  • Camera bags can cost a lot of money, but there's ways to get good camera bags for a lot less if you look at what's available outside of the big brand names.
I use three bags of different sizes, depending on what I need on a shoot.
None of them are too big and bulky, and none were expensive.
Let me know in the comments what bag(s) you use, and if you were able to save money when you shopped for a bag.

For years I went around with a simple padded canvas shoulder bag witha couple of lenses, batteries and a camera. But after I started this youtube thingy....guess what, I had to fish my big bag out of the closet, to fit my drone, 2 tripods, a monopod, 2 cameras and gimbal for my phone....it's ridiciilous, and am am centuries away from gettng paid for it it all, lol
    But you are right!

Oh and my photo rucksack is a LowePro CompuTrekker I think. Had it for at least 15 years.

Great video about a subject that can draw you down a rabbit hole of trouble looking for the perfect bag. Personaly i quit looking for camera bags and bought a messenger bag and a small regular backpack and created my own dividers using a lot of gaffer tape and foam plastic :D

I've had several people tell me that a regular backpack is better made than most dedicated camera bags. And if they are cheaper as well, that's the way to go.

    Hi Greg,
For many, many years I have used Sansonite camera bags. They are very well made, don't cost much, and do the job brilliantly. BTW, I have a Lowepro the same as yours, but it is less well padded than Sansonites! I have a Sansonite the same size as the Lowepro, ideal for my wife's X-E2, one a tad bigger for my X-T3, and one that is designed for a video camera for my X-T3 with 16-80 lens and a flash gun. That's my 'kit' bag that I take on holiday, and cost about £20, the most expensive of them all. I can't remember what the Lowepro cost, I originally bought it for my son!

Sounds good. You got better prices than here in Australia... the Samsonite website doesn't have any of those cheaper bags on offer. Ebay has them though, and buying used also saves you $$

Bought a Lowepro 500II from Aliexpress for less than half what I can buy it here in NZ. Problem is, its too big and now I am in the process of filling it... for what reason? Now wanting a bag somewhere in between the small one and medium one you've shown. 1 Camera with lens and another lens or flash. (plus wallet and phone)

Compare that big bag with a 20l Bunnings Bucket.

Normally I don't take a bag when I go out taking photos, just one camera on a strap round my neck.
If I'm out with my 150-600 I don't take any other lenses.
If I'm out with my 105 macro I'll maybe take a nifty fifty in a pocket.
If I'm doing street with my 25 I'll sometimes take my 50-230
    Don't be a gear slave.

I have many bags so I can pick the smallest kit to do the task ... 🦘
