I love that you can make money off of current books in Australia the way you can. Here in the US we have Amazon and other cheap book outlets and its just hard to make a go of it unless you go vintage. Fun trip to watch, thank you!
Okay, my son is a 21-year old and has an Asperger’s Autism disorder from the Philippines; he really sourcing some books and magazines on online platforms when he started before COVID sprung last March 2020, and as of the moment he was very a habit for him; he mainly sourced his items from thrift stores; used bookstores and free library and posted on such platforms (in Southeast Asia they have Lazada or Shopee) if they are on a very profitable and care for some people searching some specific things they buy
Another great video Mel! Thank you for always taking us on your adventures 🚙Your choice of background music is perfect. I've decided, everyone needs a Tom 😊He's a great thrifting buddy and a cutie pie. Since watching your interview video with Tech I've been trying to be more choosy with what I pick up. I see you're being more mindful on what you're picking up too, isn't that so hard lol. I want to pick everything. I know that your interview with Tech was so informational for alot of us and alot of us needed to hear those things. Oh my goodness, 21 thrift stores in one day 😳 I would be exhausted lol. I think a thrifting trip like that would be so fun! Ok, I'm off to go list my plethora of sweaters. Gotta get ready for cold season. Thanks for the great videos Mel. It's nice to see other women kicking butt in reselling💪
Great to see a new op shop video. Such self control you had. Less work more money. Great to see you having fun whilst working. Looking forward to your next video.
Was that a skippy dvd . My favourite TV program as a child. To be fair we didn’t have a lot of choice as there were only three channels and we had a black and white TV.
Another excellent vlog. Tom seems to be mellowing, he actually smiles a couple of times! We went on holiday to a place with 46 charity shops. Filled the car with stuff and our pet dragon was worried he may have to travel home on the roof. He suggested leaving my wife's mobility scooter behind! He can be ruthless sometimes can our Waverley!
First time watcher here and this was the next reel after I watched the warehouse video. Thought I would keep watching when Newcastle was mentioned. I was blown away when you guys got to The vacant block with the graffiti before store 16. We had a house fire on that block in 2019!! We rarely go into Newcastle now so this was really interesting to see!
Love how you show the scenery and interesting buildings. Most of us I’m sure are from all over the world so the food and locations are really enjoyable as much as the thrifting Great job sticking to your baseline, it can be so tempting to get off track!
Hi Mel, Im a Novacastrian and I loved this vid!! You even showed me a few op shops that I wasnt aware of up here. You need to do more of these 21 op shops in 1 day vids. I loved it!
Fish & Chips with a view. I remember visiting Fremantle Australia in the 1980s and having newspaper wrapped fish & chips on the waterfront. It was my first time trying Malt Viniger on fish & chips. Now it’s my norm.
@@backfromburnout I hear you. I watched the rest of the video and have to say the burger you got from Micky Ds, looked a lot better then the last one I got here. I also found it interesting that even though we call them Salvos and Vinnies, yours actually have that on the building and door signage.
Can you believe how your life has changed since you moved to that warehouse! Thank you for taking us along for the ride. You need to tell Thom to stay in his own lane and stick to selling CD’s and DVD’s and not get into books. That’s just wrong. And to quit running ahead of you like he’s in a race. Stay by your side and open the door for you and let you walk in first! Be a gentleman!!!
Thom’s been selling books a long time and he and I work together like a team with them. He has double the amount of book listings in his store then what’s in mine! There is plenty for both of us. He is also often in front of me because I hang back filming the fronts of the stores or talking to the camera etc. He is very much a gentleman, always carrying my heavy bags of books I buy, taking my post to post office, has my car seat warmer on waiting for me etc He’s a good one :)
Tom is your lightning rod, keeping Mel and Co. "whole!" Good to see you collaborating and so candid your pie~hole stuffing with de~lish..! Baked goods!😋👍🐿Keep up the collaborating and content!😊👍🐿
I imagine what you don't know about books isn't worth knowing 🙂 Your channel is awesome...and that is much due to your lovely personality imho. Btw...your husband is equipped with the patience of an angel. Regards from Sweden
Next time you come to the US, check out a set of book thrifts in Niantic CT called the Book Barn- thousands of books! Fun to watch you and Tom thrift together- funny to see that Salvation Army is Salvos and St. Vincent de Paul I’d Vinnies.
How to heal a bad birth is an absolute must for anyone with birth trauma. I used to attend the support group of the 2 authors and wow they are amazing women!
I did 21 op shops around Melbourne's Easter suburbs after watching your vlogg there. We hit 97 Garage Sales in a town Garage Sale day in Gippsland on Sunday - lucky we took 2 x cars, books are heavy
It's hit and miss at some while others get put onto our favourites list or a heart ❤️ on Google Maps with some notes as to why we liked that op shop. You could make a vlogg on how to save your favourite op shops onto Google Maps for future reference so as to save time by not going to the overpriced shops
Minute Mark 20: had to laugh watching you 2 enjoy your new found friendship/relationship as you looked for books at Vinnies, standing under the sign promoting the : Pre-loved Movement. Congrats!
That was a great trip - I have managed 11 charity shops in one day. Tech will be proud of you sticking to the higher profit books. I really want an Apple turnover now - good job it is night time and the local bakery is closed.
So I know my opinion doesn’t mean anything but I have to tell you how proud of you I am!!!!!!! I’m a kids clothing reseller so I know how it feels to be berried in a death pile and you are just doing wonderful!!!! 🏆
What a wonderful trip... Congrats on the shelving units...and...Horus Heresy !!! BINGO...I BOUGHT 36 Warhammer 40k books in New Condition, averaging $55.00 each I sell at least 1 per day. Rumors are that they want to make a Warhammer Movie...They get more Popular each day...Good Luck. Authors Dan Abnett & Graham Neill are two of best, all of the series are Great. Good Luck.
I’ve gotta ask , is Tom your partner? Or just your op shop partner? This is none of my business of course but I’m picking up a vibe here ❤. Love the vids , love your self control in not buying just because, we’ll done Mel. I’m going to try and follow your lead when I’m out op shopping 😅
I was thinking the same thing and saw the replies but no answer :( love your videos and wish there were more book you tubers always fun to watch when packing up orders
Awesome video Mel! Thom was smiling quite a bit, i am glad, cause he does have a lovely smile. Anyways, heavenly swifting day, 21?..wow! Glad you walked away from those low end typed books. I wouldn't get in that little boat either, lol 😮.. loved the lunch by the lake. With those sea gulls, its eat at your own risks! 😊 had to say awesome job on the editing and choice of music! blessings!
There's a Goodwill here in town. They had this bad habit of printing out listings of items for what they were being sold for on eBay. What they are LISTED for is not what someone is willing to pay for! No one bought those items. They were way overpriced. They are worth what the buyer is willing to pay and not a penny more.
Also, Ebay is all over the world not in your town. The chance of something selling at that price has to have right buyer. Anyway Same thing happened in my area in a shop- not a goodwill- I was like good luck. They are now closed.
Great to see you at Forestville BF again Mel, and welcome to my world at Hornsby & Asquith.... prices are insane. The only cheap thing at the Fusion one at Asquith is the free Bibles on the way out ;) .
Amazon Prime got the rights to Warhammer 40k. Theyre starting pre-production on movies and tv shows. Once they announce which series theyre doing the book prices might go up, be on the lookout
Quality merchandise sir We haven't done an opp shop run since the 97 Garage Sales in Trafalgar 😅 There's a tiny Vinnies minutes from the Carrum Downs Vinnies in Austin rd Seaford.
I know it's late to comment on 3 week old post but can you do more vids on pastries? Those "apple turnovers" looked more like apple tacos and im drooling. Lol
😊 thank you! How funny the bird flew into the restaurant and the bartender caught it! I'd be too scared to grab it, it was also biting his finger quite hard!
i find it so hard to resell in Australia so I stopped. People don't even want to buy a mid-designer label dress for $20 that was $200. But I hadn't tried books, if you know what youre looking for looks like it could be profitable.
well that was good run - interesting ambulances, not anything like ours - yes 20 , done that before and is what we gonna do in the UK? - notice no electronics or CRTs TVs , boo.. - yes mcdonalds is changing, we got a few cube ones like that now but no spare rooms that i know considering Pickup is now a major thing as the couriers sit on quarter of the tables and get in the way.
Get in that boat! Lol. I've never seen a Thermomix book in the wild to this day! 21 thrift shops in one day, that's heavy going! Thom's always racing off in front Lol 😂 Nice video, thanks!
I sell a lot of thermo books and some sell for higher than others but I’ve never seen this one before. No way I’m getting in that tiny boat! 🤣🤣🤣 Thank you Ian for being one of my longest ever subscribers and being part of this 30k ride with me. You’re a wonderful supporter of my channel and I thank you.
Yes, I feel like I now call them a mixture of thrift shops, charity shops and op shops! I never know what word will come out of my mouth when I'm talking about them ha ha ha
When Thom says 20 op shops, ya doing 20 op shops! 😆 I recently visited the Vinnies at Hornsby & the prices were high, but the disappointing thing is the op shops at Asquith used to be really good with very reasonable prices now the Lifeline store is more interested in being trendy & bespoke charging prices to match. I saw an average condition pair of Reeboks for $80, they have lots of stock for a reason. I won't be rushing back. 🙄
Great video Mel. I will have to remember the early morning start for the book fair next time. Congratulations on hitting 30K its been really great watching your UA-cam journey - you will have to do a live to celebrate. PS. You have trained your driver quite well 🤣🤣🤣 (sorry Thom )
Thanks so much! You have been following me a long time and I appreciate the support Dave! I probably am due for a live soon! I will work out when I might be able to do one :)
Congrats 🎉 on 30K subs! 😊 Happy for you and Thom! Keep up the great work 👍! We are liquidating our inventory and planning to move soon, so we want less stuff! Lol Also we want to increase our asp to $40 per item, which means combining similar items! Lotting up low asp items as well! I look forward to your videos 📹! We are everything sellers! Have a great week 👍! Joe Bee 🐝 from 🇨🇦 🍁 🇨🇦 Canada! Thom is your man! Lol 😅😊😊😊
hello Mel, Paul made me subscribe lol. WTG on 30k subs. I have watched his video's for awhile now, so I feel like I know you. Can't wait to watch yours. Best of luck always! From Oklahoma.
I live in Newcastle, would have been great to bump into you. There are quite a few more Op shops that are a bit better so next time you head this way let me know and I will give you a list.
Loved it! Hope you do more of the same thrifting videos. ❤The most op shops I’ve done in one day is about 10. Honestly, after that I just get a bit punch drunk and can’t really focus on the books anymore! It is really more fun if you have someone else to go with (another reseller would be even better).
It was a lot and we were on a time schedule to get back so we couldn't slow down. Thom was determined to hit his goal of 20 ha ha You're right, it's so much more fun to thrift with someone else. We really enjoy the little trips away. It feels like we get a reward and a break but also continue working at the same time. It's the best of both worlds!
One of the things that I have a hard time grasping is the huge difference in pricing from one op shop to another on books. There are store that charge $5.00 per book for junk and others $.50 cents each.
You have so many cool bookish places to choose from near you! I'm definitely finding the better book options in my local area are running short and I'm now having to figure out what's further afield (in addition to sourcing online). I've also found a relatively local monthly book fair so I'll be trying that next month too.
20 Thrift Stores in one day! Tom is my kind of Guy!!
He's a beat to thrift with, it's exhausting ha ha
You and Tom make such a great couple, im glad you have found love again 👍
Mel, love you videos!!!! Next video should be you and Tom dating and telling us the scoop.❤❤ 17:32 ❤
🤣🤣🤣
Finally!! A new video... I've started rewatching older videos cuz I love your content!!
So sorry I’ve had a lot going on in home life. I have a back log here waiting to edit! I’ll try for 3 this week!!
Aww... just from following you I knew that probably played into it... no worries ❤ Take care of yourself & your family first!
I love that you can make money off of current books in Australia the way you can. Here in the US we have Amazon and other cheap book outlets and its just hard to make a go of it unless you go vintage. Fun trip to watch, thank you!
The used market is super saturated..hard to turn a profit here, no doubt.
I love Mel and Thom adventures 🥰
Yay thank you!!
16:42 OMG I was screaming at the screen " GO IN THE BOAT" I want to see Tom in that boat!!!! :)
🤣🤣🤣

Thank you Joan! I enjoy the road trips. I feel like I get a mini holiday while also working :)
Hold the traffic.. people still buy cd’s?
Love the thrifting road trips you get up to. Thom walks into a store like he’s the terminator 😂
He’s on a mission to visit as many shops as we can in the time we have :) He’s a go getter.
Give me your vinyl, CDs and your motorcycle....
Was that a skippy dvd . My favourite TV program as a child. To be fair we didn’t have a lot of choice as there were only three channels and we had a black and white TV.
Yes skippy!!! I loved that when I was a kid! I was excited to find it 🤣
I'm so glad you picked up those warhammer books. They can go for some really good money especially the hardback ones.
Definitely! I knew straight away I wanted them but I was searching for higher pricing. Couldn’t believe my luck at $1 each.
This was so fun! Thanks for taking us on this adventure!!!
someone is eyeing your food!! you have helped tom's disposition ... he actually smiles now!! win win
He is getting used to me having the camera in his face all the time and he is very supportive of me filming everything we do. 🩷
34:36 On the shelf to the left there were some vintage horror paperbacks, among them Bad Brains by Kathe Koja, which goes for pretty big money.
Oh damn I missed those! I’ve sold them before also!
Oh yeah skippy the Bush kangaroo! I forgot about that! We had it in the UK
Poor Tom was just trying to have a Little Mermaid moment with that boat. 😂😂
Ba ha ha and I thought he wanted titanic lol

Thank you! A tough year that has also been filling with blessings.

I work a corporate job, but you've inspired me to consider doing something with my free time to earn a few extra dollars. Good content
Lunch on the water looked amazing. Always show the food.

Thank you for taking us along on your trip. Enjoyed it very much ! Can we see what you all picked up ?

Wow great video. I live in newy. So cool to see and Tom hitting my local OP Shops. Wish I seen you guys in the wild.

We have a thrift store here called Opportunity Village.
I like that name!
So proud, leaving empty handed when needed, and its not easy. Oh My fish and chips look really really good

It was a lot! We were going so fast between stores to fit it into the time we had.
Mel... Looking forward to more entertaining Back From Burnout content while I'm on the mend.😊👍🐿
More to come! I need a week to catch up just on editing now!
I know it's late to comment on 3 week old post but can you do more vids on pastries? Those "apple turnovers" looked more like apple tacos and im drooling. Lol
Ha ha. Nom nom! Stay tuned for more vlogs!
You did excellent staying on book choices. Lunch looked amazing, that bird 😂🤣😂. Beautiful place you're staying too.
😊 thank you! How funny the bird flew into the restaurant and the bartender caught it! I'd be too scared to grab it, it was also biting his finger quite hard!
Oh my goodness - you were at the Vinnies I go to, the op shops ...... all of them. Would have been a hoot to meet you there!
Thanks from VA!
Our pleasure!
A++++ edit here with audio. Perfect perfect perfect.
Thank you!
Weird seeing you in my locals but happy to see you walk out empty handed as well and that I wasn't passing over anything I shouldn't have been.

Wow I live in Belmont - good ole Squids Ink - great spot and fancy restaurant there - best food but pricey.
It was so delicious!!! The barman was so friendly also, it was great service and food!
also the op shops here are quite expensive - they seem to know the market well
21 thrift oh op shops what a trooper Mel!!!
It was a big day!
How do you do that, short of only spending 5 minutes at each shop?
29:43 that look :D
LOL
You make thrifting road trips look so fun! I need to find a road trip buddy here in Adelaide 🙂 As always, love your videos!

Salt and pepper calamari is my favourite dish too Mel ❤
My mouth was watering 😂 xx
So good! It's my absolute fave!!!
Love watching your videos Epic job not just buying
Trying to be much more selective
Ah you were in my neck of the woods! Central coast! Congrats on the 30k Mel! Come a long way.
Oh wow, beautiful area! We will be back again in the near future!
Thanks for the sub! Paul is awesome!
@@backfromburnout your welcome. Totally agree with ya!
Go for cheap .. 5 is over charging for used. 😊 You get the same value and selection 😊
@@keithwisdom1663 Of course
It is very entertaining watching you both op shop! Thanks as always for sharing your reseller journey with us 😊
That Apple Turnover looked delish 😋
You have so many cool bookish places to choose from near you! I'm definitely finding the better book options in my local area are running short and I'm now having to figure out what's further afield (in addition to sourcing online). I've also found a relatively local monthly book fair so I'll be trying that next month too.
