Thanks for the recommendation, just purchased a boxed mint AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/4 D SWM ED IF, after remembering your review, it being one of your favourite primes.Came with 77mm filter as well, just a pip over £400, all good. Have purchased a couple of your recommendations, Afs 18 - 35mm, 60mm AFD all as new all as fabulous as you claim them to be.
Well £300 cheapest on Ebay.I guess it is not the best value anymore.I am wondering if the old ED IF AF version gives the same image quality. If so i would buy the old AF metal body version of that lens.Mr. Ken do you think the image qualiti is the same? Thanks!!!
Any opinion on the 600mm f5.6 ED-IF? Was offered one that looks pretty bad on the outside and has some slight scratches on the front element for around $550. Rest should be okay internally. Good deal?
Hi Ken, I have previously used 300mm f/4 AF-S ED lens and currently undecided between 300mm f/2.8 AI-S and AF-S F4 versions for tripod mounted outdoor portraits. Does the f2.8 ai-s offer noticeably better image quality wide open in comparison to F4 to justify the manual focusing and weight?
Is the 300 F4 screw drive really that slow? For around $300 its really tempting. I was thinking of getting the nikon 80-200 f2.8 and a 300mm for less than $1000. Beginner wildlife lenses...
+Theoria Apophasis WELL I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD SEE THE DAY YOU REFERING SOMEONE TO REN KOCKWELLS SITE (oh that's right your a bit under the weather so you are forgiven) :-)
Ken, Of all the 300mm F2.8 AF-S models, which one in your estimation is the best value for the money? There are Nano, ED II, VR, VR II, etc. I like the cost of the 300mm F4 but think the 2.8 will produce better pictures due to the wider aperture. I use a Nikon D7100 to photograph Bald Eagles in flight. VR doesn't matter since I shoot at around 1/2000 sec shutter speed. Thanks for all the videos!
Hi ,,, question..... What lense can I buy ,, for family portrait and soccer team portraits I think it's called a group portrait thank you for all you help
Ok....upon your recommendation I grabbed the 300 F4.5 and it's everything you described it to be. Recently I snagged a Tokina 300 mm f4 AT-X ( FX ) and aside from the quirky auto focus where you have to make sure you don't grab the auto focus ring which turns while focusing it seems to be a very good 300 mm prime. The build quality is exceptional as well. Have you ever shot with one and if so what are your thoughts ? Not very many reviews on The Tube about it. Thanks in advance.
+Theoria Apophasis I was just thinking why won't you use a remote to stop recording? I think in almost all the videos you walk back to the camera at the end. Or is it your signature of signing off? Also I was thinking if you move the table ( "presentation?") little bit back towards the curtain and zoom in the frame, as such to get that table with the wheels on the left out? Colours are looking great recently but you look little over exposed. You are shinning a bit in the recent videos. It could just be my monitor calibration :D I am really nitpicking mood today, HUGS!! :D
+Logan Nguyen i dont have regards for buying a new one. How did you interpret that? Ive been loving my AF-S (ive had 2 of em) since i snagged on about 6 years ago. For $300 more, id rather have the 300mm 2.8 AIS which ive had 3 of , and currently have one. (next video) the 300 4.5 IF is still the best insane value, often $60 or so.
Theoria Apophasis interpretation by omission. You seemed indifferent to the f4 afs in past videos but i do remember you say it was much more expensive than the 4.5 and hence your recommendation was to the 4.5 instead. Both 4.5 and 4 are great in my opinion, but when you f4 has AF which is handy

300mm f/4D IF-ED will focus at around 5 feet. Excellent for butterflies, dragonflies.
Is the old metal body AF version of that lens has the same image quality with that AIS version? Thanks a lot!
Where do you find the 300 4.5 IF for $60? They dont seem to be too many available.

+w00xer ahhhhhh
Ken,
Is the best value 300mm an AI or AIS model ? And what is the difference?
+mr chism both are really the same price, but often the AI are in far worse shape
Where is the "I shoot silk sex & sugar" shirts.
The audio is strange. Maybe I just have to get used to it.
+Axel Becker im sick, thats why
:D Ok. Get well soon!
im crazy sick....even typing hurts
I think your audio is clipping a bit. Maybe lower the gain just a touch.
+George Pantazis true dat
If you're interested in selling the lens that has a spot of fungus let me know. Really need a good 300 mm for some work.

I remembered during your videos on the 300mm f4.5 ais, you had little praised for the 300mm f4 afs. Your stance has changed.
