    Leave that man alone! He's doing what he's supposed to do. When he slips, he tries again. It took my dad 32 years to get 16 years of sobriety. He could make a year ok but would slip. My dad fought a hard battle and died a sober man. Give Tyson his privacy and prayers.

      It’s only now we are seeing the research come out on what childhood trauma does to your life as an adult - you still have to take adult responsibility for your actions but... I terms of just your mood, your basic default setting minute to minute, hour to hour, day to day... the cards are permanently stacked against you... and sometimes you get tired of holding your demons back and give in... because chaos and drama are actually what feels normal to you and ... peace and quiet feels unsettling.

      Gotta agree man.
      Cus D'Amato clearly saw a very talented and intelligent man. A lot of people think Tyson is not all that smart, but his ring intelligence in his prime was just as impressive as his power and speed.
      Cus also clearly saw a kid that wanted someone just to tell him he was doing a good job, was a good kid and could be great....
      Unfortunately, when D'Amato died.....Tyson was still a very young kid who had yet to learn how to be an adult. At 19 years old, he latched onto people he thought were good for him....who did nothing but take advantage of him.
      I do agree that Tyson was also very responsible for his own self destructive behavior....but it almost always feels that came about because no one was there to simply say "Mike, stop it and be smart." He was surrounded by enablers his whole life.....because their enabling him allowed them to suck from his wealth.
      Fuck Don King.
      Tyson is a national treasure....and I am incredibly excited that I was just at an age that I can remember the heavy weight boxing division actually being excellent.......Everyone knew who Mike Tyson, George Foreman, Evander Holyfield were. They were house hold names.....and now.........Can the average person even name one heavy weight boxer, let alone the current and or recent champion?
      I'd bet not even 10% of Americans could name a current heavy weight boxer.....except a very few fights that crop up every 3 or 4 years that are really worth watching and paying the steep HBO price(and no, the McGregor Mayweather fight does not count because an amateur boxer fighting one of the best boxers of all time is not worth watching....it was over-hyped)....boxing is slowly dying and, as Mike Tyson so recently said........The heavy weight division needs to get exciting again for Americans to be interested in watching the sport.

  • @fabianmuschalik3736
    @fabianmuschalik3736 10 років тому +183

    Tyson, You're a champ. Not because of boxing, but because despite all the shit thrown at you, you've turned around to become MORE honest, MORE genuine, MORE vulnerable, and MORE giving. You're a better person than ever before. You're an inspiration. People can see you're a good person at heart. I don't think anyone doubts that now. And that's why you're a champ. Anyone else would have given up in your shoes a long time ago. But you've only improved yourself, and that is very very respectable.
    I would take your advice and listen to your wisdom any day. Thank you for sharing your life and thoughts with us honestly, and please don't stop doing so. You'll never stop improving yourself, and that's all that matters. Battles won and lost don't matter, but fighting to improve yourself, always, that matters.

    This guy is all heart, watching him fight was something to see. I don't know if we'll ever see a man throw blows like he did. Now he's just so honest and humble, he puts out his most vulnerable stuff on the table so that other people can see and hopefully learn from it. The worlds a tough place to navigate for a person as open as he is, and he bears the scars of that. We've all done wrong in life, it takes a big man to admit it, especially the way he does on TV for everyone to see. Respect!

    Mike's not going to die from alcoholism. Like most people in recovery, he's both, yes, conflicted about his ability to drink/use, but also tormented by the dogma that his use will kill him, even if he's curbed it. Because he's so honest, he takes it seriously. I agree, he probably will use again. But he must let go of this expectation on himself that's expected in recovery. If he uses, he uses. I"ve personally seen people dying from alcoholism. MIke doesn't appear to be one of them.

    Ya I was just watching all his fights on DVD and I have to say it kills me to see how normal and positive he was the first five years of his career up until he won the title and then went to prison for three years. He came out and was acting insane and lashing out for no reason or maybe because he went to jail in the first place. Regardless if he never slacked off on training and didn't party and sleep around like he did he woulda went undefeated. Still one of the best of all time no doubt glad to see he's at least getting active cuz we all know was completely broke.

    • @marqcarnita4045
      @marqcarnita4045 9 років тому +2

      Shows how a fucked up child hood can have it's effect on a person. Also shows how fucked the prison system is. Technically prison was designed to take people of society, teach them a lesson so that they will be better off when released back in society. Instead it makes people worse. I feel bad for mike. Lot's of people hate him, but they don't understand how hard it is for him. He didn't have a childhood like most people, and he's missing lots of important fundamentals that help mold a healthy and non violent human being. I'm happy he's realizing all of this now, and that he learned EMPATHY and the value of forgiveness, he's also man enough to admit that he's wrong. Most people may not understand of appreciate it, but that's a BIG and HUGE achievement for someone who came from the background that Tyson did.

    Just how weak he is emotionally shows the vulnerability once a individual disarms themselves of that alcohol/drug shield. .He doesn't deserve praise..praise is sometimes a fuel for arrogance..but he deserves encouragement for his honesty.

    • @Truthlight403
      @Truthlight403 10 років тому +6

      You obviously don't know a thing about addiction. Six days for someone who gets plastered every single day of their life is a great accomplishment for them. And btw it's a press conference so of course they're going to clap wtf are they going to do stand there in silence? At least he admitted is faults and is man enough to tell the world because he's sick of lying to everyone who thinks he healthy. Get a clue. Hating is bad your health as is drinkin

    • @cdee12120
      @cdee12120 10 років тому +4

      You took what I said out of context... I said he deserves encouragement...I didn't mean the people in the audience shouldn't applaud his honesty. What I meant and did not word correctly..is that it's too soon in his recovery to think he is over this lifelong addiction. I have seen it so many times from people with addictions ...they last a month..everyone around them ..especially the people who live with them ...get excited at their progress.. and they drop off back into addiction..convincing themselves they can stop anytime again..I hope Mike Tyson truly makes it through. This is a lifelong battle.. I lived with an alcoholic.. I seen it from the flip side.. .Everything is amplified... Their minds work differently..many times looking at everything from the first person perspective. Praise can turn to arrogance with an alcoholic mind. .. The humility is the sobriety. But for a person who hates to feel vulnerable.. the demon is always right around the corner.

    • @Truthlight403

      Vulnerability equates to strength, it takes balls to be vulnerable. Being hardened is weak, there is nothing staunch about being a hardened person too afraid to feel.

    • @cdee12120
      @cdee12120 7 років тому

      Vulnerability many times often occurs from events that were out of your control. Mike Tyson's sobriety came after the death of his four year old. The strength is building yourself back up from that vulnerability.

    This man has endured one of the hardest journeys as a person that I've ever seen. Just imagine growing up in Brownsville BK NY with a speech impediment as a kid?? In the 80's it had the worst crime rate in the city. He went through hell getting f'd with and picked on everyday. All that torture and trama growing up is what made him the machine of a man he became. I've had somewhat of a hard childhood but when I look at what Mikes been through I think twice about what hard is. We love you Mike!!
