I have been waiting for another spy game! 😊 If I may I would suggest to always use your Great Spy for Scotland Yard, if you are doing a spy economy that is, which means converting gold into spy points and not only doubling your 6 points from palace and courthouse. It is basically Oxford for the espionage economy and you often just get one Great Spy. When you started spying you had about 150 spy points in the capital, so after only 20-25 turns this is already the better deal AND you don't put all beans in one basket, in this case a nut like Huayna who turned out to be an idiot after a few turns. Plus you get the benefits all game long. It sounds a bit counterintuitive due to the massive 3000 points, I agree. And in a "normal" game of course it is better to use it on one specific target if you get the Spy due to Great Wall. I hope this helps. Keep posting your amazing input! 🙂
Another goodish use of great spy is just to settle him if you're running Representation, as he'll generate extra beakers on top of his big pile of spy points per turn.

@@mickjaegar2379 tbh it breaks any AI, if anyone has a high amount of spy points on a particular ai it'll force them to run spy slider at 20%. Some do it just to be bastards anyways. 20% spy slider means 40% instead of 60% research which is 1/3 slower tech. It really screws them up. However huayna not building cottages is skill issue
So back before I discovered YT playthroughs TGW spy economy was my go to when I played and it was a good strategy. Sometimes, in that closest city the AI stacks spies and thats why they are getting caught. I would split my force in two closest and best cities and see how that goes. Sometimes, the cheapest city will only have a 65% chance to succeed. While you could walk two more turns and it be 93%. So, you have to look at that too. But man, definitely abort those missions on Vilcas.
1:19:50 I didn't even know Sitting Bull *could* make tribute demands. Usually he just gets bullied by one of bigger AI because he went into the wrong religion
I won't say it's effective because it probably isn't, but my absolute favorite use of spies is to spread my culture in cities bordering my territory. The more you run that mission, the more it costs, but it starts turning into miniature culture bombs when you do it.
Yeah, Mediocre Attempts even had a cultural victory with this strategy on the Earth18 map by "infecting" Inca with his culture and creating three legendary cities only with spy points before conquering them. Amazing strategy!
Fun game so far, game is definitely different when you don't have a tech lead for the whole game! If you are planning to use the espionage slider for the most of the game then Scotland yard is definitely the better choice, it is basically a double Academy which is usually the first use of a Great Scientist. Otherwise your target is going to have their spy slider fixed on 20% which hurts their teching and your stealing... Also with Huayna you didn't have open borders, which will increase the chance of your Spy's being found each turn....Your best bet is to keep 1 spy only in their two closest cities and avoid stacking your own since this also increases the chance, keep your other spies just inside your border ready to replace them after each steal.
@@henrik9658 with scotland yard it can realistically go into your highest commerce city (double gems anyone? :) since you will likely run Nationalism more so than Bureau

However, I didn't notice any other instances like this in this session/video, and overall the background noise didn't seem too bad. Of course, maybe that's due to skillful editing which I'm not trying to say you haven't been doing. However, given how in previous videos I often can tell when there's been a short cut/edit due to noise, I find that hard to believe. There was absolutely no break at all; I could tell you were speaking the entire time. All things considered, I HIGHLY suspect that a UA-cam algorithm automatically censored "Christ" out of when you said that someone was spreading Christianity religion to you. That's not your fault. I'll be submitting a complaint to UA-cam customer service, not that any of them will likely care, and then delete the app. Sorry, I won't be coming back to your absolutely amazing content and I'll miss it for sure, but I'm really getting fed up by tech and media corporations censoring Christianity.

Reason I didn't do scottland yard is my capital is pretty underwhelming.

Question: Do spies perform a counter-espionage function if stationed in one of your own cities? Or are they only useful for stealing techs?
Does the spy economy only work at high difficulty levels where you're guaranteed to be behind on tech?
I think it works on any level if you turn on the slider to get what you need and steal what you don't need as much tbh
