere in the master-chain. But that's totally up to your creativity and workflow.
