  • This week I went for a little ride around the neighbourhood.
Join me as I attempt to break the record for a 12 hour cycling time trial, and give a bit of insight into every element of the process, from the preparations the day before and my nutrition plan through to how I experienced the ride itself.
Safe to say I won't be doing that again in a hurry.
    Same time next year...?

36 gels, jeez, that's the most impressive stomach endurance I've heard of and most likely just as out of reach effort as 12 hours @25 mph +. I remember my last ironman race in lanza looking at the bikes before hand and one bike had gels taped like domino's all along the top tube, and it were a gate of a frame too.

@@joeskipper91 so pleased you got the record after last years record that wasn't officially recognised. I[ve just started doing 5 hour rides on my road bike at 20 mph + but my stomach is distressed after 4 hours. Is is just practice makes perfect ? I'm only having about 6 water based gels for this, and 3 bottles of electrolyte on the bike. My route is Stone to Swarkestone and back....not too far from you I think.

k c thanks mate, I’ve heard you can train your gut but I think with me I’m just really good at taking on a lot of carbs. I have seen a few nutritionists and they recommend goods which are good for your gut like kefir, kombucha, kimchi. I eat a lot of those foods and maybe that helps as well and also try a sports nutrition company that works for you.

Well done Joe. There is absolutely no way 140 pound Ryan Collins beat Joe Skipper riding without PEDs or drafting the World Ultra Cycling van with his parents at the wheel, doing 331 miles in 12 hours averaging 27.5mph. He has refused to release any power numbers. Something is sketchy with those Guiness World Records Ryan was just credited with having taken them from legend Christopher Strasser.
