@@itsoundshuman Sure, I came from FL, Ableton so I'd recommend some scripts to make the beatmaking easier and faster in Reaper. RS5K manager, McSequencer, MArpeggiator, Chordgun, Item modifiers, MIDI Ex Machina, mx tuner, Juliansander multi midi tools etc.
I haven't explored Chordgun enough. One of my pending. :)
@ranajoyshil That's kinda crazy you left FL & Ableton specifically to do midi production in Reaper. I understand it can be done, but I struggle to see why anyone would choose to. Especially if they have those other 2 options. Why did you end up choosing Reaper? Because it has better cpu performance?
I've owned (& still own bitwig & Studio one) all the major daws, and I've always returned to Reaper simply for its intuitveness for audio recording and mixing. But I rarely use it for midi other than little finishing touches because it's kinda painfull lol. I so most of that in Maschine and track it out into Reaper. Imo reaper has a long way to go to make its midi production process attractive. I'd love a simplified and better performing audio quantization process also. There's a few audio editing features it still needs to improve on.
@@EricJohnson-fh8zj The simple answer is customization and flexibility. Both FL and Ableton has decent producer focused tools out of the box but the workflow is not customizable at all. You'll be using the daw the way the devs have designed and there's no other ways around. I've used Ableton longer than Reaper or any other daw, I've also used bitwig for few weeks but it lacked too many features for me as the only good thing about it was its vast range of modulation capabilities. Used Pro tools, Cubase, Studio one, Reason etc. as well.
Reaper indeed excels for audio editing and recording stuff but for midi it's a relatively bad experience out of the box, I agree. BUT, after you spend a bit of time customizing the midi editor, adding hotkeys and toolbar buttons to actions that has no hotkey assigned and add handful of community made scripts, IMHO the piano roll becomes many many times more powerful, faster, efficient than pretty much any other DAW I've ever tried. There are so many stuff about the piano roll that's hidden in Reaper and before I used to think the same about the piano roll as well which is why i basically give every other daws a shot and the more i used other daws, the more i appreciated reaper. I can work much much faster and more efficient with my customized piano roll in reaper and there are so many scripts made by the community that adds number of features and workflows that other daws don't even have lol. And I'm not even counting the other benefits that you get for using reaper like insane cpu optimization, no track types, powerful routing etc.
I agree, if they change most of the default configs of Reaper (as I said most of the cool piano roll stuffs as are hidden) and improve some of the built in tools such as the sampler and add some of the scripts as native features, it will be the best producer daw in the world because for me it's already is as I've already wasted years of life learning pretty much every major daw out there.
In 2020 I was going to move from Ableton Live to Reaper, for all of my hardware-prep tutorials, simply because I wanted to use something my viewers all had access to. I made lots of beats in Reaper, and I have a folder full of Reaper projects to this day. Ultimately, the lack of a feature-rich sampler led me to abandon Reaper in this regard. Nonetheless, I haven't watched your upload yet, and I'm excited to get into it. :)
Yeah the stock sampler itself is not as powerful as Live's Simpler or Sampler. You can combine many built in features to get closer and save that as a track template. I tried making a video on a track made using the sampler alone. I ended feelinh it was too much work without getting close to the result. :)
You could've just use a 3rd party sampler and not lose everything Reaper has to offer for that.
