Even More Modelling for Beginners - The third and final series of Modelling for Beginners.
This time I've decided to add more advanced aftermarket features, and will include more advanced build, paint and weathering techniques - as befitting the third in the series and leading on logically from where the Mustang left off.

    Awesome.
Looking fwd to following on with you thru this.
I’m always up for explanations of techniques, no matter how difficult it is & whether it’s a ‘for beginners’ or not. 👍👍

The great thing about beginners is the constant enthusiasm to learn and just take time to really try and be patient , comments about this is not for beginners is so moot anything is for us beginners it’s all part of the learning curve

Interesting! I have a 1/72 Airfix kit that has been on the Shelf of Shame for the better part of a year.

I built the day fighter version last year. It's a really nice kit. Looking forward to seeing you do your magic on it 👍

    Hiya Jen. Hope you're well.
Looking forward to a bit more modelling for beginners! Don't worry about the moaners, the way you describe and demonstrate everything, even a numpty like myself can follow and understand! 😂 I love watching your builds anyway, so can't wait! Won't be following along with my own build as I need to have a clear out and actually decide what I really want to build. I keep going on nostalgia trips buying old kits I built as a youngster and then realising I still had my rose tinted glasses on! 😎🙈 Anyhoo.... can't wait for the BP Defiant!
    Take care 😁

Hello Jen, I discovered your channel by chance. A happy coincidence. I subscribed immediately and found an Airfix AX05128A on the web and ordered it. I'm really looking forward to the project.

I'm probably not going to build this kit but I'm VERY VERY interested in your build. Thanks for continuing the series. If you are going to be doing the night fighter in black with the shark mouth I'm going to be VERY interesting in the weathering...I find appropriate weathering for a "black" finish is always a challenge.

I have the 1/48 Classic Airframes kit. Will that do? I'm just kidding. I am looking forward to this project and will need to get my hands on that book.

Great! Looking forward to the Cosford expedition and research. 👍
(I have a similar booklet about the Defiant from the Yellow Series from MMP Books.
I've just had a look: yours is better. 🙂)

I remember reading that the much derided was a flawed concept directly attributed to the RAF. Bolton designed to what the RAF wanted and they got exactly what they asked for. In fact without the turret, the Defiant was faster than the Hurricane showing how good Bolton was. The RAF just asked for the guns to be put in the wrong place! The weight of that turret, guns and the gunner far outweighed the eight machine guns that could have been placed in the wings.

For those wanting more info on the Defiant I really enjoyed the book "Defiant: The Untold Story of the Battle of Britain" by Robert Verkaik. The book advances the evidence for the idea that the Defiant was misused in the Battle of Britain and would have been far more effective if used in its intended role utilising previously worked out tactics. Excellent book available at all good libraries.

I look forward to watching this one Jen, how hard on the weathering will you go?

    • @JenesisDesignsandModelcraft

I plan for the weathering to be commensurate with the subject, using the reference photos

No, you didn't. 😄Wasn't available in 1/48 in 1962, and neither was the new tool 1/72. The 1960 tool 1/72 was, which is what we both built back then. A very different kit from today's retooled version. Remember that awful brittle black plastic Airfix moulded it in in the day?

@theblytonian3906 I meant the plane (a night fighter), not that particular kit.

I loved the Defiant. The 1/72 Airfix kit of the 1960s was awful. But I built it anyway...

Well Jen, obviously you should have called the series "Modelling For Beginners to More Advanced Techniques Using After Market Mods" or something equally snappy. Or how about "Modelling For Beginners Who Nevertheless Would Prefer The End Result To Not Look Like It Was Assembled And Painted By A Chimp"? Perhaps not algorithm friendly. Anyway, I'm very much looking forward to following the series and learning a lot, as I did with the previous series. Thanks 👍

From the Scalemates website, it seems that apart from new transfers this kit is the same as the Bolton Paul Defiant Mk1. If followers of the build are not concerned about the final painting and specific weathering, would the Mk1 kit be an option for them ? There seems to be more of them available on the second-hand market. Best wishes.

    • @JenesisDesignsandModelcraft
      @JenesisDesignsandModelcraft  12 днів тому

Yes! I forgot to point that out - the kit itself is identical and absolutely can be used as an alternative. Decals are out there too, if a black version is preferred.
