    FYI to all BMW 135/ 335i/535i owners, (OXwerkz performance solutions) makes a plate that protects the front main seal in the event of a belt failure, I ended up paying a shop to do this job on my 335i and it was expensive ! the plate is a bit pricey @ $139 but not compared to pulling the oil pan @ around $1k !

    Nice job man! The same thing happened to my '09 535xi! Luckily I shut it down after only driving about 1/4 mile (happened at the end of my street). I was able to extract all of the belt from around the crank hub and account for all of it give or take. Replaced the Front Main seal with no special tools! Use a modified old regular seal puller and re-installed by gently tapping with a steel pipe of the same diameter. Lastly, I added some duct take to the back of the harmonic balancer to push the seal flush! (I could not justify buying the $400 tool set!) Fixed the oil leak in the filter housing as well. Now I keep a close eye on the belt. I hope the motor is OK, I think it will be based on my experience, fingers crossed. Also, I didn't bother with the special BMW Sealant to install the seal. I read that using Permatex Ultra Black Oil Resistant RTV will work and it worked great! www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002UEN1U/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Good Luck!

      Thanks! Glad you were able to repair yours as well. I had about a foot and a half I pulled out of the seal, but found out that enough had been shaved away by the chain to get a whole bunch stuck in the oil pickup tube. Hopefully none got near yours. That's good that you were able to save the $ on the seal job as well.

    Happened to me at the worst possible time imaginable. I was on the interstate coming home during rush hour bumper to bumper 3 lanes of traffic. There was accident ahead. I was sitting idle completely surrounded for like a mile. Then the belt snapped and I could not go anywhere. Sad to see that car go. It was my 3rd BMW I had owned. I worked for. Dealership at the time. They inspected and showed me what happened and that I was really f-ed on this one. Ever since my fist E36 the problems only got worse with each new model E30 (My dad's I learned to drive on (5 speed) the autobahn. Then my own E36 (perfect car), E46 then an E90. So after this I was done with BMW. I went to Lexus and Nissan. Lexus coupe and a Nissan Truck. Bros and Women don't walk up and compliment me on my car anymore but; so many less headaches,

    So essentially. If your belt breaks you have to teardown a whole engine to double check the damage... guess I'm just gunna sell the car cause no way I'm doing all that

    Can you try to explain how you removed the two front bolts on the subframe, as they just keep turning but there’s no room to hold the nut from the top side of the frame.

    • @FoulNews
      @FoulNews  Рік тому +1

      Do you mean the bolts that are towards the front right underneath the steering rack? If so, those can stay on. If you want to keep the rack in place, it's a bit more complicated and requires the subframe to be lowered to get access to the top of the steering rack to hold the bolts from spinning, but then the rack coming out of the subframe is a pain to do while the rack is still on the car.

    • @CarlosGarcia-vb8ln
      @CarlosGarcia-vb8ln Рік тому

      @@FoulNews yes those bolts were a pain we had to drop the whole suspension first to get the subframe to drop down a bit enough to remove those bolts. Only thing left for us now hopefully is to remove the differential to be able to drop the oil pan. We have it all unbolted but won’t come loose

    I have a 16 n55 with 25k miles with this issue. Surprised it pulls in so much belt trash. thanks for the vid.

      Sorry to hear, that's unfortunate. It's definitely an overlooked design flaw by BMW.

    My serpentine belt broke in my e92 n54. I could not see any threads around the crank pulley. Instead they were spread around and in the power steering pulley.
    I am not skilled enough to tackle removing the oil pan to verify that everything is fine. I was going to trust that the belt did not go inside the crank because:
    1. I have no leak from the crank.
    2. I drove about 10 miles with the issue. Only because I saw a No battery issue and did not really realized/understand what was going on. But there were no other lights or alerts. Everything sounded good as usual.
    3. Mechanic asked between $2K to $4.5K
    Am I completely crazy on my judgement? What do you think :)

    • @FoulNews
      @FoulNews  3 роки тому

      I wouldn't take any chances. At a minimum, I'd suggest removing the crank pulley and inspecting the crank seal. If it's in-tact then you're probably just fine. If not, then the pan definitely needs to be pulled. As for the quote, that's pretty reasonable.

      Yup :) Except the turbos went out shortly after, but that's because of a very aggressive 23psi E85 and methanol tune lol. Stay tuned for single turbo conversion soon!

    Was the low oil pressure light on?

    • @FoulNews
      @FoulNews  4 роки тому +1

      I'm not entirely sure. The person driving it, said he didn't notice the light, but I'm assuming with the pickup being that clogged, there's no way the oil pressure was high enough to be healthy.
