    When I was a chef, sometimes the order tickets came in non-stop on Friday and Saturday nights. You could hear the printer just printing and printing, and you were afraid to even look to see how many new tickets were hanging from the machine. It's common for cooks to have nightmares about the printer. The only thing you could do was focus and keep working, there was no other way out. It was the best and hardest lesson.

    I still think one or two rolling shelves would be handy for when you get big hauls. It would give more vertical storage when processing and then you can shove them out of the way when not in use.

    • @tracygarrett3952

      Right on! A procedure for new hauls that doesn't include multiple handling of the same items. Every time you do something, ask yourself if there's a better way.

    Mel your outlook on reselling has changed so much. Currently I’m in a rehab facility with the 17th of January making it a full year of rehab and almost a 18 months since I had my wreck. You have become one of the probably one of the top 5 UA-camr’s that I really look forward to looking for and or waiting for a new video every day. Wish you could put out a video every day. I don’t know how much of it is the beautiful Dow nto earth is that’ll beautiful voice I love hearing or a combination of just a beautiful woman and voice.
    The amazing work you’ve accomplished since I started watching you (and I honestly don’t remember or know how I stumbled across your channel) has been an
    inspiration to me to get started selling again. The rehab facility admin has given
    Me permission to start my store back in my room. I don’t know how well it’s going to work.
    I’m going to start out with just my phone and Bluetooth printer I just purchased and trying to figure out the scales I want that doesn’t have any cables to it and just uses batteries. In fact I want have any lightning in the room except room light and a little sunlight.
    I always liked postcards and have a box of them about 35 years old in my possession but were old, old when I bought them and it’s a 1000 cards in it and I’ve purchased another couple of thousand books start I’m getting ready to start listing.
    I’m also going to list my die cast cars I had plus some I’ve been buying along with coins, paper money, and a little gold and silver bullion. You’re hard work getting organized has really inspired me to want to get started selling again and just have it smalls while I’m in here. That way I want have to stock but a few sizes of small boxes and they allegedly won’t look for cash bills shipped in an envelope. Any rate I’ve rambled to much (it’s 3:30 a.m.) for this time of the night and it’s probably day time there.
    Keep up the good work, great spirit you have, to influence us.
    Sending love and hopefully good vIbes your way for the influence to work harder. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

    Free items do have a cost to you. 1. To process and list what is your hourly rate 2. Storage 3. On going management of the listing. Free is Not Free. You have spent min 1 day that could be used to source high margin products. So your opportunity cost of processing low end items is whatever at min your day rate is plus over heads for day. So you will need to make back that amount to be break even.

I'm a vintage clothing and hard goods seller so not in your niche( I do love selling vintage books though) and I can totally appreciate the level of labor you put into your business cos it's similar with clothing! You really inspired me to not let those death piles pile up! Great job!! Your work space/warehouse looks amazing!

  • @BlissfulDee
    @BlissfulDee 10 місяців тому +4

    I like that you call it "reset to zero." And I could definitely see, when you get a haul (of any size) in, how exciting it can be to challenge oneself to get back to zero again, especially if someone is pretty competitive in general. Personally, I like gamifying tasks - in other words I make it a game and compete with myself to win the game. In this case, the goal of the game is to both start and end with everything reset to zero.
    This "reset to zero" method could work in so many situations, not just reselling! Cleaning house is one example. Purging clothes one doesn't wear anymore from the closet is another. Paying off bills... and so on. Thanks for sharing your process. It was inspiring to watch!
    Oh, and the heck with all those resellers who think that a death pile is necessary to succeed. That is so twisted.

You are doing so well after what must have been a tough year (and I know you're not done with it all yet, but you're making progress). I was one of those people who wondered about your relationship with Tom, but I didn't think it was any of my business. The video where you guys went on a road trip, and left a B&B together, gave me a pretty good guess at what was happening (since you didn't clarify if it was 1 room or 2 - LOL). So when you announced the relationship, I got a good laugh, and I was happy for you both. Good for you! You two seem to have a lot of fun together. Wishing you all the best!

    Thanks for your example of a large set of books taking things over. I also do books. I had a group of apx 7 thousand books. I am still trying to respond to it well ! I appreciate your example. Thanks for all the great focus you show me!

    You seem to take several pictures of each book. How many pictures do you take of each book?

    • @backfromburnout
      @backfromburnout  10 місяців тому +3

      Yes. Front, back, all the sides, the copyright page, the front page to show there is no handwriting of name written inside (or to show if there is!) and if it’s an illustrated book or has images (like a cookbook) I show some pictures inside. Some listings have 8 photos and some I use all 24 photos.

    For those humid days it might be a good idea to buy a dehumidifier so you don't lose stock to mould.

    It's great when you get stuff for free as long as you can get them sorted asap and not get everything back to way when you got overwhelmed..
    I wish people would donate stuff like that to me .... but stuff that I carry more of. It would make it easier not have to have the money to get what I need to have for stock each week. I don't get that happening very often ... usually people want money for everything Then again not having access to a vehicle to pick them up would make that harder too for me.

    • @backfromburnout
      @backfromburnout  10 місяців тому

      I was very lucky to get all of them given to me. There was some lovely books amongst her haul.

      @@backfromburnout It's always nice when you can get something like that. One thing you don't have to worry about it if getting too little for them too unless you sell them at a loss. I've donated stuff over time as well to the charity shops just to make room for other stuff and some of them around here have couples that give you a discount on stuff too .. which helps when you can get some stuff that your shop needs.
      For books that sell l for me the stuff that sells best are kids books, rare box sets, and certain fantasy or sci-fi titles like the Wheel of Time series, Dragonlance novels, Star Wars, and Dune. But I sell quite the variety of stuff over time on Ebay, Facebook Marketplace and Poshmark,
