Real world gain is only ~60hp, based on C&D's testing. It's about the same speed as M3 CS (543hp). Most of the gain is taking credit for BMW's underrating power (stock is ~600hp). 1/4 mile is 10.6 @ 130mph (vs 10.7 @ 129mph for CS), which suggests ~660hp given 3900lbs. Acceleration matches the 5400lb 717hp G90 M5. I respect Dinan but this thing is definitely not adding 230hp.
"Basic" Upgrade that will reduce the durability of the engine by a lot. Aluminum has no infinite cycle life, so all power mods shorted the life of the components.
@@jamesoso259 why do you think it doesn't translate to performance then? +200hp only adding 0.1sec and 1mph in 1/4 mile? Steve Dinan himself admits that ~100hp of it just from BMW underrating.
Zack has been waiting for this moment for months to follow thru on posting that Dinan clip to social media, like he said he would. Truly a man of his word 🤣
Fantastic! But I'm an old-school M3 guy. We're talking really old, like 2002, so these video game like M's are for those who will truly enjoy the experience.
Awesome production value Zack. Keep it up! I know it's been tough for ya'll gaining subs and views....Stick with it. Ask around other UA-camrs for their input.
I have the Millway mono all control arm bushings on my G80. That’s what is causing that “crack-crack” as you traverse those lateral imperfections. But they add a lot of steering precision and feel.
"Unlike a banana taped to a wall, there's more than meets the eye." Legendary comment. I do not however, like the name "Carbahn." It sounds too much like "Carvana." But I'm a nobody so that goes out the window.
Crazy platforms these cars, they can handle power so well and are reliable. Boot mod or MHD stage 1 Makes 700+ stage 2 is like 800 crazy fast on pump and even more with a splash of e blend. I’d have one if I wasn’t in love with V8s
I'd like a ride in the RR Wraith that's tuned-up to 1100 hp. They were able to keep the Rolls' impeccable aesthetics and ride quality, while giving it a sub-3 sec 0-60.
Great review, I'm getting an M3comp and are planning on using this platform to tune. It would have been nice to see some real world 0 to 60- and 1/4-mile times with the upgrades.
I've been waiting for this one a long time. The perfect all rounder. I cannot imagine of what it is capable of at the Nurbourgring. What's next? Maybe a Carbahn M2 G87 CSL. Thank you Steve Dinan.
I feel like csl masked a pretty significant amount of the experience. If the modifications help accentuate the speed, i think the trade off would be worth it personally. But everyone’s different
Love the cartoon watch, what is that? Also, 200 lb weight saving is pretty incredible. Bushing squish test is the hard stop to a standstill jiggle test. Would love to see that converted to a video-fyable format test with a fast g-meter or something. I don't think anyone has done that.
I got to drive the stick 22' M4 with a 6 speed and I was blown away up in Latigo and Mulholland . Had the same seats, but no carbon ceramics 😢( it definitely needs them). That must feel like a missile.
Cool review. Now that a few guys (Litchfiled UK are one) have figured out how to load the 911 ST shock software to the 992 GT3, it would be interesting to get a car with that software and compare the ride quality again.
Great review Zach. Thoroughly enjoying your narratives in reviews as of late. I listened to the podcast with Steve Dinan when it first came out and have been looking forward to this review for awhile. A few questions: Did Steve Dinan say anything about modifying base G80/82 with the manual transmission, or do you have experience driving some yourself? I have a base G80 that I've really warmed to (minus the front-end design which I think I'm getting used to and weirdly think looks good when the car is in motion) and I want more 'feel and feedback' in the steering department than what we get from factory. Did you find more more feedback from the steering with these upgrades by chance? Does Dinan address steering feel and feedback more in private conversations? Thanks for your time and effort in producing and delivering great automotive journalism.
Let’s get serious this is for crazy rich dudes who have everything. A stock M3/M4 is more than enough and crazy fast. Most people will never come near its limits which are so sky high. Credit that this car exists and love the quality engineering.
Zack - You should consider launching your own channel. Not encouraging you to leave smoking tire in any way, but it would probably do well and get a good initial growth, which would appease the YT algo gods. It’s fast growth might even help the discoverability of smoking tire with the right strategy.
@@Nick22257 that would be tough considering he is already getting points with the smoking tire. how would he even decide which cars go to his channel and which cars he reviews for the smoking tire? at this point, it would be tough to beat the established user base of the smoking tire, anyway.
@@jonathank4416 fair, i just miss the modified car reviews. Drivers era dual purpose/clubsport cars are significantly more relatable, but I don’t disagree with you either
Once people stop talking about how the G80/82 looks and instead talk about how good/fast they are we will all finally grow to appreciate just what bmw has created. I’d drive one of these if I had the money.
I always back into parking spots so I can turn around as I walk away and see how good it looks. I’d just have to pull into spots with this one so I’d never have to look at the grille
Zack, it would really help if we didn't just talk about the purchase price when you get into the "how much it costs" segment. These modified cars depreciate and end up costing even more than a car costing much more upfront, e.g. over a 3-5 year period a Porsche 911 Carrera T will cost less as it barely depreciates. In a world where most people lease their cars, you should make mention of this.
What happened with DINAN ?? It's Steve out ? I always loved those Dinans from old. This one is very cool too but the brand DINAN is definitely more appealing than Carbahn
Comparing my s550 gt and a g82 made me want to sell my car for an s55/b58 powered car so badly. My mustang and s2000 have disappointed me a little bit coming from built subarus, and I’m hoping that the bmw inline 6s can give me some of that spice back without needing a built motor and turbo upgrade.
I really love my G82 M4. It doesn't need any more power or performance. I call the M1 button on the steering wheel "lose your license" button and the M2 button "Star on the evening news and have your car confiscated and crushed" button. But, it is such a capable car that it really does feel like it could handle another 250 horsepower easy.
I drove my friends m3 comp and I own a 128 weirdly I enjoy my car more for everyday the thing no one talks about is the fact that it feels like driving an m5 not a 3 series the car does shrink on you but still the car feels to big we’re on small canyon road you got to much power for size and your never hitting more then a quarter of the turbo unless you do 120 mph or higher ,
