GRA Episode 9: Return to Maine Part 1: Thin Air, Stunning Views, and...a Skunk?
In 2021 we found our "second home" by way of an incredible AirBnB we rented on the shore of Lake Saint George outside of Liberty, ME. With an exodus from the East Coast looming in the near future, we wanted to be sure we got at least one last trip in. In this first of two parts we camp two nights on our way north, squeeze Truckosaurus down some Class IV roads, summit Mount Washington in incredible conditions, and finally arrive in Liberty.
Not wasting any time, Havoc gets to swim his heart out while we take in all the familiar sights, sounds, and tastes...like John's Ice Cream Factory!
Follow us up Ragged Mountain where there's fine dining on Next Mile Meals as well as a breathtaking sunset.
All's not well, however, as an unwanted guest threatens to completely derail an idyllic trip.

GRA - Episode 3: Overcoming Fear for Magnificent Views

Thwarted from earlier attempts due to wildfires, April and I tackled the rock scramble to Duncan Knob in Virginia's George Washington National Forest. Her lack of confidence in her balance, however, almost got the best of her. With a small tumble at the beginning, our day was looking like it may end early. With some coaxing and coaching, however, she put one foot in front of the other and pushe...
GRA - Episode 2: Seneca Rocks, WV From Below and Far Above!

We found an amazing Hipcamp site on the vast expanse of private property east of Seneca Rocks! We spent two incredible nights with some of the darkest skies around with a full day of exploring the area on Saturday. Join us as we freeze waiting for the sun to rise, climb straight up the fall line, and explore the area from hundreds of feet above the ground. This trip served as a stark reminder t...

Sure...technically, it's our second video, but start here! Maybe grab a glass of your favorite beverage...it's not, exactly, light-hearted. But we hope this message finds those that need to hear it. On June 8, 2019, our world was completely turned upside down with rather unwelcome news. Little did we know, just over a month later, things would never...ever...be the same, no matter how hard anyo...
GRA - Episode 1: Beauty of the Virginia Highlands

In this first stab at sharing our adventures, we bring you along with us and the dogs to The Scales campground just north of Grayson Highlands State Park in southwestern Virginia. The wild ponies were everywhere and the weather incredible for our 2.5-day/3 night stay. Had the weather not taken a serious downturn on Christmas, we'd have stayed even longer as the peace and quiet of this place is ...
I just stumbled on your video nice job I look forward to to watching more and future content
Glad to have you along for the ride!
Great video! What's the song/band at about the 8:30 minute mark?
Thank you! It's "I Fell Into Heaven" by Oliver Penny. I found it through the Soundstripe license PowerDirector has. app.soundstripe.com/songs/16937
I. AM. SO. GREATFUL! Great videos, and music. Thank you.
My pleasure and thanks for the kind words! Heading to Maine now so more to come!
@Gra yRibbonAdventures I love, and miss Maine! Looking forward to seeing your adventures.
I got a rookie question what are you using for maps
Primarily GAIA to build routes, mark waypoints and have up on my head unit for navigation. I'll use OnX Off Road as well to look for actual routes and trail conditions. Google Maps and Google Earth satellite imagery is fantastic for finding open areas and spotting campsites. GAIA satellite imagery is a joke. Finally, I use a Garmin Overlander as back-up navigation. It's come in handy when having to reroute where there's no signal and I failed to download offline maps. It's also nice as I can search the iOverlander catalog offline.
GREAT 360 VIEW
Thanks!
Ive been living tucked up in Yukon beside the Coast Ranges for 40 years but the Rockies will alwsys be my number 1 Thanks for this Cheers
So glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching! While I've loved the time we've spent in Whistler and Blackcomb...there's just nothing like the Rockies.
Oops, I left a comment for this video in a previous video somehow 🤷🏼♂️ 🤣
Happens to the best of us with the passage of time 😆
@@GrayRibbonAdventures 😆😆😆😆…so what are you saying exactly lol 🤣
Only that you and I are like a fine wine or bourbon!
People will forever be aholes unfortunately. Wife and I attempted to camp well outside Moab one year, same deal, so much broken glass everywhere (BLM land), that is was impossible to remove it all…or even to a point I felt comfortable with our K-9 to safely walk around close to camp. Then there was the local “chef” cooking in this “trailer” few hundred yards away. Sad really
Outstanding footage!! Thanks for sharing and congratulations on the new property. Best of luck to the both of you!
Thanks, my man! Glad you enjoyed it and appreciate the love.
This is awesome! You do such a great job on these. I enjoyed every second of this❤️❤️
Very enjoyable my friends. Marilyn Manson, did not see that one coming 😂
Thanks, Bill! Sweet, little April has a bit of an...oh really!?... side to her 😆 She used to show up to her elementary school with her "teacher clothes" in her little Ford Escort with Nine Inch Nails blasting out of it as she opened the door 🤟
Hey kids. So happy to see you both on this adventure. Love that rig. Will try to catch all your episodes. Waiting to see you closer to Arizona. My yard boy and his beautiful girlfriend sure are grown up with cool toys.❤
Yes'm, Miss Diana! 🤣😂 Thanks so much for watching and we miss you!
There is such an amazing lack of other people.
You noticed that, too, huh? 😉. We actually startled a guy that was up there fishing on his day off with his trusty labrador. He came around the corner and jumped when he saw our truck. Nice guy just looking to get away from people…just like us!
Awesome guys. Apparently we missed an ep….going back to check
Casey thanks for sharing. Good to see you and April out living your best life. Best of luck bro!
Thanks so much, Amos! Great to see you two getting out there, too!
<3 You Guys <3
Right back atcha!
Wow! The scenary reminded me of the LOTR movies. Question: when the dogs do it, shouldn't it be 'BARKOUR' instead of 'parkour'? Asking for a friend . . . . 🙂
Awwwww, maaaaan! Missed opportunity! 😂🤣
What an amazing story my guy! I can say I find that same healing in being outdoors and exploring. If your ever over my way near Pocahontas county WV hit me up. Would love to go do some camping/ exploring. I’m hoping to hit Colorado and Utah this year. Been building my rig to do so. Glad to see another full size rig for the trails. Bless your wife, may she continue to heal and strive 💪. Maybe see ya on the trails one day
Thanks so much for watching and the well wishes...always appreciated. We'll, for sure, be in touch. Gorgeous country there! And here's to hoping you get out west this year. Happy to share what we found in Colorado...we have yet to spend a lot of time in Utah! We built Truckasaurus for last year's month-long trip all over CO, WY, MT, and SD and it was absolutely incredible. Definitely some advantages (so...much...space) and disadvantages (really...really...tight fits!).
@@GrayRibbonAdventures yeah the really tight fits definitely get us 😆. But honestly the trade off of having that comfortable room for these longer excursions is hard to beat. That and more payload, more towing, more power, and honestly better fuel mileage then I’ve seen on some 4 runners just because of the weight they are carrying and the engine working itself to death. But definitely keep in touch. I watched you Seneca rocks video as well. That’s an hour from me. I need to get back there with the drone again. It’s fascinating.
Holy cow! This is such an incredible snapshot of Fourth Moon Camp. Thank you so much for visiting... Can't wait to see you return! I feel compelled to fill in some details from your stay! We gotta get a bench up on that hillside with the sunrise view. This video made that so clear! The old foundation you found used to be an old feed silo from the farm homesteads that used to be back there. The East face trail you took up to the top is NO joke. Not only steep, but with unstable footing at times, requiring you to use your hands. Very impressive you romped up there, but the views clearly make it worth it ;) I'm going to have to show you some of our exceptional trails I forgot to mention while you were here. You'll love visiting those next time you're here. You can see for over ten miles to Spruce Knob!
I'll, for sure, lug April's heated camp chair up the hill next time! ;) Very cool re: the feed silo! I love finding evidence of structures past. I'd love to know the story of how that car ended up flipped in the creek. I've a feeling it involved too many libations. We'll, definitely, take you up on the offer of additional trails when we return. We fully intend on coming back when we pick up our new trailer this summer, so we can basecamp out of there. Just so much to see between Seneca, Spruce Knob, the Sods... Until next time!
@@GrayRibbonAdventures ...Blackwater falls, Canaan Valley, Smoke Hole/Chimney Rock, the caverns... How long can we convince you to stay? ;)
Thanks for sharing brother. A tough watch, but a good one. I am really happy thinking back at all the positive changes that have been made over the last few years.
If only you could zoom in more from that drone. ;-)
Oh. You got jokes now, huh? 😂 Just found out DJI has a factory refurb. Might have to rearrange that priority list! Try not to be so surprised 😜😇
Dammit, who's chopping onions?
It’s those damn onion ninjas, John!
❤
Ima heart your heart...now what!?
🤔 😂
I watched it 3 times. I meant to tell you guys how awesome it was-the scenery, the voice over, the music. It is so cool to document your adventures like that. Looking forward to the next one!
You won't have to wait long!
First😊 Awesome
You now hold a precious place in history, Bill! Thanks for all the support, brother. More to come!
