    My ranking (excluding ‘Chamber of Secrets’ because that’s the only one I haven’t read):
    6. ‘Philosopher’s Stone’ - hated the writing style for this
    5. ‘Half-Blood Prince’ - I enjoy the pensive but Hermione is insufferable
    4. ‘Deathly Hallows’ - there are some exciting parts but it can be a little dull
    3. ‘Goblet of Fire’ - whimsy but also starting to get dark
    2. ‘Prisoner of Askaban’ - absolutely hysterical (made me laugh out loud on the tube!)
    1. ‘Order of the Phoenix’ - I love how real it is, Mcgonagall is even sassier which is brilliant and UMBRIDGE! I love a good villain and she terrifies me

    I love this! I am doing a Harry Potter re-read this year and I know it is going to take me forever because I am reading them out loud with my 7-year-old daughter. We are reading the illustrated editions right now too and they are so beautiful. I honestly don't remember which book was my favorite because it has been so long since I read them, I need to decide that after my re-read, but I remember it being Goblet of Fire when I was younger!

    Great video! I would rank them pretty close to the way you did. I was actually pleasantly surprise by #6 when I reread it. Maybe it because, like you said, it’s not the most memorable book which made it more fun to rediscover :)

      That's a good point about #6 actually, every time I read most of these I rediscover things I forgot about, but that one the most. It's always a pleasant reading experience regardless.

    How you feel about a book is so subjective, no need to apologise to anyone. 😁

    THAT’S IT! I AM REREADING THE BOOKS! 😂
    Prisoner of Azkaban is my favourite because I feel it is the only book with a relatively happy ending. No deaths, nothing to do with Voldemort in the entire book, but mostly because Harry finally meets Sirius and Lupin who were his parents best friends. Through them he got to know his parents better, and the fact that Sirius offers him a place to live so they can be a family 🥺😭😍 Harry absolutely deserves that! And that’s what makes OOTP my least favourite. For the reasons you said for sure, but because his god father is dead and his promise that they can be a family is no more 😭😭

    I’m reading Harry Potter for the first time this year! I’m reading a book every winter, spring, autumn and winter again month (so not May, June, July or August - although, I may start OotP in August because it’s the longest one. We’ll see!) I’m reading the 4th one next this month, after I finish Royal Assassin by Robin Hobb. I loved the first 3 books. I technically read books 2&3 when I was 10/11, but I got bored 3/4 of the way through your favourite so I gave up! I’m determined to finish it this time, as an adult though! I’ve seen movies 1-5 and maybe 6! No further yet. I’m watching each movie after I finish each book.

    We share the same favourite book in the series. My brother read 4 and a half books to me when I read them for the first time so the first 4 are very special to me. The other ones are the books that made me read till 2 at night so that's also iconic. I've only reread the first 4 books in dutch and stopped for a reason I dont know and last year I started rereading the series in english for the first time! I just reread Harry Potter and the prisoner of azkaban this month. Also since I have movie problems I watched Harry Potter and the order of the phoenix for the first time yesterday, I'm still terrified. I slept terribly because I kept getting dreams about what if these things happened now, like in the time of social media and it completely ruined my life. This is such a long comment. Love your face. Also I was upset that the sphinx wasnt in the movie for the goblet of fire.

    I kinda like your ranking! Kinda. I wanna talk about 3 of the books here:
    1. I have similar reasons for disliking Order of Phoenix - Umbridge is such a depressing villain because her evil is so non-magical and real, like our real-life politicians and people in power. Ugh.
    2. I LOVE Chamber of Secrets. I feel it gives us a glimpse into how well Rowling would write horror if she tried. Also I loved being introduced to young Voldy in this book. ALSO, "His eyes are as green as fresh pickled toad" is the greatest Valentine's day song ever written, in my humble opinion.
    3. I understand why you've got Goblet of Fire right on top - the wizarding world reaaaallly expands in this book, doesn't it? We see wizards of different nationalities and different schools! My biggest problem with this book is that the second and third tasks of the Triwizard Cup are terrible spectator sports - imagine sitting for hours just staring at an empty lake, or the outer hedges of a maze!

    • @GavinReadsItAll
      @GavinReadsItAll  4 роки тому

      Rowling should totally write more middle grade horror - she needs to get back to that. I need to re-read that Valentine's Day song now haha I vaguely remember it. And omg yes that's a fair point about the tasks for the tournament - that would be EXTREMELY boring. So do they just sit there twiddling their thumbs, talking to one another, until someone resurfaces or gets out of the maze? I don't get the logic on that one haha

    • @shreyabooked9309
      @shreyabooked9309 4 роки тому

      Here you go:
      His eyes are as green as fresh pickled toad,
      His hair is as dark as a blackboard.
      I wish he was mine, he's really divine,
      The hero who conquered the Dark Lord.
      As for the tournament, if, for example, there were the magical equivalent to CCTV cameras inside the maze so that spectators could watch the action, Moody-Crouch wouldn't have managed to sneak around fiddling with stuff as he was trying to make sure Harry reached the Cup. So a bit of a loophole there.

    My favorite movie is prisoner of Azkaban. I don't know why so many people hate it. I know there are alot of differences between it and the book but, i liked the changes.

    I did not like Harry Potter when I was a child. I was an advanced reader and my parents wanted to be challenged by my reading material. Unfortunately, my taste and maturity was not at all the same as my reading ability and I grew to hate the series because they thought a five-year-old who could read it on her own was sure to like it. It took me twelve years to give the series a second chance. I ended up reading all the books the summer after I finished school (literally finished Deathly Hallows on New Year's - yep, Southern Hemisphere summer. All the books were good, so even though Order of the Phoenix is my second favourite, okay.
    Also, I tend not to read to escape, I read to relate. This is the reason I'm not into fantasy, and probably one of the reasons I didn't like the series when I started reading it. If I'd had the books given to me at age seven, maybe I would have liked them more. My reasoning: There are very few kids who have not been to school, have worried about making friends, have tried to keep up with work, have had that one teacher that hates them...there's more, but one of my second-year uni courses, "Writing For Children", required me to write pieces about all of our readings, and Philosopher's Stone was one - and I chose my mini-essay to answer the question about how much of the book reflected life for any eleven-year-old (If you want to know, our other readings were Margaret Mahy's "A Summery Saturday Morning", Joy Cowley's "Hunter", Roald Dahl's "The BFG" and I don't remember the author, but it was a picture book called "Clubs". I didn't like "Hunter" much, but the two picture books weren't a big deal to flip through, and I loved rereading the other two and looking at all the questions in the booklet about them. I think I WAS five when I first read "The BFG", but Roald Dahl is so easy and engaging. He really does grab the little blighter by the throat, and Sophie is not only relatable, but she proves to be bright, brave and resourceful.
    One more - just realized you're wearing Ravenclaw robes! Yo, fellow Ravenclaw!

    Confession time: I've never actually finished the series! I stopped after book 4 - because of the reason you didn't like book 5 and 6 as much. It got too adult without any of the magical fun and escapism. Cedric's death and the lack of quidditch really did me in. It didn't help that it came after probably the happiest and funniest book, Prisoner of Azkaban, with Harry finally finding a family member who loves him and getting the Dursleys off his back and the hilarious quidditch cup with Lee Jordan and Professor McGonagall. It had some dark elements and the mystery, but balanced it so that it was still an escape.
    Now on to my absolute rant (shortened because of comments): Snape. I absolutely hate him. He was another reason why I just couldn't continue after the fourth book. As someone who was bullied by my teachers in elementary school, I can say for certain that his bullying towards the big three, Neville, and everyone else - I don't care what anyone says about justifying it because he was a double agent or that he had a tough childhood. I was bullied and there is no way in HELL that I would act like that as a teacher! There is no justification for his actions and Dumbledore dropped in my opinion because he didn't fire the asshole on the spot. I honestly started hating Harry Potter before everyone else (after the later books which shall not be named) because J.K. Rowling tried to make him redeemable, when there was no apology or consequences for his shitty, bullying, abusive behavior towards children. He is the equivalent of Umbridge to me (another reason I didn't continue - I didn't need that toxicity in my life after already having authority figures (teachers) abuse their power to belittle me and my sister.
    Ahem... Okay, I'm done. Basically I totally agree with what you said about it losing its magic and charm in the later books (though I experienced that earlier than you with the 4th book) and its peak was the 3rd book. I'm just going to put aside the fact that you said the 4th book was your favorite because otherwise, you make completely valid points. XD

      Ashley Kishibay ahh sorry to hear about your experience with the poor teachers and the bullying. No teacher should ever abuse their power like that, and it’s also why I don’t like Snape in the books. In the films, it can come across a bit differently so I don’t mind him as much in the films, but in the books, he is totally irredeemable. Prisoner of Azkaban is pretty much perfect, so at least you’ll always have the first 3 books 💙

      @@GavinReadsItAll It's interesting because one of the reasons I love Order of the Phoenix is because it felt a bit more epic-fantasy-like, increased world building, slower pace, deeper character development etc! (also my favourite characters are the twins, and this book is of course where they shine!) The other interesting thing is, the Philosopher's Stone was my no.7, BUT i love the first film for the reasons you said you love the earlier books! That exciting fun magic-ness about them, when everything's new to Harry...Maybe I look for different elements in books compared to movies or something!
