As a cubs fan I’ve wanted Pete Alonso since the off season. I like Vlad too but I want the cubs to trade for Jansen or Kirk from the Blue Jays so getting one of them AND Vlad seems like it would be too difficult.

The Juan Soto to the padres deal is purely an issue with the padres organization. Soto had a 127 and 156 ops+ in his first half and second season respectively. Dude is just an animal.

M's fan: I'd be much more willing to listen to the second proposal. I've wanted Alonso since the Winter and I would def take him, but there's zero chance he would let the M's extend him, so the price has to be relatively light. I'd trade Montes in a package for Vladdy Jr though, with multiple years of control. I was in on Robert deal that you proposed last week but if the package is to be what was just rumored, I'm now out on him. My current ideal adds would be Randy from TB, a leverage arm and Vlad.

As a jays fan I would absolutely do the deal for vladdy. Busch has a high ceiling and although it would hurt to lose vlad he’s been too cold at times - I’d personally rather working both Pete crow-Armstrong and Busch so we can stop re-signing kk in centre but highly doubt the cubs would listen to it

Vladdy has become a single and doubles hitter. Home runs dropped off drastically the last couple of years. He’s good defensively at 1st or 3rd base. Bichette is a mystery. He was a hitting machine, but not this year? Springer is another mystery hitting 200 with virtually no home runs. Great defensively. At 25 million a year, the Jays are being punished with little return for their money.

Soto is good if you don’t have to depend on him or need him to hit when he needs to or your like fine with him batting .180 for half the season and only turning it on when you’ve pretty much missed the postseason already. For Gods sake we had the NL Cy Young last year and our hitting was so crap we didn’t make the wildcard when we only needed like 86 or 87 wins? Soto will be fine in the Bronx with a short porch. But Soto is no insane superstar a team can lean on. He’s no Acuna that’s a 5 star threat. He’s kinda a boob that’s slow and can’t field and is gonna lose tons of stats when the electronic strike zone comes into effect. Dude always looks for a walk and not a hit.

Mariners wont trade for alonso unless the price is really low and the mets cover a ton of salary. And for montes? Thats not happening lol alonso isnt what seattle needs.

We all keep waiting for Vlad to put up another 2021 season, but he's in his 6th full season and people need to realize that maybe what we've seen the other 5 years is just what he is--a sub .800 OPS guy. And not adding any value on defense.
And you're talking about being able to extend him for $300 Million??? If I'm the Cubs, I'm not dealing all that for 1.5 years of question marks. Not to mention the Cubs are under .500 right now. Realistically they should be a bit better team right now--as good as anyone in the mediocre NL Central, but that's not saying much, so why are you shoving all your chips in? Your window for being a legitimate playoff threat is probably 2026, when that horde of high minors talent (Horton/Shaw/Alcantara/Caissie/Triantos) gets established in the majors.
