Best band in the world right now. No other band has the amount of talent on stage as these guys. The way they feed off one another, transition, and jam so masterfully its as tho it was pre written and practiced beforehand rather then improv. Absolutely incredible muscians, each of them masters of their craft. They May cover songs written by the dead but they are no mere cover band trying to sound like the dead. They have modernized, injected new life, and energy into these songs like they were written post 2010 rather then the 60's 70's and 80's. They're a band beyond description like Jehovah favorite choir.
first time I saw these guys was at a festival. they came out for a soundcheck. tuned their instruments and went straight into a psychedelic sound check jam. teased st Stephen then put down their instruments. came back. played a 2.5 hour set and encored with st Stephen. would give these guys my money before dead and co any day of the week
Wow. I've never heard these guys before I'm pretty blown away. Its not often u see such a collection of virtuosos with such taste, originality, and fire. My new favorite band!
Carter Scarritt: long live this Dickey Betts composition. One of my absolute faves by Betts. I wish they had took tempo down a bit - and it will no doubt be cleaner with a little more rehearsal. (there were some stray notes on Hamilton, but Metzger had really done his homework) But cheers guys.
these cats are the shit! saw em a week ago they opened with Feel Like a Stranger/Chinacat/I Know You Rider/Jack Straw/St. Stephen for an hour, no break, St. Stephen had three jazzy jams in it, smoking!
I've been a Deadhead since the mid seventies, and I saw them many times too. Believe me, this is no copy, this is as real as it gets. They do play a lot of Dead tunes, but they would be just as funky if they played Frank Sinatra songs.
What JRAD does as a unit is consistently incredible. With John Mayer guesting they become way over the top. That being said, hope JM drops by to visit the Terrapin Family again; that Sugaree holds up as all-time favorite, and now that he has all those D&C shows under his belt might be even more amazing. What a great time to be a Dead Head!
Folks talk about "rock" being dead. Looking even at today's "alternative" offerings, not to mention radio-oriented "pop," I might easily agree, but the "jam" scene proves that "rock" is alive and well and even in demand. These guys...? So adventurous and willing to take some risk!!! Good, good stuff.
Those of us that NEED it now..... I have faith that those who seek shall find. WE always do. I only got my Friday night cap theatre tic. The word is out!
to anyone reading this: i cant tell you how much better these guys sound than dead and co., they are just astronomically better from ever instrument being played and the vocals also!
I did hear the Grateful Dead live many times. These guys are doing the best job of capturing the vibe of a GD show with out having the original members there.
I DO NOT THINK OF THIS AS A COVER BAND. THESE AREN'T GUYS IN A GARAGE IN JERSEY.THESE GUYS ARE GREAT MUSICIANS WHO PLAY GD SONGS.I SAW GD 200+ TIMES,JGB BOUT 40.WHAT I LIKE W/JRAD IS THEY TAKE THE TUNES AND ADD POWER.THE BASSIST IS DAVE FROM WEEN ,WHEN HE HAD WEEN DATE,OTEIL BURBRIDGE FROM ALLMANS FILLS IN ,DAMN W/FRIENDS LIKE THAT YA SLEEP EASY.
i'd like to see that but watching these dudes play these songs, it's pretty much a complete new tempo and arrangement half the time....but yeah, hear ya
That would somewhat condradict the whole premise don't ya think? Have you listened to these guys play or is this just a lame attempt at being a jerk? I'd bet my soul they could "Write their own tunes" but this is what they choose to do. Be nice.
These guys understand a fundamental truth....dead music is worth preserving. They are the new masters. Dead shows are special and these guys can give you that old feeling of excitement when you hear the tunes live. You can actually feel the love pouring outta these guys and their ode to this beautiful music. I'm grateful

I like them both. They scratch two completely different itches
@@kevinborchers3522 This is spot on. Idk why people always have to compare.
that middle section is so Grateful Dead it's not even funny
Love me some Joe Russo. Better than Syf
I guess if you missed the Grateful Dead, this is a way to hear the music live. No different than any other tribute band.

Jack Friel: what a lame (ignorant?) comment. Check out the bands/projects they also do - American Babies, Wolf, Ween, for example.
