Timing, timing, timing... being on time, being on time, being on time. That's my main problem, even when I sing. No problem when starting. But as playing or singing are going on, I sometime forget the timing. Thanks and thanks. Congratulations! From Cameroon, the heart of Africa, I mean of the world.
Great video Lauren! Celebrating 3 years of playing guitar. Only regret is that I didn’t start much earlier. I play every day as best I can. Thank-you for your enthusiasm and never ending encouragement!
Nice lesson! I got better at strumming before it was over so great work! My wife made me a pick container too, because my picks were scattered everywhere😂
From the mouth of Andy Powers, paraphrased, “we put elixir coated strings on our new guitars because they last a long time on the shelf. Someone might buy one of our guitars 6 months after it’s built. The strings will still be good. He went on to say, put on whatever strings you and your guitar like.”
Hi there, l just love your bubbly character and the way you present your lesson 🙏 I've been playing for a number of years and, there's always something new to learn. I would love for you to do some Travis finger picking patterns as well. It would be interesting I'm sure 👍
I start off slow and end up going faster and faster, even though I have tried the metronome, but at times I am ahead of the clicks. Anyway, it is a matter of practice timing and maybe my concentration is focused on changing chords...With practice, I shall overcome these minor hiccups....Best wishes from a cold and wet Cape Town, South Africa...
After I damaged my hand I had to go from being a left hand player to a right hand player. Your classes have helped me to transition. I appreciate your teaching methods. Thank you. I am an older player. I'll be 63 this summer. I changed the strings from 12s to the phosphor bronze custom lights on my 214ce dlx and 224 ce dlx koa. I left the strings on my 724ce koa stock. They are 12-53 DiAdarrio XS phosphor Bronze.
Great advice on strumming even tho mine sucks Lol! i do have a question for you. do nylon strings sound different than steel or other type strings? I notice chords sound different on your guitar than mine even tho I realize you play a much more expensive guitar than I do. Thank you and ROLL TIDE!
Hey Lauren, I have an unexpected happy accident that allowed me to be a better strummer almost instantly. I never would have guessed that another guitar would be the answer. I went from clang clang clang to smooth strum after I spent a day with a 12-string guitar. Now I strum 6 and 12 string guitars with ease. When I couldn't get strumming down for the longest time, I went strictly fingerstyle guitar. But now I'm using strum patterns I couldn't get before. I don't know if it works for everyone. But try a 12-strring and it may teach your subscribers how to strum lighter and smoother. Just an idea.
Hi Lauren. I just love the way you teach snd explain. You're the best. I am a self taught 'guitarist', ten years now, but have never been able to play Barre chords. Is it time to retire from playing this instrument? I am sad.😢
I'm a newby, but I learn fast. I'm still messing around with strings; weight, coatings, etc. I haven't found my bliss yet... but I'm getting damn good at changing strings!
You are just simply a great teacher. It’s like the one class you have all day you actually enjoy going to. I take something away from every video you create. Thanks for making my playing always a little better. 🎼
Hey Lauren, one of the issues other than beginners stuff. Is I have parkinsons disease, it's effected might right side. Money is an issue. Guitar has been awesome in helping me, through the day the problem varies in if can play at all. I can boom chucka strum. Are there exercises in holding the pick, also strumming exercises which help stretch my arm. Perhaps you could try talking to the Michael J Fox foundation to work on. I really enjoy play and utilising your techniques. Thanks for your help so far
Peter, I just did a video the other day on good stretched for guitar playing. It probably won't be out for another week or two, but keep an eye out for it. If you haven't looked into Black mountain pics, you might want to check that out. They have light pics with a spring on them which requires less fingers for you to actually hold the pic comfortably.
Right on. I use a Dunlop grip .38 as light as possible. I put med strings on my guitar and the combo sounds awesome. I’ve got 8 chords down solid. The pair together sound fantastic. Now I just need to get timing and strumming down. Thanks for the videos
Lauren, I am 35 but because of my disability I have to go slow and I appreciate your pace because many other teachers I've had go way too fast for me and try to advance too quickly. I like your method of starting at the bottom and slowly working up. It's much easier and more realistic for me to try to play that way...not to mention fun!
Yes, unfortunately I don't have any movement in the wrist. I feel as though I'm strumming with a log and unable to grip a pick for long. The pick constantly changes orientation. Do you think finger picking is a more viable option? Thanks for the reply.
These little "mechanical" details are so valuable, and so rare in YT vids about guitar. Like info about picks and the rotation axis of your hand, this info is not apparent or intuitive to beginners, it needs to be explained and you do an excellent job of it. Thank you.
I was sorry to miss your event in Edinburgh. I live back in Ireland now but used to live literally around the corner from where you had the Edinburgh workshop 👍🏻 Keep up the great work Lauren

Ha ha ha. Good for her!
LOVE this! Lighter pick, lighter strings, easier to hear if you are "stiff" with your hand. Also easier to help you relax your strumming hand.
Awesome

Hi Erik! I'm doing great :D Thanks for watching
Thanks Lauren - What kind of Taylor are you playing ? Looks and sounds great and at the end of the year thinking of upgrading to a Taylor. Thanks
This is the Taylor 324ce Builder's Edition.

100% the more you practice the faster it will come. As with anything, it takes a little time but you will get there.
Can you double/triple strum?
Triplet strumming? I talk about that a bit in my course.
What's the point of all of this? Great Lesson .

Yeah, every guitar has a different life to it with different strings.

Hi Lauren ... kind regards from Germany
Hello!!!
Are there any lessons on the strumming course that are not already accessible on your UA-cam? Very interested
Oh yeah. Tons of them!!! I just added a whole electric guitar rock module to the course. You won't find any of that on UA-cam.
I never used a pick, I'm a beginner. Should I bother with one?
Thanks for watching! You can buy one but not required. Please do watch this video: ua-cam.com/video/BaY1NtgolNw/v-deo.html

1. Working through a wrist injury that csuse fusing. Any recommendations as to how to best use a pick? I've been using my fingers for strummimg
Ouch. That's a new one on me. In more the about the supination VS pronation or the twist on the wrist. Not sure how your injury impacts that.
Yes, unfortunately I don't have any movement in the wrist. I feel as though I'm strumming with a log and unable to grip a pick for long. The pick constantly changes orientation. Do you think finger picking is a more viable option? Thanks for the reply.
